Eventide

The location was ideal for what we wanted with easy access to places such as Wembury, with great views.

However there were several issues with the property. It needs an external light above the outside door as the passage if very dark at night. We could not find an oven glove so it needs one, we could not get the induction hob to work at all, despite owning one our selves, following the instructions in the welcome pack and pressing every button possible. The beds were very very hard, however we did get used to them after several nights. Its near a church which chimes on the hour all night, nothing however that the property can change, so just for info. The welcome pack is very limited in information about the property so we think this could be improved, eg info on the cooker and microwave, internet info, where the wood for the fire is stored (in a shed by the outside door under a bucket). The side passage could do with a clean and refurb to make it more welcoming. Oh and keep your head down - very low door ways (it is an old cottage).

After two days, or halfway through our stay, the electricity, including the heating, was turned off in the middle of the night.

We had to go online and top up the electricity with a credit card. At the time, there were cold weather warnings (Amber alert) issued in England. We were only using two laptops, a TV, and the heating, so no other major electrical devices were in use.

Although we did have a nice week at eventide it was adequate for our stay there were a few things which would’ve made the stay more enjoyable.

Overall it was clean and the bathroom was nice. The cooking facilities were very difficult to understand with very limited instructions to anything. In fact we gave up with oven and hob after just about understanding the microwave! The tv was quite an issue as only internet viewing unless you down loaded apps! Made watching very difficult. And on a wet February week we felt some tv was needed. The hot water also In the kitchen and bathroom sink stopped working half way through week too. And the beds had to be the hardest I’ve ever slept on! But maybe some people like them like that. Definitely if yiu are tall or not very mobile you will find this place challenging. And the key to the front door was bent too. This place could be so much nicer with just a bit more thought to some small things.

We loved the cottage, it was cosy and very quiet and well placed for what we wanted to do.

However the mattress was so firm (and we like a firm mattress) we did not sleep well and ached when we got up. Also the hot water did not work and we had to boil the kettle to wash up. Thankfully this did not affect the shower.
