  • "Lovely cottage but had awful beds."

My husband and I were unable to sleep together in the main bed, it was very narrow (smaller than a queen) and our feet hung off the end of the bed. They should not be pitching the property as having a double-bed.

  • "The cottage is very well furnished with the exception of the bed in the main bedroom which was narrower than a normal double bed."

However the living area was very cramped and it was necessary to move furniture for comfort. The toilet brush was broken and cobwebs on the bedroom ceiling gave doubts about the cleaning regime, also despite being, quite rightly, asked to clear up after our dog there wsa a large amount of goose droppings in the parking area and by the cottages. While this can be expected in fields on a farm by holiday cottages and parking it is not acceptable. As there is to mobile phone signal there it was not good that there was no on-site contact in case of emergency, leaving a mobile number was not much use. All in all we were quite disappointed with Martin Cottage where we had been looking forwerd to staying.

  • "The cottage was lovely, as was the location."

There wer a couple of small issues and one larger one. When we entered the cottage the carpets did noy look like they had been hoovered, also we gave our dog a drink of water some of which spilled on the kitchen/living area floor. When we wiped it up the tissue was filthy so the floor had clearly not been washed. The main issue though was the size of the main bed. It was the smallest double we have ever seen, as such we didn't sleep well all week and neither my wife or myself are large people. Even the pillows stuck out over the bedside tables. I think either one bedside table or smaller ones would be much better with a bigger bed. This was the only thing that would stop us returning

  • "A lovely place to stay, with plenty to do."

Having the private beach was a real bonus as no need to get in the car if planning a day at the beach. Our grandson enjoyed the play area and had lots of fun together with children from the other cottages. The cottage was as described, and yes small but adequate for us and our grandson. We struggled to sleep well due to the small double bed which I had read about in previous reviews but chose to ignore hoping this issue may have been addressed. The cottage is nicely decorated and fairly well equipped, the towels were lovely and soft and although small , the bed was comfy. Our dog was also well catered for, treats, poo bags and even a towel. The animals were very friendly ,well cared for and enjoyed being fed on a regular basis (food available from the shared utility room). We didn’t have a problem with the wi-fi or mobile signal as was previously mentioned in reviews. Staff very friendly and seldom seen so not intrusive in any way. The location is excellent, plenty of walking directly from the farm and a very short drive to Ilfracombe for supplies or day out etc. Also walking distance to local attractions and eateries. All in all a fabulous place to stay and highly recommend.

We appreciated the fresh eggs that were waiting for us from the hens! The cottage is set in a very peaceful location, with easy access to many interesting places to visit. The alpacas and private beach were one of the highlights of our holiday and we enjoyed feeding the alpacas every morning.

Had something for everyone. Lovely private beach with great walks and views. Property had everything we needed for a self catering holiday. Lots around to do from castles, amazing beaches with Colville a must but you do need to be careful with the path down and back up to the beach. Woolacombe beach is something very special with amazing sand and great for surfacing or just wave jumping. Lovely holiday and would recommend to everyone.

The weather was very mixed so we spent a lot of time just chilling out. The setting is absolutely superb and everything is maintained immaculately. Alison (host) was extremely friendly and helpful. The walks around the property were gorgeous and the private beach a dream. We spent a lot of time there with our black Lab. We will definitely go back

We all settled in their twice for an evening in and like Wren it was perfect. The bedrooms by all accounts comfortable and the bathroom spacious and well laid out. Another five stars thank you! Well done. We would certainly stay again - sooner we hope rather than later. The only concern we had was the speed of vehicles on the road as we turned out onto the road from Ilfracombe to Combe Martin - some fast traffic there! That is no reflection on Widmouth Farm. One just needs to take time and care!!

Everything was beautifully presented and exactly as described. The garden and dog excercise field were a real bonus as we had our two small dogs with us. Even the weather was lovely for our stay. Unfortunately we had to leave early as my husband was unwell but we hope to be able to book and return some time in the future. Thank you to everyone.

  • "We stayed in Martin Cottage for four nights."

Although small, it had everything we needed for the two of us and our dog and was spotlessly clean. The owners had kindly left some treats for the dog and a towel in case his paws were muddy and some lovely fresh eggs for us from the chickens there. The location was stunning with breathtaking views, a very short walk down to the small private cove or beautiful coastal walks in either direction. The alpacas were delightful and we fed them several times. There’s a small field to exercise dogs which was perfect for our boy first thing in the morning for him to have a quick run. I would have no hesitation in recommending this place for a relaxing break.

  • "States that there was internet access, which there was not."

The single bed had a very soft mattress. The tap for the shower was so tight that it was very difficult to turn on. When I inquired about the lack of the internet the lady that I spoke to was quite terse and difficult.

'Thank you for your review, I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay in Martin Cottage. Your review mentions that there was no internet access during your stay. There is normally no problems with our wifi and I did apologise to you regarding the wifi. However the fault was out of our hands as during your stay a pole came down in the near village and BT were putting it up but due to strong winds it took them longer than usual. You also mentioned that when you enquired about the Wifi the lady you spoke to was terse and difficult. Her response was short due to you calling nearly every day with an unneccesary query. I understand that during your stay you may have a few questions, however repeatedly calling the main house for no emergency at a late hour was not appropriate. You called us on one occasion because you could not turn the shower on, yet when we popped over it was easy to turn on and was done in seconds. You then persistently called another time to ask for the utility room key which was behind the front door hanging on a hook, this would have been found if looked for. You called again to ask for us to tell you times and post codes for a train time table and a list of resturants which normal self catering holidays would be done by the guests themselves. The last call to us was you saying you were given a splinter by our climbing frame and for us to remove it. Whilst I understand guests sometimes have queries during their stay, however we do not expect numerous phone calls daily and to be spoken to in a negative manner when trying to help. Property Owner

The setting was lovely with all the animals having free roam of the land too was so nice to see. For the 3 of us and a dog Martin Cottage was just perfect, everything well presented and clean. The single room door sticks from the inside but when mentioned to a staff member they were willing to address it straight away if needed. Staff would walk past regularly and great our fur baby numerous times which she just loved. The cottages are set hire local to Hele Bay, we didn’t manage to do the costal walk with an 8 week old but would definitely do it when we return. The private beach is a little rocky but is beautiful and very easy to get too, wish we had spent more time there. Overall lovely stay and looking forward to booking up again in the future.

My car is large range rover. It was not a real problem as we were allowed to park in the visitors spaces. However, if we had known in advance could have enquired if there were alternative cottages at the same place, there were some vacant ones whilst we were there so that would have been easier as their parking would have been ideal. Would not have put us off booking as Devon is Devon, hills and all as I found out in Porlock - blimey what a hill. Otherwise great holiday both for the area and accommodation
