  • "Lovely apartment."

Well equipped. Great view. Excellent location for shops and restaurants.

  • "We had a fantastic week in this lovely apartment helped by the fabulous weather!"

Great property in a central location with everything on the doorstep. Beautiful views that we never got tired of looking at. The flat was very clean and extremely well equipped, the only thing I couldn't find was a hairdryer (looked in all the obvious places). If we had to state a negative comment the bathroom and toilet were dated. Saying that, we would still return in the future.

Glad you enjoyed your stay. Toilet fixture is older but terribly difficult to update because of the plumbing configuration. Hairdryer is now included. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful property lovely Location."

Only negative parking was a nightmare never any spaces available in carpark. Next time we book will definitely look for a property with parking.

Delighted that you liked the flat. Yes, parking is difficult in Salcombe. The parking permit provided does allow free parking 24/7 in the nearby locations, but does not guarantee a space. In high season, especially at weekends, spaces are hard to find in the early afternoons. However when arriving any time before 11am and after 4pm spaces are always available. Timing is everything! The flat is great, especially now with the washing machine available. We’ve two small children and the flat and the location are perfect - ideal for heading out and also for getting them back quickly for a power nap! We’ll definitely be back.

I can imagine that in the height of the season it could be a bit noisy at night as people leave restaurants etc but that is the only negative.

  • "We would suggest changing the description from the current "comfortable for families"."

    - considerable street noise every night to around midnight and sometimes later. Street noise starts up again from 7am. - heavy duvets, something that has been pointed out over years looking at the visitors book. Thin curtains in the main bedroom. - lounge is over packed with furniture, was annoying with 4 of us. The views from the lounge are great and the kitchen is well stock albeit no w/machine or d/washer access. We have stayed in lots of holiday rentals and the advisory notes in this flat are quite extensive vs. what we have seen before - might be worth scaling these back slightly as notes on the wall saying to close the lounge door when you go to bed seemed unnecessary.

“Thank you for your comments. Apologies for all the notices posted but almost all of these were mandated by the fire risk inspector. Yes, flat is compact and in the very centre of town, however we are pleased to say that there is now a washing machine at the property. We do hope you have a lovely holiday and enjoyed all Salcombe has to offer. Property Owner

Shower needs rescaling. High Power goes hot & cold. Double Mattress Smaller than Bed. No Outside Space.

Your comments are much appreciated. We have checked the shower and it is operating normally. Extra hot water is available 24/7 using the booster button. There is now a new King size bed and mattress. Unfortunately due to the central location of the property there is no outside. We do hope that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back to the area in the near future. Property Owner

  • "Really easy to book, check in and check out."

Location is fantastic. It is right in the middle of the town, close to all amenities, and the view is just breathtaking. The decor in the flat is a bit dated but it actually makes it really charming. Really well stocked in terms of crockery, cutlery, pots, pans etc. My only criticism is that the drying rack in the bathroom wasn’t working so it took a bit longer to dry the towels but other than that we had a fabulous time.

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at 8b Fore Street. Our apologies that there was a problem with the towel rail and we have made arrangements for this ti be fixed at the next available opportunity. We hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

  • "I enjoyed early mornings of meditation and prayer by the living room window with the beautiful view of the sea and the hills."

My family enjoyed hanging out there altogether in the evenings after strolling a beach or creek. And we were blessed with a cloudless view of the sunrise through that lovely window. The kitchen window has lovely view too and washing dishes wasn’t so bad a chore for those couple of days :D The only main things we were surprised by were the two flights of stairs we had to lug our luggage up on arriving, and then down on departing, (we hadn’t realised that would be the case before we arrived) and the low ceiling on the upper leg (there wasn’t any warnings posted there but one of us who was tall nearly got hit in the face a couple of times so we learnt to be super careful there).

  • "The view was phenomenal - our boys (2 & 5) spent hours looking out the window at the boats!"

The apartment was well equipped and a perfect size for our family, location was great. Biggest challenge though is the noise. As the weather was so hot we had to have the windows open and with late night revellers and nonstop sea gulls it was very hard to get any reasonable sleep. An additional fan would probably be a good idea, or air conditioning units!!

  • "We mostly enjoyed our 4 night stay in Salcombe but normally stay over in East Portlemouth or further out from the Salcombe centre."

So staying in the centre this time was an eye opener! 8b Fore St is right in the centre of things above the pastie shop and Roly's fudge shop! The front door is between the two shops with a steady climb up the staircase to the second floor. It is dated in decor although there are lovely colourful modern prints on the walls. The kitchen cooker is electric one I haven't seen in years! No washing machine/dishwasher not that that bothered us. The below work top fridge has only a small freezer space. Easy to live with for a few days but because of the position of the flat in the middle of the town it was VERY noisy in the late evening and the early hours with rabbles of youngsters shouting and yelling to one another just below us while waiting for taxis to take them away at 2 in the morning! Our advice keep windows shut and use white noise like a fan or the radio and wax ear plugs if you want to get ANY sleep! Luckily we brought both. The sitting/dining room was comfortable though small (a squeeze for 4) with picture windows & stunnings views at anytime of the day over the estuary and the East Portlemouth hillside. In future we would stay away from what is the busiest part of the town! Otherwise it was lovely to be back in Salcombe.

  • "Lovely view over the water in the morning and very easy for bread run in the morning."

Surprised to find the washing machine locked up. Property didn’t come with a parking permit. Delivery vans start around 1am so if you have your windows open it’s very loud but this is due to great location to everything. Not able to wash your clothes was a pain.

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay. From 2020, 8b Fore Street will be providing a complimentary parking permit for the Creek car park. The washing machine is not advertised on the website and I’m afraid is not in use. The location of the property is premium but can mean that you get some noise disruption from local businesses. We hope you enjoyed your stay in Salcombe and that we can welcome you back soon. Property Owner

Also I made a call to 01548 843773 expecting to speak to someone with a knowledge of the Salcombe area.Unfortunately I was speaking to someone who was 200 miles away although she did try to help.Later on I called back with the no,s of two cottages we were interested in there was a long wait before anyone answered The lady I spoke to offered to ring me back later to give us time to consider and to save me hanging on the phone, she was very helpful. It would have been a lot easier if I had been able to speak to someone from the Salcombe office as they know all the properties. There was a problem with the kettle which was sorted out by the Salcombe team straight away. Kind regards Colin Hitchcroft

Thank you for your comments. I’m sorry that you experienced a wait when calling through, although I’m glad that they were able to help you with your holiday. Our Apologies for problems with the kettle but glad to see it was replaced immediately. We hope you enjoyed your holiday and hope to welcome you back soon. Property Owner

  • "We were attracted by the property's location and it didn't disappoint."

Right on the waterfront with wonderful estuary views and the sun coming through the window as you wake up in the morning. Bakery for breakfast bread is a couple of doors down, butchers selling fresh pasties is underneath you, and coffee shops, pubs and shops are all within a minute's walk. Perfect for us. Inside, the property is clean, tidy and comfortable. On the down side, car parking is at the long stay car park a pleasant 10 min walk away which wasn't a problem for us but maybe for some. Being in the middle of town it was a little noisy in the morning with morning deliveries (after 7am) and with people enjoying themselves in the evening, but it kind of adds to the character of the property and of the town.

Thanks so much for your generous comments on your stay at 8B Fore St. Just to let you know that starting in 2020 guests will be provided with a complimentary parking pass for the Creek public car park, but it’s still a ten minute walk! Property Owner

  • "What a stunning place to spend a week in Salcombe."

We had a little bit of difficulty finding our key as we arrived out of hours and we couldn't work out where the box was for us to put the code in and get our key. A little frustrating but maybe I didn't ask for enough details. The apartment was perfect for us and with an amazing view. Only two things that could have made it even better for us - we struggled for hot water and didn't manage to ever work out how to have enough for a bath in the evening for the boys and the washing machine was locked behind a cupboard door which was also a shame as with kids it is always handy to have a washing machine. Apart from those small points we couldn't fault the cleanliness, location and comfort of the apartment.

Thank you for your valuable feedback about 8b Fore Street. We endeavour to ensure late arrivals have all the necessary information to make late key collection as easy as possible and were sorry to hear that this was not the case on this occasion. Following the comments you left in the guest book, a plumber was arranged and rectified an issue with the boiler. We were disappointed that we were not made aware of the issue during your stay as we most certainly could have remedied this for you during your holiday. We also note your comments regarding the washing machine. Despite these issues, it sounds like 8b Fore Street suited your party well, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Salcombe in the near future. Property Owner

    Mr D MarshOct 2017

  • "We were happy with our choice from the moment we walked into the apartment."

It was clean, well presented and had a homely feel to it. No frills, but everything we needed, which was exactly what we wanted. The location is about as central as you can get, there's a butcher, a grocer and a bakery within a few paces of the door and the internet connection was good. There's always a negative, and in this case it was the noise from the street. It goes hand in hand with being so central, so we can't complain. The bedroom windows open onto the street (but thankfully 2 floors above). The street gets a high footfall until well after midnight, then at 5AM the delivery vehicles start arriving to service the nearby shops etc. Closing the window wasn't really an option, as we needed the ventilation. The compromise in the end was to close the bedroom window, open other windows in the flat and leave the bedroom door open. The only other minor niggle was that the duvet was heavy and too hot for the summer. The positives far outweighed the negatives, and we would definitely come back.
