  • "The property is always lovely to visit and stay."

I would like to mention the outside front door handle is about to come off it will only take a visitor to pull on it hard and it will break.

Light bulb out in the family bathroom and light bulb out in the ensuite, did mention it for maintenance but not a problem that needed attending while we were there - just for future.

  • "Wonderful property and amazing views."

We have been holidaying in Salcombe for 40 years and this is the best property we have stayed in . The outside areas are beautifully maintained and immaculate . The key safe is a great addition in being able to leave the keys on departure day instead of having to drop them into the office in Salcombe . We were fully aware of the position so knew the walk up to the apartment is steep and wouldn’t recommend staying there lf you have mobility issues . the car park height restriction would also be a problem .We use the ferry from south sands to town and you can get the bud from salcombe to kings bridge , Dartmouth and Totnes if you don’t want to drive . The biggest issue currently is the extensive building work taking place all around the area so the constant noise of drilling and lorries from 8am to 5pm spoils what used to be a peaceful haven of relaxation but this is not within your control however it maybe something that as a business that relies on tourism you could raise with the south hams council Regarding building restrictions being imposed during the holiday season .

  • "Very satisfied with all aspects!"

Two very minor constructive suggestions for making it even better still. - Have clearer instructions in the apartment on waste disposal and any recycling. - in the promotional literature, explain to potential guests (who may have health or driving limitations) that access to the property and South Sands location generally is via quite steep, and narrow lanes with tight bends. The last point though is also a great strength as the views from the apartment were stunning and its isolated location was quiet and peaceful; thanks to all for a wonderful holiday, and we have rebooked for next year.

We had a great week - 10 out of 10 for holiday places thank you so much! the one thing that I was really disappointed about and I am not sure this is anything to do with the owner as they had left full instructions was the lack of recycling rubbish due to it being a commercial property? I think we should do better

Ten times, but not counting. A few improvements this time, new radiators not that we needed them this time, mugs, glasses, towels and a couple of new pictures. All I can say, if you want an amazing holiday don’t book this place because I don’t want you booking it when I want it.

We like to have the same period every year in the middle of May and with Coast & Country Cottages could reserve the period in question at the end of our holiday until November when a deposit was required. There was a special deal last year to reserve with £25 but now it's 30% deposit which is a lot of money (£500-ish) to tie up for a whole year in advance being handed over to Sykes. Not very happy about this though we do wish to go back again next May but fear we may miss out on the dates we'd like.

  • "We were so glad to return to the beautiful Bolthead having stayed here a couple of times & will never be disappointed with the stunning location & views."

Wonderful time. Some constructive criticism; the property despite being lovely is generally tired looking & could do with a refresh. The shelf in shower is still loose, (mentioned in previous review), towels/linen gone past there best, some mugs tired & marked, dining table surface tacky despite cleaning, dimmer switches need attention as the lights pulsate when on full. Some crockery was found to be dirty but this may be crockery going back in cupboards from dishwasher without checking. Do cleaners check crockery that has been put away from previous guests as part of their processes? Having balcony seating that is more relaxing/comfortable could be considered to appreciate the spectacular view Bolthead offers for longer! The location & views will always draw us to re book but apartment in current condition less so. It just needs a little bit of love & attention! Andrew & Ruth (May 2022)

  • "Upon arrival the property smelt damp and musty so we opened all the windows and both balcony doors."

When we took out 2 cups to make a cup of tea both had lipstick residue, as did several glasses and the cutlery had food debris stuck to it, so before we could even think about unpacking, the entire cutlery and crockery we were to use was washed in very hot soapy water. I then cleaned a cupboard into which our cleaned crockery was placed and also cleaned the cutlery drawer, which had food debris, hairs and dust removed before the cleaned cutlery was replaced! All 3 coffee tables in the lounge area were dusty and had dirty cup marks on the glass top, the throw on the dirty sofa was also really dirty, but better than the sofa! All floors were swept and hoovered as they felt gritty under foot. We also swept and hoovered the accumulated sand from the balcony, which had not been touched for months! We also wiped every surface, door handle and cupboard door wtih anti-bax and sprayed dettol anti-bax spray in every room and on all soft furnishings. Long dark brown/black hairs were found in the ensuite shower and on the floor. In the main bathroom dirty mop water was left, unflushed in the toilet and this may have been the cause of the damp musty smell On Monday 9th August, we tried to contact the offices of Coast and Country Cottages in Salcombe, from where we had collected the keys on at 3pm on Saturday 7th August, but no-one answered the phone. When we dropped the keys off shortly after 10am on Friday 13th August the issues we had experienced were pointed out and we have since sent a very detailed email. We eagerly await a response from both Sykes Cottages and Coast and Country Cottages.

With little regard for anyone else . We have over the years been used to some building work at southsands so always use to some disruption but this was way beyond that. In the future some information from you On matters like this would be helpful .

  • "Lovely accommodation, unbelievable view."

Couple negative points the bed in master bedroom was like laying on bricks, I like a firm mattress but that was way to firm. Also no hot water past early morning and had to keep overriding the timer to have hot water. Not ideal when we have a young child that needs a bath before bed. Small things that could be improved but for the main lovely peaceful accommodation and a great holiday.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. We were really pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay here number 4. The views the apartment has to offer are stunning. We were sorry you didn’t find the bed comfortable, we have passed this on to the owners however, we do recognise that this is a matter of personal choice and therefore may not be suitable for every person. We very much look forward to welcoming you back soon. Coast and Country Cottages oh behalf of, Property Owner

As for the accommodation location.....Perfect for my requirements and the views are amazing. As for the accommodation itself I would say it’s In need of some TLC. New iron definitely, new towels these have seen better days, shelf in the en-suite needs fixing, that’s been like that since my first stay. The lighting in the main room needs attention regarding the dimmer switch. This is the reason for losing one point on the facilities. Apart from that....I still love it and will book again.

Lounge, dining and kitchen area was exceptional. Bed rooms were small and the bed was not brilliant. We took our own mattress topper so made it more comfortable. However, overall the apartment was great. We decided that we would not use the car whilst we were there and therefore enjoyed the walking. The only places to eat around the property was the South Sands Hotel which was excellent, lunch at OverBecks was very good and the Winking Prawn at North Beach which was disappointing . Would we go again? Yes definitely.

  • "Beautiful apartment with glorious views."

Our second visit. Two things make it less than perfect. 1. The cleaning is not thorough. It’s okay, but not brilliant. 2. I find the bed in the main bedroom a bit small, but I think it is a king sized and I am used to a super-king. For these two reasons I will look for an alternative accommodation in the area for next year. If you find my two comments ‘a bit harsh’, then you will adore the apartment. All the comments in the visitors’ book are very positive with many returning visitors. The roads to South Sands are very narrow and winding, but once you have arrived you can leave the car in the car park and walk everywhere. Brilliant coastal walks and National Trust Overbecks right on the doorstep. For top up groceries catch the ferry (or walk) to Salcombe. The nearest supermarket is a car drive away so you may need to bring your main groceries with you or call in at the supermarket on the way to the apartment.

The apartment was beautifully presented and clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bolt Head and would book go again. It would be even better if there was somewhere for wet beach gear (particularly wet suits) and as there is no mobile reception wifi would have been helpful. Also for a place that is so well appointed in every other way and marketed as a "high end" rental, it's a shame the sheets were poly cotton and that the sofa covers which were damaged hadn't been replaced.
