A lovely peaceful setting, small shop and pub nearby.

Very well maintained, clean and modern. Just a nice place to be away from home. Tranquil and able to de-stress even with two children. All the amenities you could need. An excellent break for us all.

Our 2nd visit and 2nd Christmas and Barley House, part of a group of 9 in 3 cottages.

The cottages are very well appointed, really well positioned for days out in East Devon and in delightful grounds and we loved our village walks. Barley House comfortably sleeps 6, we had 4 which is more comfortable downstairs as that’s smaller than the bedroom space but also comfortably hosted Christmas dinner for 9. Hosts are fabulous, communication is great and they are very accommodating. Highly recommended for a fabulous staycation, we all had an amazing family Christmas, thank you Diana & Paul, you have a fantastic property. We will be back.

Our 4th stay at Barley House, it is a superbly appointed place to stay, the cottage and grounds are beautiful and there is lots to see & do in the local area.

My children always enjoy exploring the grounds at Talaton House.

Right from walking in the door on arrival, we knew our stay would be very relaxing and enjoyable.

The property has everything needed to make it special. The location is so peaceful and a good base to explore from. The linen and towels were all lovely with the added bonus of dressing gowns. We were sad to leave.

We had a fantastic holiday at Barley House, beautiful surroundings, very comfortable and clean accommodation, we couldn't have wished for better.

The pub was within walking distance. We visited Exeter, Sidmouth, Paignton, Brixham. Barley House is a great base from which to explore surrounding area. Hope to be back there in the future.

A beautiful property.

Really had the "wow" factor when we first arrived. Diana and Paul were extremely helpful and accommodating and seemed happy to be contacted with questions, which they went above and beyond to answer. For a family with diverse accessibility needs, this couldn't have gone better.

A brilliant stay.

Diana is so helpful, considerate and accommodating. Everything was great, the only way to improve our stay would be for the individual gardens at the property to be dog secure, as ours had a habit of making full use of the beautiful grounds!

excellent organisation and welcome arrangements.

Diana and Paul were very friendly and provided an immediate response to any technical difficulties like the toaster. They also gave useful advice expecially with regard to dog walking and charging the electric car. We loved having access to rhe spacious lawns to exercise our lively dogs. We found the cottage very clean and well equipped. The only criticism was that the upstairs bedrooms were quite warm on the hot days but there are so many places to visit locally that we only used them for sleeping! We loved the peace of the beautiful parkland and we hope to return.

We stayed at Barley House as part of a group of 9 in 3 of the cottages, this one was the largest.

Its a fabulous cottage, very comfortable and well equipped and we hosted 9 for for dinner most nights (inc Christmas) very comfortably. The grounds are lovely and its nice for a quick dog walk around the village which is on the doorstep. Well positioned for trips to the coast in around 30 mins, golf course, posh farm shop and garden centre. Diana, the host was super helpful but unobtrusive...thank you for a fabulous trip, will will indeed return.

Our 3rd stay at Talaton House & our 2nd at Barley House which we really enjoyed.

Such a comfortable place to stay, lots to do locally and the cottage is very well appointed. The grounds are very well maintained. We will definitely return.

Loved the cottage and its facilities.

Our little grandson who lives in London particularly enjoyed the little walks in the grounds and the little wooded area. Very welcoming hosts too.

Lots to do on your doorstep with Sidmouth, Exeter and Lyme Regis all within striking distance. The hosts were welcoming, helpful but unobtrusive and generally lovely. The property was outstanding with all you could want in a holiday cottage. The local village pub is also a must with a good pub menu and a welcoming landlady, Maria. I have no trouble at all recommending this property and would stay there again without hesitation. Thank you Diana and Paul for making our stay so enjoyable.

Perfect property for our family and dog.

Impossible to fault.

A fabulous cottage which suited our family needs which ranges from an 86 year old grandmother down to a 7 month old puppy.

Well placed for days out and everyone was catered for. Diana was very welcoming and helpful, for which we would like to thank her.

Barley house was just perfect in every way.

Fantastic location. Beautifully renovated and a lot of thought gone it. The BBQ was a real treat and surprise. Diana and Paul very welcoming and friendly. Had a wonderful weeks stay, met some lovely like minded couples. Will definitely go back.

Had a fabulous holiday, the accommodation could not get any better. Immaculate, excellent facilities, kitchen fully equipped, (air-con unit was amazing). Additional thoughtful extras, such as hand soaps, shower gels, tissues are provided. On arrival a bottle of Prosecco and dog treats were waiting for us, (what a lovely touch). The grounds are stunning and so peaceful. The owners are friendly and made us feel very welcome. It is definitely 5+ star.

We had a great stay enjoying the lovely Devon scenery and making use of recommendations from our hosts.

We had a lovely time whilst at Talaton House (Barley Cottage).

We visited Lyme Regis, Exeter Cathedral and walked along the Quayside. The Donkey Sanctuary was a lovely day out and they make you feel very welcome. Visited Beer, Seatin and Sidmouth. The Talaton Inn and Greyhound were nice to eat in. The cottage was clean and facilities very good would definitely recommend.

Great location and the best hosts you could find.

My family of 5 with 2 dogs have just returned from a wonderful week at Barley House.

The hosts were amazing the welcome gifts for us and our dogs was a lovely touch. Very clean, extremely good quality bedding and towels. Great open plan lounge kitchen and dining area. Very modern bathrooms with lovely under floor heating and plenty of hot water. Highly recommend and hope that we will return.

Fabulous property in the little village of Talaton.

The property had everything we could have wished for. Super spotless and beds super comfy. Loved the place and so pleased we took my 90 year old Mum as the room abs wet room were ideal. Strongly recommend a quiet place in a typical Devon village.

Lovely property - easily as attractive and comfortable as on the website (usually you prepare yourself for there having been some creative photography but not here) and the surrounding grounds of the estate were peaceful and added a sense of seclusion.

Beautifully furnished, luxury accomodation - it was immaculate & cannot believe doggies are allowed! Chose this cottage as loved what i saw on the website and so that our daughter, partner & their dog could join us for a few days. Lovely that we were able to meet the owner Diana, she met us when we arrived and was so warm and welcoming. She really cares about making sure everything is ok for her guests. The views and grounds are absolutely stunning too - it was a memorable holiday - thank you! Chantelle & Nick

It was warm, well equipped and welcoming. We did not bring our dog but had we this would have been perfect for him.

This was a superb property with excellent facilities.

The kitchen is a fully stocked with all the utensils you'll need and had a Nespresso pod machine. The beds were comfortable and bathrooms modern. 10/10.

Barley House was spotlessly clean with every facility you could need. Lovely hosts and location.

This is a fabulous place to stay, I can’t recommend it highly enough.

My family and I stayed in Barley House for a week after Christmas and over new years eve.

The hosts had decorated the property with a Christmas tree, which was a lovely welcome for our party. We selected the property for the spacious open plan living accommodation for our party of five and our labrador. There was plenty of room for the dog cage and we were able to walk our dog around the grounds of the property. There were local walks listed in the accommodation guide in the property which was very helpful. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of utensils, pans and ovenware. However, if any future guests did not want to cook, there were plenty of places to eat near by. And a pub within a stones throw. The three bedrooms where spacious; the first floor having their own bathrooms, and the ground floor having a neighbouring bathroom. The underfloor heating was lovely on your feet in the bathrooms. As were the waterfall showers, fluffy towels, and cotton bedding. Overall the property was comfortable, warm, homely and spacious. We would certainly return and recommend Barley House to our friends and family.

Our family of 6 plus 1 infant and 1 dog enjoyed a truly wonderful Christmas (2019) get together at Barley House, Talaton. The hosts were absolutely fantastic and on arrival we found a super welcoming hamper, which was both personalised and thoughtful in that it contained some gluten free items for my daughter and a small Xmas gift for my Grandson. We loved the beautiful location which was only a short drive from the coast. The accommodation was very clean, warm and comfortable. We wish we could have stayed longer and definitely hope to revisit one day.

People were so warm and friendly, fabulous meal at the Five Bells.

The owners have equipped the house to a very high standard, kitchen equipment superb and extra touches like welcome note and flowers, along with shower gel and hand-wash provided if wanted was a lovely touch.

accommodation was excellent, could not fault it and would recommend it to anyone going to Devon. Either looking to just relax or as a base to explore Devon.

The accomodation was absolutely lovely, the hostess was very welcoming, friendly and helpful.

The gardens were lovely and ideal for walking our dog in a safe environment. The village setting was very pleasant with friendly people in the local pub and the community shop, which was just outside the accomodation. All in all a brilliant place!

We had a lovely stay over the long Easter weekend.

The home was very well equipped, making a great first impression on the kids, as did the unexpected welcome pack including an Easter activity and biscuits for the dog. They loved having their own ensuites in the rooms upstairs and we enjoyed the privacy of the downstairs bedroom with its own wetroom in the room next door. Our dog Comet was very happy and settled in well, with the wooden and tiled floors making it very easy to keep clean after walks. It felt very private, with the hosts available when needed and unobtrusive when not - the perfect balance. There was no noise from others or outside. Noise does travel within the Barley home itself, but this was welcome as it made it easy for us to listen out for the kids upstairs. A very good find and one I'm sure we'll return to, especially as there is room in the other homes for other relatives when they come to visit too.

The cottage was stunning.

Refurbished throughout with new bathrooms and kitchen. Comfortable, stylish with everything you need. We enjoyed the bbq outside while the children loved playing in the huge grounds of the main house. A magical place we will be coming back.

Wow, what a lovely cottage, set in idyllic contryside suroundings.

The cottage was equipped with everything you might need from dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. Large lounge with plenty of seating and a well equipped kitchen. We had 7 days of pure r & r.

Barley House is modern, spacious, quiet, clean and comfortable.

It is set in lovely grounds close to the owners house. The owners are very friendly, helpful and keen to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. Dogs are made welcome which is great as the standard of other cottages is not always so good when dogs are allowed. Talaton village is small with one shop and a pub which serves typical pub food-generous portions and very friendly staff. There are plenty of other good pubs serving food nearby. It’s a 15-20 mins drive to nice beaches in Sidmouth, Branscombe and Exmouth amongst others. Bikes can be hired at Darts Farm to cycle along the Exe estuary. Our second stay here and hopefully not our last.

Beautiful house, impeccably designed and decorated, very comfy bed and gorgeous bedding, fantastic grounds for the children to play in, lovely hosts, great pub and shop one minute’s walk away, short drive to lovely villages and beaches.
