  • "What an idyllic retreat!"

Some lovely cakes were left to start our holiday off. The cottage was exactly as described. The surroundings were quiet and peaceful. You could sit out the front and admire the Tors in the distance or laze in the private back garden, listening to birds or watching the antics in the small pond. Entry to the moors was via a gate in the back and you could walk up to Kings Tor and Foggintor Quarry. We even heard and saw Cuckoos in the morning. Thank you Sally and Monty for such a wonderful retreat.

Thank you both for having us in Buster Barn, especially for the various provisions, flowers and delicious cakes. The cottage was clean, very well equipped and a good size. Perfect for relaxing - a true home from home. We did many walks directly from the cottage and loved watching the birds feeding in the garden. We had clear skies on a few nights and just going out the door to the garden and looking up at the night sky and seeing so many stars was a brilliant experience. Thanks again for what was a memorable holiday.

Excellent facilities for our dog, particularly the freedom for her to walk and run safely in fields/grassland attached to the property. The barn provides everything necessary for a comfortable holiday and although it was cold upon arrival, quickly warmed up and stayed warm and cosy throughout our stay (in a rainy cold February) Warm welcome to us and our dog from our hosts which we much appreciated, thank you highly recommend.

It is literally in the middle of nowhere we had to stop and check the sat nav beware there are lanes so narrow you have to reverse for oncoming traffic which is precarious at times there is no mobile phone signal either and no internet x

Thank you for your feedback. Our pictures on the website show the rural location of the property. We also advise of the narrow, winding moorland lanes within our website text. • "Buster Barn is an idyllic holiday retreat, set in a wonderfully beautiful and peaceful valley."

The barn is very comfortable and well equipped with extensive gardens to relax in, as well as a nice barbeque area. All the outdoor areas are securely enclosed which is perfect for the dogs! We were definitely lucky with the weather during our stay and in fact it was far too hot to go out walking during the day, but this was not a problem as there are so many walks that can be done from the 'front door' that we easily managed some long walks across the moors in the evenings. There are also some very pretty paths and quiet lanes through the wooded valleys which were cooler! We did not have to drive anywhere at all during our stay such is the range of routes available, which was a huge plus point for us. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming but unobtrusive and we look forward to returning in future years.

It was mine and my partners first UK break and Buster Barn was the peaceful get away we needed. Sally greeted us when we arrived and made us feel so welcome, her cakes were also incredible and such a lovely touch. The property has everything you could need for a break and the garden has incredible views over the surrounding countrysides. The garden is completely enclosed so it was amazing for our border collie who came along with us, and as well as this Sally allowed for us to have access to the field behind the property which meant on the raining days we could still exercise the dog. The property was so quiet all of the time and our break could not have been more relaxing. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to get away for a break in a beautiful area, there are amazing views and walks to enjoy without having to stray far.

The owners were very welcoming and provided many thoughtful additional extras. Maps and books on the locality were especially useful during our stay. The owner was very friendly. We had a wonderful peaceful relaxing break. The only downside was the very narrow lanes to get there but don’t let that put you off as it is well worth it once you get there. Also to walk anywhere directly from the cottage is uphill which my husband couldn’t do due to his bad knee so we had to drive to get onto the moor to walk the dog but this wasn’t really any great inconvenience. This place is on the edge of the moor with excellent walks from the doorstep but it’s easy to get to Two Bridges, Dartmeet and Postbridge where many good walks start. One of the nicest Dartmoor towns is Tavistock with good shops, cafes and a gallery. The hosts are very welcoming and the accommodation is spacious, well equipped, warm and comfortable. Internet in very rural locations can be a problem but the dedicated service into the barn achieves enough speed to stream a movie or FaceTime friends. Phone signal is mostly non-existent but picks up within 1km of the Barn; it’s a pleasure to be almost offline anyway. BUT there is a house phone in the Barn which you can use for incoming calls.

Visiting; Tavistock is a lovely centre with interesting shops, deli, wholefood, provisions, gallery and pannier market - oh, and the amazing cheese shop. Okehampton, we were expecting to have flourished since the bypass - not at all, it has a museum and Waitrose! Totnes is right across the moor but always worth a visit as is Bovey Tracy with the Devon Guild of craftsmen in a very imposing mill building - lots of good work there for any budget. And if you visit Belstone, have lunch at the Tors Inn and then go and see David Gundry in his amazing pottery just down the lane. The owners, Sally and Monty live across the yard and are lovely people. The accommodation is very well appointed and spaxious for a 2 person place. It’s very private and has amazing views across to.
