Location is great for walks and also down to the Mouth , it's a stunning walk but worth it when you see the views of the coastline. Need I say more when it's a stones throw to the pub!. Chapel cottage has everything, nicely furnished and the beds are so comfy and 2 bathrooms helps with children. Thanks and hope to visit again. Andrew , Thame Oxon...

  • "Overall, lovely cottage."

The cottage was very quaint and very well-equipped. It was very charming. Great locations next to a good pub/restaurant and some nice if not steep walks to the sea within easy reach. There were only two of us on our stay so had flexibility on what bedrooms to use in a four-bedroom cottage. Our first night was spent in the larger bedroom, however, we both found the mattress fairly poor so switched to a smaller bedroom with a better mattress. Not an issue for us (as used the main bathroom), but worth pointing out that the shower screen in the ensuite was stuck so could not use the shower.

Storage in each compact bedroom is well done with hooks, shelves and hanging space. The garden and parking space is a great bonus, particularly during the lovely weather. Nesting birds in the porch were a delight to watch. The location is peaceful and an ideal spot for seeing much of Devon and north Cornwall.

  • "Chapel Cottage is absolutely delightful."

We had a fantastic family Christmas and there was plenty of space for us all to relax without getting on top of each other. Extremely well equipped kitchen and the decor in the cottage was tasteful and beautiful. The large utility room was a godsend for storage and for boots and coats. The new owners at the pub are extremely friendly and we had a lovely meal there on Christmas Eve. Thank you very much for the Christmas trees and decorations and also the goodies which were kindly left for us (even a tin of doggie treats). Cannot fault this cottage in any way and would thoroughly recommend it.

Thank you so much for for your lovely review! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Chapel cottage. It means a great deal to us that you have taken the time to do so. Wishing you and your family a very Happy New yeara very Property Owner

Back garden catches the morning sunshine, lovely for breakfast. Good facilities for eight active guests, washing and drying machines came in very handy. And lounge seated all of us. If over 6ft, watch out for the downstairs light fittings, you'll find them every time you're not paying attention.

  • "Lovely cottage, spacious inside and well equipped."

The garden is small as described, but perfect for our dog to stretch her legs when we weren’t out exploring the countryside/ coastline together. My only recommendation for the kitchen would be a big lidded dish for casserole/stew for the size of the party (sleeps 8), or a slow cooker - autumn/winter comfort food, easy to prepare and leave to cook, whilst you are out. The house was clean and fresh and a lovely cream tea awaited us on arrival. Thank you, we will be back!

  • "Lovely spacious cottage."

5 Adults shared this and we had entry of space. Rural as expected. Didn't expect it to be so close to the pub that every morning between 5.30 and 6 you were woken by the comings and goings of the bin men and trades people. The garden is very very small the picture taken with a wide angle lens is very misleading. Cottage far to hot with Rayburn on all the time made it unpleasant at night even with all the windows open. Thank goodness it wasn't the height of summer! Lack of cleaning products and minimal larder bits, oil, herbs etc doesn't help when you have a 20 minute drive to a supermarket. Check in not till 5pm is rather late don't blame it on Covid 3pm would have been much better. All round they could have done better.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback, we take this very seriously. We are close to a good pub and receive many positive comments about this in our guest book. The collection that you refer to usually takes place once a week. We have spoken to the landlord, and he tells us that he is changing the rubbish collection company and so this issue is being addressed. As the property is a converted chapel, there is not a lot of land. We do state that the garden is small in the property description and most of our guests are very happy with it. We're very pleased with our housekeeper, who ensures that there are supplies of anti-bacterial products, wipes, cloths, dishwasher tablets etc. We also leave salt, pepper, tea, coffee, sugar etc as well as a welcome cream tea. The Rayburn is left on the lowest setting and heats the towel rails, all other radiators have been individually switched off for the summer. For the moment, the check-in time must remain at 5pm as we really do need the extra time to deep clean the property. We're pleased to hear that you had plenty of space and hope that you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

Two bathrooms upstairs though. Old Smithy Pub did good food but it became booked up very quickly so two days notice is a must in this era of staycation. Nearest large supermarket was 8 miles away in Kilkhampton, Coop or 11miles in Bideford, Morrisons

  • "Gorgeous cosy cottage - loved our stay."

As two families staying, the second double bedroom was tiny which is fine as it’s a lovely cottage. But the mattress on a normal size double needs to be really firm (I could feel the springs) if it’s only a double these days... my only constructive feedback. Otherwise a perfect stay. The garden is small but perfectly formed - beautiful and great location for all the beaches around Bude, Welcombe Mouth and of course The Old Smithy Inn where we ate twice!

Thank you for your lovely positive review and We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Chapel cottage. • "We had a great week and the cottage was lovely, we had a courtesy visit on arrival and a cream tea which was yummy."

The Cottage was really well equipped and had all we needed, lots of useful info about the surrounding areas and things to do. The garden was a little disappointing. The toilet seat in one bathroom was broken and we had hoped a replacement was going to me made as the lady did mention having to source a new one but alas it never arrived, was a bit trickier with only one fully useable toilet between 6. We were surprised at the comings and goings from the pub which did make for some disturbed nights with traffic and footfall right beneath the bedroom window, we ended up having to close the windows which did make the bedroom quite warm and stuffy so perhaps access to some fans might with help with this issue..... just a thought. There was also an issue with maggots in one of the bins which my husband dealt with, we guessed maybe the previous tennants had failed to bag the refuse properly and put the bins out for collection, there was a massive amount of flies around generally. These issue are by no means complaints just constructive feedback, we had a lovely week in a lovely cottage. Unfortunately there was a couple of breakages, 2 glasses and 2 bowls, I sent a text to the contact person informing of this. Best wishes Rachel and Alan Done

The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped with some daily essentials to make cooking easier, plus some other nice touches like the cream tea and scones on arrival! The rooms were more than big enough for the four of us and the secure garden to the rear was an added bonus. The location was fantastic and we explored the area following some of the suggested walks recommended by previous guests. The walk down to Welcombe Mouth beach was roughly two miles down some seriously undulating country lanes but the views when you get there made it all worth while. The cottage was fairly close to the A39 making it easy to explore the surrounding area of Devon and Cornwall. Finally, the Old Smithy pub was a real gem and being literally next door meant we enjoyed a number of superb meals there whilst sat in the beer garden.

Head down the steps to the porch into a hall where you can leave your boots and coats, and then through to the big country-style kitchen with its lovely traditional beams, Rayburn and dining area.

The sitting room is another cosy room where you can snuggle up beside the wood burning stove.

Head on up to your four bedrooms where you will sleep peacefully after exploring the lovely unspoiled scenery all around.

You have a sunny little bench to sit out and enjoy a morning coffee in your little enclosed garden.
