  • "When booking a holiday, we were looking for somewhere private, relaxing, with pretty scenery, that was close to things to do/places to see - somewhere that felt a world away from the busy city lives that we’re used to."

    We found that the Under Oak Pod fitted the brief perfectly - we had the best time. The Pod itself is situated at the bottom of a track - further down from the main camping site. This made it feel even more private, which was nice. Inside, the Pod was spotless. The bed was comfy, the shower was hot, and everything was available that we needed for self-catering. Thought has gone into the matching decor inside - the grey/yellow and sheep theme is a nice touch. On sheep, they make nice neighbours and we liked watching them coming up to the fence on sunny evenings. There was herd of white cattle too, and they formed part of the scenic countryside view that we enjoyed looking out on. We admired the view and the summer evenings from the hot tub, which worked perfectly. The temperature was spot on and it was easy to use. A hot tub was a prerequisite for us when choosing a place to stay, and the Under Oak’s was great. One thing that struck us was just how peaceful it all was. We were blessed with good weather, and sitting outside the Pod in the sun with a morning coffee was just total relaxation. Also outside, we had dinners, cooked on a barbecue down by the fire-pit area, and, on one still evening, we even played a board game. It was perfect. Location wise, the Under Oak Pod is great too. It is in driving distance of pretty much anywhere that you’d like to go in the area for a day-trip - in our case, Torquay, Paignton, Salcombe, and of course Totnes - which is a worthwhile fifteen minute journey for one-off gift and book shops, fudge, and a cheese shop. We found the owners to be extremely welcoming and hospitable. The hard work that they have put into the Under Oak Pod is shown by just how wonderful it is. We would recommend it to anyone looking for a romantic, relaxing getaway, with the opportunity to explore or to just unwind within Devon’s beautiful countryside.

Under Oak Pod is located on a working farm and enjoying views of the beautiful South Hams countryside, offering a pet-friendly stay, ideal for couples or a small family wanting to experience rural Devon.

Positioned between Dartmoor and the popular market town of Totnes there is lots to explore locally, or just relax and enjoy the hot tub and enjoy your surroundings.

Arrive at the farm and see the livestock grazing happily before parking at your pod, pass the electric hot tub as you walk up the sloped path to your deck where you have a dining area ideal for enjoying a meal or a drink as the sun goes down.

There is a further firepit area for guests to enjoy with additional seating.

Enter the pod from the decking and explore your home from home, with a sofa bed (suitable for a child under 12) and a dining area leading to a kitchen alongside a king-size bed made with natural fibres, which is well positioned so that you can enjoy the view of the oak tree from your bed, and, clouds permitting a starry night sky.

Chefs will be pleased to find a fridge with freezer section, a 2 ring induction hob and a microwave combi oven grill located in the kitchen.

Refresh yourself in the shower room with its vanity and WC.

Dog owners will find the adjacent enclosed dog exercise paddock useful, we ask that pets are kept on the lead when outside the paddock.

Should you wish to take a break from cooking the Turtley Corn Mill is a popular spot just 2.5 miles from the farm, or explore the restaurants and eateries in Totnes and the surrounding villages.

For a great day out nearby, hike up to the Ugborough Beacon and take in plenty of extraordinary views, explore the classical Totnes Castle, or get the adrenaline pumping on some rides at the Woodlands Family Theme Park.

In Paignton, spend a splendid day on the beach feeling the sand in between your toes, have a stroll along the pretty pier, which has crazy golf on offer or get up close and personal with some stunning creatures at the Paignton Zoo Environmental Park.

Slightly further afield in Plymouth, be sure to check out the UK's largest aquarium, craft your own drink at the Plymouth Gin Distillery or see a live show at Theatre Royal Plymouth.

With Dartmoor on your doorstep and the popular South Hams beaches within reach explore to your hearts content at Under Oak Pod.

The market town of Totnes is at the head of the estuary of the River Dart, in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its historic Fore Street is lined with interesting shops, tea rooms, restaurants and a weekly Elizabethan market, offering local produce and unique finds. During the festive period, the streets of Totnes come alive with its annual Christmas market. From Totnes, set off on walking routes with stunning backdrops along the Dart Valley Trail, or explore the historic Totnes Castle.
