  • "We had an extremely enjoyable stay, and the only problem we had was the location of the property on a very busy road."

It made general access and unloading and loading the car very difficult and quite dangerous at times.

My husband and I and our two spaniels had a wonderful break. Lilac cottage didn’t disappoint very comfortable bed and very well equipped. The weather was very kind , great walks and all the pubs and restaurants were to a very high standard. So looking forward to visiting again soon.

Great pub/restaurants nearby. Nice walk across the fields to the beach. We had a fantastic few days here with our 2 dogs. Thank you.

  • "Lilac cottage is beautifully furnished & well equipped."

We understood & appreciated the 5pm check in, to allow for a "deep clean" however the level of cleanliness was certainly not a "deep clean!" There were cobwebs everywhere, stains on the living room rug, thick layers of dust on the TV and dust/crumbs on the kitchen floor. We were also not made aware of the shared access, to the adjoining cottage, making us unable to leave the door open for our dogs to play in the garden for fear that our neighbours may come through & leave the main gate open! We also feel that the cottage description should highlight how busy the main road is, we could not have the front windows open because of the noise & getting out of the gate with 2 dogs, directly onto a very busy main road was horrendous! I notice this was addressed in the "notes" but it really needs to be made much clearer.

The cleanliness of Lilac Cottage is of utmost importance to us. We have an exceptional housekeeper who cares for the cottage, so we are very surprised to hear it didn’t meet expectations. There was no evidence of the any stains on the rug or dust on inspection following the clean on your departure. There is also no shared access to the garden or front gate at Lilac Cottage, the gate connecting Lilac and Bramble is only for our personal use or when large groups are renting both cottages. We will make this clearer for guests. Many thanks. Property Owner

  • "Lilac Cottage encompasses all that you dream of in a quintessential English cottage."

From its thatched roof and cottage garden to the cosy and tasteful interior decor it really is all you could wish for. Tim and Penny have thought of everything you could possibly need to make it a home away from home, and with its great location just a short walk across the field to the sea, combined with 2 fabulous foodie pubs and village shop on the doorstep Lilac Cottage has it all.

It’s situated in a great spot whether you want to walk to the beach or explore Dorset further.

  • "Brilliant location; quick walk via footpath to the beach which was great."

Lovely local shop and pubs less than two minute walk. Great playground for a runaround. The cottage is clean and modern with everything you could possibly need. Lovely garden with table which we dined at on warm days. We had two small children and they had a blast. Found lots of wonderful fossils on our local hive beach towards West Bay and came back along the cliff walk for an amazing lunch at hive beach cafe (top marquee is bookable online). Amazing cottage and amazing location!

  • "The Cottage met expectations - was really beautiful, furnished to a great standard and only 10 mins walk to beach, fabulous beach cafe and lovely views and walk above the beach."

Village is extremely limited for anything else with only a small post office and a garage offering very limited food items.. The 2 pubs were fully booked when we tried. Location of exit gate from the property onto a bend immediately onto a busy road (no pavement) was of concern for us with a daughter and dog and traffic was noisy; although not a problem if you're an early riser and late going to bed. Whilst generally clean, we found a couple of items of the previous occupant in the lounge and bedroom (including their booking details from the previous week!) There was also a very large coffee spillage on the counter and some dust 'clumps' which left us questioning the standard the Cottage had been cleaned to and so ended up using anticbac cleaner on all high touch items ourselves. Property was advertised at 7 nights at a given price. We took a late booking and due to the changeover date could only possibly be offered 5 nights but were still to be charged for 7 - this was the Sykes sales guy (not property owner) as we later received a small discount on speaking to a different sales person who confirmed this was possible. Dogs are extra (not stated on site but only small charge) We found the first Sykes guy quite abrupt but both ladies we later spoke to were fabulous, polite, friendly and keen to be helpful. Dorset is beautiful. Roads make for an easy drive out to other areas. Lovely coastal drive. Use the park and ride if you go into Lyme Regis as it was impossible to park.

  • "The cottage and garden is beautiful and very comfortable."

The little village is amazing with two great pubs and very friendly people. Downside - description mentioned there was no parking but did not say how busy the road outside the cottage was with no pavement to walk on. Literally open gate straight onto road - not ideal when it is a shared gate with another cottage, we have a dog so we were constantly having to check the gate was shut. Inside cottage is very lovely but bedroom was very dusty (thick dust not just normal day to day dust) and kettle was in need of a good clean. All in all in was a lovely stay

  • "Lilac Cottage was even better than we expected."

The facilities were far superior and plentiful than any other holiday accommodation we have had. It was spotlessly clean and we felt really safe during the Coronavirus outbreak. The local people were very friendly and helpful. When my daughter's car was blocked in the gardeners and local garage went out of their to help, at no cost Thank you to both Could not fault Tim(the maintenance man) who, when we had a slight problem solved it straight away. If I really had to find something to gripe about perhaps a grab rail on the bath would be helpful for us 'older' ones. All in all it was one of the best holidays we have had and cant wait to come back to Lilac Cottage again. We are looking forward to our next Sykes holiday in October.

  • "An enjoyable holiday and the only niggle was the heavy traffic right outside."

I know it was mentioned and that care should be taken but we still weren't expecting so many large lorries and buses passing by. Unloading in the road opposite was tricky indeed! On the plus side the cottage was comfortable and nicely furnished (a few more drinking mugs or cups and saucers would be appreciated). Burton Bradstock is a lovely village and the local eateries were all excellent.
