The Cottage

On arrival the gate was broken to the secure garden for the dog .

Reported to Sykes no response . Had to put a heavy brick over the gap at the bottom that she could have escaped from. Plug hole in downstairs toilet not working properly. The shower could not be regulated either scalding hot or freezing cold and kept switching between the 2 very unsafe . The boiler in the kitchen clicks incessantly and is so irritating when the lounge is not far away and all open plan. Downstairs bedroom - the mattress on the bed was so uncomfortable and appeared to have no springs in it. The throws in the lounge were not used by us as they were already covered in dog hair . We took our own. In the garden the chairs of which there were only 2 were not comfortable , rusty and rickety not a pleasant sit in the garden and eat breakfast as advertised. We swept the garden and cleaned up the bench so as a 3 we all had somewhere to sit. That all said Langton Matravers is lovely , amazing scenery at your front door and the cottage was warm to come home to . Just needs some work doing to make it comfortable

The Cottage was just perfect for a weeks relaxing break.

Lovely walks on the doorstep and within a short drive. Cottage had everything we needed love the fact that milk, water, sachets of tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits were provided and washing up liquid. The cottage was clean and tidy. Our only small criticism would be the outside patio which is in need of a little TLC. Furniture was old and rusty, entrance gate was broken and needed to be secured shut with a brick and had a sign which said ‘Do not use’ but having dogs with us we needed the area to be secured shut. Hedge and bushes were overgrown and while give privacy shut out some of the sunshine, which we had in abundance, and put most of the patio in the shade so feel these should be cut back.

Very unhappy and disappointed with the standard of the cottage facilities.

1. No welcome information booklet - i.e, disposal of waste into rubbish bins. Separating food waste from re-cycling etc., No details of local amenities i.e. doctors/ hospitals.dentists, shops etc. 2. No visitors feedback book 3. Kitchen sink tap difficult to turn off and made a shrill sound trying to do so. 4. Unable to use the cooker oven as the information on the dials/buttons had worn away. The instruction booklet was of no help. 5. Smoke alarm on the stairs landing was bleeping and battery needed replacing - are the tested regularly? 6. Upstairs toilet seat damaged - surface peeling away. 7. Upstairs bath tap loose 8. Upstairs sink plug does not retain the water in the bowl - perishing? 9. Knob on a kitchen draw comes off! 10. Mould on downstairs bathroom blind has mould on it. 11. Unable to shut garden gate for keeping dogs safe within the garden area. It was held together with tape. Garden chairs were rusting and in need of painting. Good points:- We did like the king size bed - it was comfortable. The TV's were of a good size and the internet worked well. The car parking facility was good. The stting of the cottage was also good, as there were good walks immediately from the cottage accross open fields. Happy to provide photos.

Overall the property was lovely, well furnished with many small additions making a great impression.

There were 3 main concerns which made a few moans from the 3 adult occupants. 1. Downstairs shower room door handle/lock needs replacing as we got stuck inside! 2. Single bed mattress needs replacing 3. Eventually something needs to be done to the upstairs bathroom and plumbing. But we know the area well and have stayed all over Purbeck and did enjoy having footpaths from our door.

The cottage bathrooms and kitchen were very dirty when we arrived and cannot have been thoroughly cleaned for some time.

We had to clean it ourselves before we could use these areas. There are many broken and worn fitments. This is such a shame as with a bit of care this could be a lovely property. We have stayed in many cottages over the years and have never encountered issues like this before. We are disappointed to have had no response from Sykes to our complaint which included photos. Unfortunately, in its current state of care, we cannot recommend this property. There is also a half barrel acting as a pond in the garden which is unsafe for small children.

Unfortunately on closer inspection the property was not clean. The owner and Sykes were informed, and unfortunately nothing could be done during our stay. The list is too long to write with what was wrong with this property. General maintenance was also desperately needed in kitchen, bathroom and shower room. We do not recommend. Sorry.

Lovely small well appointed Cottage beside large Manor House (subdivided into flats) in delightful village of Langton Matravers.

Nearby Flat owners welcoming and very friendly. Great position, many nearby countryside footpaths and Priests Way 1.5 hr walk down to Swanage. Great bus service back up to Wareham. Landlord very responsive for any issues. Many Jurassic coast attractions nearby. Nice small bedroom downstairs, upstairs room delightful though sloping roof restricts headroom. V comfortable for 3, works with a 4th on lounge sofabed. Would like to return.

My booking with another provider (starting with v and ending with o) ended up in a last minute cancellation from said provider and abysmal support. I was desperate to find somewhere near Swanage. Checking Sykes I found one of the last cottages not rented for that very day, it was already well passed checkin time. Ian accepted our booking, and despite him having no warning, we found the cottage in excellent condition and welcoming. The cottage is very well located to visit Swanage and local area. With my children we walked from there to Keates Quarry. The pub in the village is 5 minutes walk and makes decent food. The cottage in itself is charming and has all the equipment we needed. The driveway to the courtyard is a littlebit of a hazard but nothing crazy and just few meters). There is a tiny museum in the village that is free and lovely to learn about local history. We did not have a dog with us but cottage clearly dog friendly. Quiet area with playground not far at all (2 minutes walk?). I would book again. Thank you!

Home from home type cottage with everything you would need for your stay.

Bus services to seaside town of Swanage or to Corfe. Good local pub. Ideal spot for walking with public footpath right outside the cottage. We really enjoyed our stay.
