Do not book this cottage!
The floors had not been hoovered or mopped prior to our arrival. Every single chair in the property was covered in stains. The bedding and towels smelled stale and damp. Shockingly, the pillowcases in the main bedroom were stained yellow. Later in our stay, we discovered red stains on the bed sheets, which was horrifying to say the least. There was visible mould in the bathroom, and the extraction fan was filthy and completely broken. The bath did not drain properly, and the provided bath safety mat was so vile we could not use it, forcing us to awkwardly hold the children in the tub to keep them safe. Furthermore, the utility room smelled strongly of damp. As a property marketed to families, the lack of basic safety measures was appalling: Cleaning products, including bleach, were left loose on the bathroom floor and fully accessible to our children. The front gate is broken and held shut using two bungee cords. This is a massive safety risk for a property hosting young children. There is uneven flooring and sections of floorboards completely missing in the utility room. The property is in a general state of disrepair. Every wall is covered in marks or mismatched paint, with paint splatters and crumbling paint on the walls in the bathroom and utility room.
Access appalling, dangerous steps front and rear access.
Should be inspected and mentioned on your website. Not suitable for people with mobility issues. This should also be mentioned on your website. I think Health & Safety would be a requisite and if they were notified I imagine they would stop any rentals until such time as the steps are purely right.
We loved staying at Pound Cottage.
it is an amazing property perfectly situated to walk onto Lyme Regis via the River Lym path and close to the Talbot pub, its opening times were a bit hit and miss as was the food service which was a bit of a shame as we would have visited it more frequently. Really lovely host, Jaqueline got back to us quickly with any queries which is more than I can say about your customer service team who were pretty poor overall. Just a few negatives, the entrance to the property is very steep so not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The gate is also a bit of a faff and needs to be lifted to open and close. Lastly the fridge and freezer is tiny so you can’t do a big shop if you are cooking meals at the cottage. Other than these small niggles it was a perfect place to stay and the bonus of a hot tub was great to relax in after a long day’s walking. We would definitely return again. Thanks Jaqueline
