  • "The cottage was really lovely and warm, spotlessly clean and cosy, had everything we needed, plenty of space for us and our little doggie, great location, plenty of great places to visit, we will definitely be back."

  • "Cottage could generally be brightened up, cushions and curtains very tired looking."

Outside backdoor, Old gate metal latch sticking out of wall catches your body/arm when going to garden. Apart from car parking issues, excellent secure garden, perfect for dogs and walkers, location excellent for various attractions.

  • "This was the perfect cottage for our holiday."

I would highly recommend staying here. Even our dog, who hates leaving London seemed very happy there.

  • "We are a family of 4 with children of preschool age and we had an amazing time in Lychgate cottage."

The space is fantastic, children could roam freely and enjoyed all the games and lego available. They felt safe and comfortable. Things are maybe a little aged, but everything was in working order. Apart from the washing machine - it didn't draw water at the first attempt and when you put it on spin it would draw water! We kind of gave up in the end. We had no problems with parking right next to the cottage's wall that is the side of the dining area or on the street, no one ever made us feel bad about it. Weymouth beach was the main highlight and everything was in driving proximity of 10 minutes. Brilliant holidays in a very nice accommodation!!

  • "The cottage was lovely and quaint but as to be expected with a property of this age there was a smell of damp, lots of cobwebs and no parking."

The listing stated that there was parking in the street but the lane is very narrow, a lot of residents had no drive and more than 1 vehicle. The residents that did have drives had no parking signs opposite their drives as they would not be able to access them if there was a vehicle was parked. On our first night a resident told us to move our car as there were tractor and trailers up and down the lane and our car would get damaged. We parked where he suggested and in the morning we had a note from the parish council on the car asking us not to park there. This cause us some upset!

  • "My wife and I + doggie had a wonderful week at Lychgate Cottage blessed by great weather."

The cottage has magical memories for me, as my mother lived there a long time ago and I hadn`t seen it for 70 years. It was wonderful to be back. I have posted a message about the holiday including a picture of the house on my Facebook www.facebook.com/groups/diddydavidhamilton

  • "We found the whole process smooth and well organised."

We have never considered a UK holiday before but because of the current circumstances we chose to this year and we were very pleasantly surprised. The accommodation was exactly as described and the service received when booking was excellent. We also had a maintenance issue during our stay when the shower stopped working. Within hours this was resolved. All round we are very pleased with the service we received.

  • "The cottage was brilliant and exceeded expectations in most respects."

Little things which would have improved the experience. A supply of toilet rolls and kitchen towel. I took tee towels and dishwasher tablets as they aren't normally supplied but they were available. Lounge flooring needed a wash but that's understanable with dogs and walkers staying.

  • "We enjoyed a lovely week in Lychgate Cottage - pretty well perfect for us & our 2 Scottish Terriers."

The cottage was well equipped, yes a bit old fashioned in places but with a sparkling new kitchen. Fabulous to have great walks we could do from the village without always having to load the dogs into the car but near enough to Weymouth to enjoy trips in for fish & chips or wandering along the esplanade & around the harbour. Definitely one on our list for visiting again!

  • "The cottage looks idyllic and its setting is incomparable; however for a long stay (two weeks) the furniture is very uncomfortable particularly if you have a 'back'!"

Presumably nothing can be done about the tv reception which is very bad and frustrated our Wimbledon efforts!! Touches appreciated were the laundry change mid holiday, and the scrupulous maintenance of a very beautiful garden. Thankyou!

  • "It was in a fabulous location, had a beautiful garden, near a nice pub, the sea."

The only constraint was the parking, even though we had enough room it was a bit of a worry that we were going to upset neighbours. Could have done with a better range of games for rainy days as we were all adults. The kitchen didn't have enough dishwasher tablets! or enough toilet roll. Otherwise a very enjoyable experience and would/have recommended it!

About the location

Osmington village, sits on the Jurassic coastline of Dorset, just 6 miles from Weymouth with it’s infamous beach and historic harbour and just 11 miles from Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Home to the famous Chalk hillside carving of George III on horseback, cut into the hillside to commemorate the Royal visits to Weymouth, this landmark can be seen from miles away. It is also the place that John Constable spent his honeymoon in 1816 and where he completed his painting of Weymouth Bay that now hangs in the National Gallery. The South West Coastal path runs through Osmington Mills, a tiny hamlet on the edge of Osmington. Here many walkers start their coast path walks at the Smugglers inn, where reputedly there are historic connections to smuggling. Be sure to visit to find out all the stories. A short drive will see you reach a local convenience store at Preston. Weymouth offers a larger variety of shopping, eating and entertainment choices.
