  • "A very and clean and comfortable holiday home with lovely views across to Portland."

The quiet and clean beach was only across the road and down some wooden steps. We saw a beautiful sunrise! The property had all we needed with a lovely welcome pack on arrival and great walks from the door. Beds were very comfortable and white towels were soft.

Thank you for these great comments, we are glad you had an enjoyable stay at Castle Cove View. Property Owner

  • "A lovely house, nicely decorated, very well equipped and in a good location."

A short walk to the castle gardens and to small local beaches and a 20-30 minute pleasant walk along the old railway line into weymouth and, the other way, towards chesil beach. Friendly communication from the owners and an unexpected welcome pack with some chocolates and biscuits was well received. The whole house is in good condition. The twin beds downstairs are quite narrow. The double room is good and the master suite is very nice. There are sea views from the living area and from the master bedroom, and the kitchen is well equipped.

Thank you so much for these wonderful comments and so pleased you had a lovely time. We do understand about the 2' 6" beds. As we let a great deal to families, the twin beds give us greater flexibility. Hope we might see you return to Castle Cove View in the future. Property Owner

  • "Absolutely lovely holiday home."

We stayed here with our two children, 16 and 12 and had a great week. Location is perfect. About 20-30 minutes walk into Weymouth, easy access to the Rodwell Trail and walks to Portland and the South-West coastal path. The house itself is really well laid out, with a beautiful master bedroom and en-suite at the top of the house. The open plan kitchen and dining area is particularly well-designed for the times we ate in, fully equipped and with a good sized fridge freezer, fullsize cooker, and plenty of worktop space. We had good communication with the owners and there was also a lovely welcome basket waiting for us - thankyou! It was great to be able to walk over the road to the beach and have a swim. It’s not too crowded with soft sand and shallow water, perfect for paddling and swimming. Previous reviews mentioned noise from building works but this may have finished because we didn’t hear any during our stay. All in all, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Castle Cove view. It’s a perfect holiday home, and we will be back.

Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback, we are so happy you have had a great holiday at Castle Cove View. When we manage to get to the house, we love having the sandy beach so close by. We look forward to you returning in the future. Property Owner

Felt very fresh and clean when we arrived, had everything we needed. Lovely touch to have a welcome pack waiting for us, we all enjoyed that. Location is amazing. Path down to the beach 20 yards from the front door and a 20 minute walk into Weymouth. Fantastic master bedroom with ensuite and views overlooking the sea. We loved the outside seating area surrounded by palm trees and lovely early afternoon sun. Communication with the owners was all very good. Would definitely stay there again and highly recommend.

Thank you so much for these lovely comments. We really do appreciate them. So glad you had a great time at Castle Cove and in Weymouth and we look forward to you returning sometime. Property Owner

Welcome pack on arrival was the best we've ever had, including crisps, chocolates, biscuits, a bottle of prosseco and a bag of treats for the dogs. Tea, coffee, sugar and milk were also there on our arrival. Great location for many attractions and a fish and chip shop, pub and shop within a short walking distance. • "We've had a really lovely week at Castle View."

The weather was fantastic so we went swimming and out on our two kayaks most days. This is a wonderful area. The house is very comfortable and had everything we needed. It was lovely to arrive to a big box of treats and they were much appreciated! We took the dog up the road to the pretty Sandsfoot Castle gardens regularly and enjoyed a coffee and pastry from the little cafe there. There are two points of access to the beach literally opposite the house. A private key was provided to open big gates to a slipway that is only used by very local neighbours, who said it was safe to store store our kayaks on the grass at the top of the slipway. This was very convenient, and completely safe. The public access is adjacent and is more winding with a few steps, but both bring you out onto a beautiful sandy little cove. The sea is clear and has flat sandy access to the water. It's a dog friendly beach all year round. Ideal for swimming especially at high tide, but the water doesn't shelve so it would be great for little people too. We walked over the hill to Weymouth - about a 45 minute pretty walk. Had a lovely brunch at Billy Winter's beach bar & diner (opposite Chesil beach) on the causeway to Portland. Also had great gluten free fish & chips from the Cod Fathers chip shop next to the Co-op only a 5 minute walk away. Castle Cove is a little gem and we hope to return!

Thank you for your lovely feedback, you highlight many of the advantages of this spot. Everyone benefits from the committed volunteers who help keep the little beach clean, and as you say, the sea is lovely and clear too. We hope to welcome you back soon. Property Owner

The private parking space was handy too (enough for two cars). The gated private access to the beach and private gated garden area across the road to chill out was also very nice. Close to amenities, local cafe, pub, co-op and chip shop (very nice) were all within 5 - 8 min walk. Only a 5 - 10 min drive to get into the Brewers Quay or the main town or try the local walking trail, Rodwell trail, etc. House had good views of the sea from 1st and 2nd floors. Nicely decorated, all mod cons, washing machine, combi boiler, cooker, showers, bath, 2 x wc's, tv in Lounge and bedroom. We had no issues at all everything worked fine. The welcome pack was a nice touch and very moorish. Clean bedsheets/towels, etc, even had wash machine tabs, soap, cleaning clothes, washing up liquid, cleaning spray, tea towell and loo rolls, The place had everything. Not quite 5 star, but deffo 4 star. We would definitely stay again, and would happily recommend this accommodation. Thank you. 8-)

I booked this house as I understood that it was under new ownership and was expecting it to be have been upgraded. The toilet /shower room, back garden and back double room are in dire need of a deep clean and repair. The toilet seat was far too small for the basin so didn't sit correctly. There was mould/mildew and dirt round the dated shower cubical. The back garden/yard needs a good clean and tidy up. The back bedroom cupboard/wardrobe was extremely dirty on the floor round the chest of draws, it looks like it hasn't been touched for years.

Thank you for your feedback. We are unsure where you got the idea that it was under new ownership and up graded, however as you can see from our previous visitors, there have been very few complaints. We accept that the garden could have done with some attention, for which we apologise. We have now tidied the garden and patio and it is looking good. As regards the mould/mildew in the shower and the cupboard, we have spoken to the cleaning team and it is all sorted. If the space is not ventilated it is sometimes hard to keep it as fresh as we might like. Property Owner

It was glorious to watch the sun rise on clear winter mornings. The house was comfortable but quite cold during the day. I think the property would be wonderfully suitable for a summer break. For the winter the heating needs to be adjusted and a wider range of TV channels that offer a film channel would be great. However we were between houses and we were able to decompress.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback to us. We are sorry that you found the property cold (it was an unbelievably cold snap wasn't it?) however we wish you had overridden the heating and used the two extra radiators provided. We find when we do that, we can get the temperature up and make it cozy. It is helpful to know though and we have reset the basic ambient temperature for future guests. As regards the TV channels, most of our guests seem to use NETFLIX and other providers when they stay. Otherwise, yes, you are reliant on the normal channels. You also marked the cleaning down, although you were thrilled when you arrived, I hope that you did order the cleaning throughout your 2 week stay, we leave it to our guests to do that if they wish. There are three areas which would benefit from attention: 1. The TV in the upstairs bedroom did not work. The owners are aware but this needs attention. The main TV was served by Freesat and the program selection was inadequaute. We would suggest investment in one of the new Sky Glass sets which do notmrequire an external dish but are internet connected. 2. The windows were badly in need of cleaning, both inside and out. We appreciate that with the building work in Old Castle Road there is a lot of dust about but again this needds attention. 3. The groundfloor shower has signs of mould which need attention. About the location

CASTLE COVE

Weymouth 2.1 miles; Dorchester 8.8 miles; Lyme Regis 28.5 miles.

Castle Cove is a firm favourite with locals, sitting alongside the Rodwell trail area, Castle Cove Beach is usually uncrowded, and offers safe bathing from its gently sloping shoreline. There are two main beach areas, Castle Cove, new steps to the beach opened early in 2019, and Sandsfoot beach, both with soft golden sand and the vibe of the best kept secret. Sandsfoot castle is just two minutes’ walk from the beach where you will find castle ruins, pretty, award-winning gardens and a small café, offering snacks, drinks and ice-creams. Accessed off Old Castle Road in Weymouth, this area is a real treat for those who want to be away from the buzz and bright lights of the traditional Weymouth Seafront, and yet close enough to venture there when they choose. When you are on the beach you could be forgiven for thinking you are miles from town, and yet you are only within easy reach of the old Harbour and access to Weymouth town centre. If you want to know where the locals would recommend you spend your beach days, then Castle Cove and Sandsfoot beaches are it.
