  • "The house was beautiful, and a great sense of comfort about the place."

The kids loved the grounds and the games and toys cupboard was really useful on the one rainy day we had.

  • "We have never been to a property where there were so many basic items provided."

Plenty of tea bags, sugar, coffee, dish washer tablets, washing up liquid. We only had to top up some items towards the end of our week's stay which was good considering there were 10 adults and four small children. The property is large enough that at no time did we feel crowded with so many people and the table in the kitchen is large enough for everyone to sit comfortably. Would definitely return

Indoors there was however a lot of living space for all 11 of us. The Kitchen is fully equipped, they cater for all including providing spices and oils. The owner is very pleasant and happy to help as needed otherwise does not intrude. We will certainly go again, as we loved the house.

  • "The farmhouse was large, comfortable and clean."

Absolutely everything you could wish for in the lovely big kitchen/diner, ( and we are a group who cook) the two sitting rooms also large enough to accommodate 9 of us comfortably, very cosy and warm. Bedrooms and bathrooms all perfect. The owners were friendly and helpful but not intrusive. The surrounding area was gorgeous and we were very lucky to have a sunny week. Also could do great walks straight from the house. Would come again and would highly recommend it.

  • "Martes farmhouse was voted by the family (3 generations) as the best rented property we have stayed in."

Could not fault the way it was equipped- plenty of everything & a really welcoming host, Seb, who greeted us & our 4 year old grandchild & immediately introduced her to the chickens & pigs! As we were very fortunate with the weather, we were in the front or back garden most of the time we were not out & about & used the BBQ most nights. Have already recommended it to several friends, which I believe says it all.

  • "I have nothing but praise for Marles Farmhouse."

An extremely nice holiday home, in a lovely area and with all the facilities and contents one could wish for. Very nice owners too. Our family had a lovely stay. I have more reservations about the Sykes experience. You do not make dealing with you easy. Firstly, when invited to email or call the Sykes person who is responsible for cleaning and organising Marles Farmhouse to order a cot and high chair, my email was ignored. I had to email twice before I got a reply. Secondly, your automated phone system is very clunky and requires the caller to listen to the entirety of several lists of options, and when one has finally been able to press the right number to choose an option you simply go into a holding queue with vile distorted music and no sense of how long the queueing will last. The person I finally spoke to about the item that had been left behind needed my authority as booker to speak to the person (my sister in law) who had called you about the item she had left at the cottage. I would have thought that a call from someone who had clearly stayed at the cottage, when the item had been found, would have been sufficient for your to be able to deal with my sister in law directly without wasting my time with your automated phone system!

Dear Ms Stoss, we are really glad you enjoyed your stay at Marles Farmhouse. We are sorry that the service provided by Sykes wasn’t a good experience for you. We are always happy to receive feedback and we will use your suggestion in order to improve our system. Property Owner

Stayed at Marles Farmhouse with 3 families (21-63) + 2 dogs, and we all loved the place. It was fantastically well equipped with everything you would need for a weekend away. The owners were lovely so helpful when we needed them - nothing seemed like to much trouble. The main kitchen / diner was perfectly sociable for what we wanted. I'm sure we will be returning in the future!!

  • "My family really did feel this was the perfect getaway and it delivered on location, we really loved seeing the wildlife and this was a highlight of our time there - even the field mouse in the kitchen was very cute!"

!! We relaxed in the garden a lot of the time whilst there and enjoyed some wonderful and quality family time which was the aim of staying here. We were a little shocked when the farmer next door appeared in our garden to get water practically on a daily basis from the tap under the utility room window, but we got to know and expect him over our time there. The place was clean and had everything you could wish for to enjoy a home from home environment. We did notice there seemed to be a lack of towels in the house on our arrival, and then spotted that the cleaner had forgotten to empty a laundry basket full of dirty towels in one of the bathrooms that we had not used (on our check out day!!!!), this was not an issue for us we simply washed the few we had been provided with. Overall we would come back to Marles Farmhouse and we would recommend to our friends. Thank you.

The property

About a mile from the pretty Dorset village of Salwayash, on the edge of the beautiful Marshwood Vale, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is Marles Farmhouse.

This detached, stone-built, fabulous family home is approached along wooded lanes and bordered by rolling green fields.

Peaceful and secluded with no near neighbours, (The owner lives on-site in their converted dairy) the property was completely refurbished in 2015 to include modern comforts, which perfectly complement the original 19th century thick stone walls, beams and fireplace, to create a smart, spacious and welcoming home.

A huge, well-equipped kitchen with polished granite surface and a dining area big enough to accommodate everyone is the real heart of the home.

Stretch out in front of a cosy wood burning stove in the sitting room, or for those not so sunny days the family/games room with table football, TV/DVD/Blu-ray, and a WiFi-connected music system/iPod dock will keep everyone occupied.

Alternatively, gather the family around the piano and sing along.

Also on the ground-floor is a twin bedroom and a shower-room making this property suitable for those who are less mobile.

Staircases at either end of the house lead to the first floor and five further bedrooms, all with pretty views over the garden and fields beyond – two king size doubles with en suite shower-rooms, two twins with zip-linkable beds to 6’ doubles and a family room with adult bunks.

There are two further bathrooms on this floor to complete the living accommodation.

Outside, to the front, a wide paved terrace with picnic benches and a barbecue catches the sun all day long, whilst to the rear, the cottage garden looking over sheep-grazed fields, has an enclosed lawn with table/chairs and is a great spot for morning coffee and wildlife-watching.

A children's climbing frame/swing and an open-fronted garage with table tennis are sure to be a great hit with the younger family members.

Scenic and secluded, Marles Farmhouse is perfectly placed for exploring this popular area of Dorset.

The vibrant market town of Bridport and the stunning Dorset coast with good sandy beaches at West Bay and Charmouth are all within 10 miles.

Further afield, you can spend the day hunting for fossils along the Jurassic Coast, take a stroll along the iconic 'Cobb' at Lyme Regis or visit the seaside town of Weymouth, where you'll find a variety of water sports to try.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.

About the location

Bridport 4.5 miles.

The attractive market town of Bridport grew up around the River Brit, and was shaped by its extensive history of rope and net making. The long, wide streets and alleyways between the houses were once where the flax strands were twisted into rope, while today those streets are filled with an interesting variety of shops, restaurants and inns. Bridport’s market is regularly featured on the River Cottage TV programme. 2 miles south of Bridport is the dramatic Jurassic coast at West Bay, now a World Heritage Site, home to the backdrop for TV's Harbour Lights and the coastal setting for popular Broadchurch, whilst the picturesque resort of Lyme Regis is within 10 miles. A superb base for exploring wonderful West Dorset.
