  • "On the plus side the apartment is in a great location and well appointed with great views."

However, we were disappointed we had to clean the majority of the windows to see them - having said that the patio doors had been done, which is a pity because the views were one of the features which attracted us. The main issue was the seating in the lounge area was very uncomfortable which made it hard to relax. There was also no welcome pack (a small milk would have been nice having just travelled 280 miles to find the local shops closed) and nothing in the welcome folder to show how the heating and TV worked which was frustrating. All in all we enjoyed our stay but sadly will not be returning because of the issues mentioned. Reading others comments it seems there is a common theme which really could do with being sorted out.

The apartment owners have taken onboard guest comments and are planning on making some changes to furniture later this year. We hope you enjoyed your stay. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "Lovely apartment, thoughtfully furnished."

But for £800 for two nights we might have expected a few things: 1) the temperature control on the shower in the bathroom has gone. It was boiling hot and very uncomfortable for showering. It couldn’t be adjusted cool enough. I was not able to wash my hair under the shower on either morning we were there. 2) the temperature control on the shower in the ensuite has gone. It was too cold! Unpleasant and couldn’t be used to wash hair either. Surely I’m not the first person to mention this. This seriously marred out stay at the apartment and I think you should consider giving us a considerable refund, since it affected our time there so much. I look forward to hearing from you further about this issue. 3) your guest information contains the wrong gate code. Serious matter! We only got back into the car park in the evening because another resident or guest wanted to enter after we’d been fumbling with the key code for fifteen minutes. 4) rugs or mats by the beds would have been nice to step onto when getting into and out of bed. As it was, my bare feet collected gritty bits on the bedroom floor and then went into the bed. 5) the lighting in the sitting room area needs attention. Sitting on the sofa in the evening, it was impossible to read in the gloom. There needs to be extra lighting, maybe a standard lamp, in addition to the ceiling lights. 6) the flooring on the balcony is horrible spongy stuff, curling at the edges. 7) the second bedroom is actually a very small room. You have to squeeze along the end of the bed to get to the balcony door. The wardrobe has very limited hanging space and shallow shelves instead of drawers. So, lovely apartment but there are serious shortcomings when you are charging £400 per night for our stay!

We will look into your points raised, and could have attended to some of these if contacted during your stay. The shower in the en-suite has recently been replaced so it is concerning to hear that there are issues with the temperature. The owners will attend to some of the other points raised during their next visit. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "When we arrived we were pleased with the accommodation."

Very well equipped. However there were no instruction manuals for any of the appliances. This would have helped a great deal. We could not get the main tv to respond to the remote after the tv had been on for a while. The weather was very bad during our stay, high winds and rain and as the lounge seating was so uncomfortable we ended up coming home early.

  • "Our 2nd stay this year."

As previously, the apartment was well presented, with lovely bedding and towels. Basics were included. The 'West Bay Day' was on during our stay, we love live music so it was perfect for us, but with the entertainment literally yards away, and very loud from noon til 11pm this should perhaps be taken into account. We love staying here and will be returning.

  • "Very nice apartment in a great location with views."

Kitchen well equipped. Dishwasher top rack kept on coming off its rails due to end cap missing. Sky sports channel would have been great. We emailed Sykes cottages to request the 2 single beds to be made in to a double in the back bedroom but this didn't happen. Overall a nice stay.

We do apologise that your request to configure the beds was not received by our local team, and hope this didn't inconvenience you. Thank you for advising us about the dishwasher, we will take a look at it. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "On the plus side: - Excellent location."

We especially enjoyed the view of the harbour and surrounding beach hills and sea. Having stayed in the area many times before, visiting relatives in the Dorset, it was nice to have a different perspective. On the down side: - • I specifically requested that the twin beds be made up as a double. Despite being offered this as an option, this did not happen. • Despite the response to a previous reviewer in August, there was no flexibility on arrival time. • Although we were given a local number in case of a problem, this diverted to Sykes. Although the agent I spoke to was as helpful as possible, I was told that my call could not be transferred to the local agency. • The property was advertised as being child friendly, but a cot was not available nor could a source for hiring one be recommended. • Being forewarned, we were relieved that the lift did not break down until leaving day. • Considering the price, the “bare bones” atmosphere on arrival, i.e., no welcome pack, was disappointing.

Apologies that we didn't action your request to configure the beds accordingly. Unfortunately at this time of year we are unable to offer early check-in/late departure, but we do try to accommodate these requests in the quieter times of year. Although the property is advertised as child-friendly, not all properties offer a travel cot/high-chair. This property does not come with a Welcome Hamper, but we do provide a starter provision of consumables (toilets rolls etc). The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "Our second stay in Venezuela and was so much better as the windows had been cleaned!"

Appreciated the tv that we could all watch in the lounge. One small thing - the lighting in the second bedroom (itself quite a dark room) needs to be brighter! Otherwise a great stay thank you.

  • "We loved the situation of this apartment."

We could look over the harbour, see the sun rise and just relax. The small rear patio has a lovely view towards Lyme Regis. It was well equipped with everything we needed. The beds, bedding and towels were clean and comfortable. Literally two minutes to the sea, with lots of local places for snacks or main meals. We will certainly look at a return visit. 100% happy with our stay. ----------------‐ For the owners information... this is not a complaint but may be helpful. In the bathroom in the hallway.. where you turn on the bath/shower there is a slight dribble of water which is seeping into the tile grout below. They may wish to check this.

  • "We booked the property for a Christmas present for each other."

When speaking to Lyme Bay holidays a few days before our departure, I mentioned Christmas tree or festive decorations. I was informed that the owner does not offer this. Was very disappointed as it was the Christmas period and the apartment just looked bare for the festive holiday. With the cost of the holiday a bottle of wine would have been nice. No welcome pack or goodies supplied. No instructions on how to change the temperature in the living room. TV in the living room definitely needs to be bigger. Ended up going to the spare bedroom to watch TV. Would have rather stayed in the living room, so that you have option of the view, also TV.

Thank you for your feedback, the owners have taken your comments onboard and have replaced the TV's with bigger ones and also put one in the lounge area.We do value guests feedback as this helps us to improve on the service we offer. Property Owner

A larger TV in lounge are would make a difference also as although there for the view when u do want to watch TV from sofa it's too far away and too small. • "Lovely apartment, very spacious, well equipped kitchen, wasted on us as with ..."

Lovely apartment, very spacious, well equipped kitchen, wasted on us as with such a variety of eating places on the doorstep we ate out all the time, think it's time to upgrade to a bigger tv for the living area especially as the furniture is the other side of the room, we were asked if we'd like clean bedding and towels half way through stay as we were there for 10 days, we stripped the beds as requested but the bedding and towels never arrived, but on the whole we had a great holiday, window's desperate for a clean, but appreciate it's coming to the end of the season

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, we are so pleased you enjoyed the apartment and all the lovely places to eat nearby. I know the owners are considering your comments about the TV and may well add another in the lounge area as suggested, thank you for highlighting this. We are sorry about the bedding, as you say, we offer a midway linen and towels change for bookings of 10 days or more. The windows are due to be cleaned next week, as you will realise this is a never-ending task being so close to the sea. We welcome and appreciate your feedback as it enables us to improve the service, we offer guests and the standard of properties we let, and we hope to welcome you back again. Team LBH Property Owner

  • "The apartment has the most amazing view of the harbour and sea which is it’s main selling point."

It was clean and tidy and has excellent facilities. There are a few things that need to be addressed if I were to award it 5 stars across the board, as follows. 1: the en-suite in the main bedroom has a smell of ‘drains’. There was an air freshener in there when we arrived to try to mask it but it had run out so we had to purchase a new one which we left behind when we vacated the apartment. We had to put bleach down the sink, shower and toilet every other day to try to stop it. This was actually an issue back in 2010 when we first stayed in this apartment. The shower cubicle sealant and door sealant has black mould in places which isn’t very pleasant to look at and use. In the lounge there is no dining table, but there is space for a small round one and 4 seats next to the pillar, which is otherwise a large wasted space / opportunity. The main TV in the lounge/kitchen is tiny and you can only really watch it from the breakfast bar, or go and watch TV in the bedroom. We were lucky to have great weather so didn’t watch much TV but when we did want to it’s not ideal. There are no guest parking facilities if someone visits for an overnight stay, we were lucky to discover the spaces outside the apartment that area not well signposted and are on a donation basis, at a minimum make people aware of this in the literature, or better still set up an arrangement for customers guests to be able to park / pay to park cheaply overnight nearby. Finally, setting an earliest arrival time of 4 p.m. is too late, especially when previous occupants have to be out by 10 a.m. if this could be brought forward to 2 p.m. or ideally mid-day that;d be so much better as you could enjoy the day of arrival much more. If all of this things were addressed I would score this appartment 5/5 across the board.

We are grateful for your extensive feedback and are delighted that you enjoyed the view and facilities at Venezuela. I have asked housekeeping to check the drains and shower sealant specifically so we can arrange the appropriate works. We have discussed with the owner your comments and they are considering adding another bigger TV in the sofa area of the room. Whilst the breakfast bar is there we are not sure there is room for a table and chairs and wouldn’t like to screen the wonderful view. We know that some guests choose to take the patio table and chairs inside for a sit down meal in inclement weather giving an option of spaces to eat whilst enjoying the outlook. Usually there is ample parking in West Bay with various long stay car parking options. Thank you for your comments around check in timings, we do try to accommodate early check ins where possible, do call ahead if this would help you. It does depend on whether the apartment is on a changeover day and also the housekeeping teams capacity on the day. We hope to welcome you back. Team LBH Property Owner

  • "The apartment is lovely."

The views and the location are great. However, the level of cleanliness could be better. It’s mostly clean & the beds & linen are clean as expected. But there is a lack of care. The kettle is so full of limescale you have to fill it quite full or the limescale comes out into your cup and it doesn’t pour properly. There were discarded labels in the second bedroom wardrobe. I know this isn’t actually dirty but it shows things aren’t checked. The microwave was clean inside but it was dusty as was the little table next to it. The windows are very dirty. I know the apartment is on the second floor but most windows have a balcony outside them. We had to wash some of the crockery and cutlery before we could use them. When leaving we are asked to put all linen in a bag because of covid which is fair enough. But the same care doesn’t seem to be taken with us having to use things after previous occupants which haven’t been thoroughly cleaned. We stayed in one of your other apartments in West Bay last year and had no problem. I also spoke to someone at your company concerning the cleanliness after seeing a similar review to this one. I would love to stay here again but until the cleaning company you use improves their standards I would be reluctant to do so, which would be a great shame.

  • "Fantastic location but the smell of rancid cooking oil from the cafe below was awful."

Thankfully this was during the day only and not in the evening as it was closed. The property had not been cleaned that well as there were dust balls everywhere, used crisp packets under the sofa in the living room and also in the 2nd bedroom. This does surprise me as there should be more than enough time to clean the property as on the change over day you need to be out by 10am and the next guest cannot check in until 4pm!
