  • "The cottage was comfortable and provided good facilities."

however the cd player was a mystery to me with no clear instructions. The garden furniture needs replacing. They provide no comfort and one chair is broken. the clothes airer is is broken and not fit for use.

  • "The cottage was fabulous."

It was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. I appreciated the attention to detail of providing milk, tea, coffee, sugar and if you brought a dog with you they had a bowl and a jar of dog treats. It was also a lovely touch to be welcomed with a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge and some local biscuits. We had an amazing stay and would definitely book again. I would also love to find out more about the history of the cottage. All we found out was it was built in the 1600s

  • "Ivy cottage was just as we expected and we had a wonderful holiday."

It is well placed 10/15 mins walk from the pretty cove with its lovely restaurants( booking ahead advisable) and delicious Ice cream kiosks. We had anticipated that parking might be an issue and having a fairly large car this almost stopped us booking however it was not an issue at all despite our neighbour having a transit van!! Would definitely stay again the only downside was the slightly uncomfortable beds, previous guests had mentioned a mattress topper which would be a good idea. Great for our 2 dogs they loved it too.

  • "Good accommodation and location."

All facilities provided met our requirements. One parking space for the cottage was not ideal, but managed with street parking for the second car. A downstairs loo would be useful, but we acknowledge this is an old property, with lots of character. The Castle Inn next door is a real bonus and not at all noisy. Overall a very pleasant stay and we will certainly book again.

  • "A truly lovely stay at Ivy Cottage with its thatched roof."

Had everything that we needed. Good sized bedrooms and having the ensuite helped. Kitchen had everything we needed and the living room was very cosy. Beautiful fireplace and we enjoyed the lit fire. We had our two dogs and the accessible enclosed garden was handy. Conveniently located to local pubs / restaurants and Lulworth Cove. Would love to return. Please note: towel rail in the twin bedroom needs replacing as unusable.

  • "For the owner: - the plug in the bath leaks - needs a new O-ring - the mixer tap on the bath is loose - needs tightening to the bath - the small cafetiere is missing the filter (!"

), needs replacing - radio - cottage could really do with a small radio. The CD players are a bit naff and the FM tuner on the one is pretty useless - the lounge could do with a couple of small lamps on the big window sills or a floor standing light (we borrowed a couple of bedroom table lamps - big improvement) Feedback: Delightful cottage, warm and comfortable, very well equipped. Having the wood burner going in the lounge made the cottage cosy and a pleasure to sit in and relax/read of an evening. Enjoyed having The Castle Inn right next door - great beer and good food. The ensuite bedroom at the back was spacious, comfortable and quiet. The two other bedrooms faced the road and were much noisier with traffic going past in the "rush hour". The cottage has been well fitted out with good quality furniture - has the most storage space we've ever seen in a rental cottage. We stayed in early January, so Lulworth and the pub were relatively quiet. We could imagine the road and pub would be much busier and noisier in season. Parking is an issue anywhere in West Lulworth, so having an off-road space is great - you just have to hope Little Ivy has a small car. Go and stay with the right expectations. We loved our week at Ivy Cottage - easy access to the cove and coastal walks, great pubs, cafes and restaurants. A beautiful, authentic thatched cottage to stay in.

  • "Lovely, comfortable cottage."

We couldn't have wanted anything more. Perfect location. It was lovely sitting in the garden first thing with a cup of tea listening to all the birds. The garden is a proper sun trap. The Castle Inn next door does fabulous pizzas which you can take-away if you don't fancy sitting outside the pub. Very little noise from the pub either. Great location for lots of walks. There is a little animal sanctuary opposite with a few sheep, pigs, chickens and ducks. To sum our break up, I would just say it was perfect, perfect, perfect.

  • "It’s a lovely cottage in a great location."

The parking is very tight especially if the neighbour’s car is on the large size and not fully reversed in. It’s the first time in over forty years of driving that I’ve scratched a car. The DVD player had sound but no vision. There was a hairdryer that was intermittent, possibly the power cable is broken. We didn’t use the grill as it had an unpleasant smell, possibly fish. The bath plug leaks, if you’re hoping for a soak in the bath you’ll need to keep topping up the water. The central heating was very efficient, so don’t worry if you’re looking at having a winter break. All in all a nice place to stay with a few issues to be addressed. The locality is good for hikers and dog walkers. The road network makes it easy to get around Dorset. As for local restaurants, you’re spoilt for choice.

The cottage is well equipped with everything you need and the beds are so comfy. It has two nice pubs within walking distance - and the Castle Inn next door is not noisy or anything. The cottage is a 20 min walk from Lulworth cove and a 40 min walk from Durdle door. The off road car sparking space was difficult to get / reverse into - esp as we have a 7 seater car - but it got easier towards the end of the week.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in beautiful Ivy Cottage in an absolutely fantastic location just a short walk from Lulworth cove, and even closer (a few metres) from the nearest pub (Castle Inn)!"

The cottage is surprisingly modern given its age, with all three rooms a lovely size and plenty of headroom which we weren't expecting given it is hundreds of years old. There is so much to do right from the doorstep, and the other attractions within the wider Isle of Purbeck are all only a short drive away (<30mins). Thoroughly recommend the location (West Lulworth) and this beautiful property.

The cottage is spotlessly clean and has everything provided with plenty of room for 6 adults and two dogs :) I look forward to this holiday more than going abroad as you have everything on your doorstep, beach, long walks and great dog friendly pubs! Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this amazing cottage and my two furry friends love it too! A few feedbacks have mentioned tight parking and while the space is limited, we had no trouble parking in the allocated space, don’t let this put you off!

This made the parking even more difficult. Some items didn’t work . Overhead extractor on cooker was inoperative. Other than this the cottage was nice but I certainly would not call is a “ dream cottage “ Wouldn’t stay again due to how difficult it was to park . We ended up leaving the car in the pub carpark most nights .

West Lulworth is a beautiful location - and the fact that we could walk from the cottage to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door was fabulous. The cottage was very comfortable for 5 of us and a dog - and having 2 bathrooms was very helpful! The fully enclosed garden meant not having to worry about whether the dog could escape and it was a very pleasant garden to sit in during the evening. Reversing into the parking space was a slight challenge but we had perfected it by the end of the week.

Ivy Cottage is brilliantly set up for 6 and we also took 2 dogs. On arrival the first impression, the photos on the website don't do the house justice. House is very dog friendly, from the secure garden to the solid floors, dog treats and dog towels - the property owners understand what a dog owner needs. Ivy Cottage simply has everything you need, even dog towels & dog treats!! The beautiful cottage is so clean and comfortable that we didn't want to leave! Mel and hubby ((sorry forgot your name!), are so helpful and accommodating, nothing is too much trouble. The Castle Inn pub is next door and most importantly, dog friendly and the food is good too! It's a short (doggy) walk to the beach, shops, restaurants and of course Durdle Door, there's also a great little Londis for essentials, which also has amazing homemade brownies and cakes! We all had a lovely time and found the cottage to be divine. All the equipment we needed was there, the beds were comfortable and clean and the towels were fluffy and clean. We also found the pub next to the cottage very accommodating, who let as use their car park, and it was very convenient for something to eat. I suppose if I wanted to 'nitpick' there may have been some very minor issues, however I can't remember there being any so they must have been insignificant. The property

Dating from the 1600s Ivy Cottage is a lovely thatched Grade II listed cottage sitting on the village road leading to Lulworth Cove in Dorset.

It is semi-detached to its sister cottage Little Ivy. Situated in the heart of West Lulworth, one of the most popular villages along the coast in Dorset, Ivy Cottage retains many features such as original beams and the inglenook fireplace in the living area - now with a cosy log burner.

Welcoming 2 well behaved pets you will feel comfortable relaxing in the secured garden after an exciting day out.

The house is fully equipped giving guests that ‘home from home' feel.

Lulworth Cove, famous for its geologically unique and beautiful cove is only a few minutes’ walk from the property where you will find tempting seasonal shops and kiosks including those specialising in ice cream, fudge and sea food.

Access to The South West Coast Path is also just a short walk away, where you have a choice of directions offering fantastic walks, views and scenery.

Make sure to check opening times to nearby Range walks for access to Fossil Forest and the ghost village at Tyneham.

Alternatively, you can look for some fossils and admire different landscape with Jurassic coast rocks at the nearby beautiful Chapman’s Pool, Kimmeridge bay.

Close to the cottage is The Castle Inn, a pet friendly pub with a comfortable garden.

A visit to famous Durdle Door, an iconic rock formation rising from the sea and resembling a doorway, is a must.

This is also a favoured area for snorkelling from the beach or walking along the cliffs.

A kayak tour can be arranged locally from Lulworth Cove and it's an experience to treasure as you are shown secret little pools, fossils and beaches accessed via sea only.

About a 30-minute drive to the west is Weymouth and to the East is Swanage, both are traditional seaside towns and perfect for a day trip.

On your return to Ivy Cottage after a adventurous day out why not eat alfresco in the enclosed garden whilst enjoying the last of the day's sun.

About the location

Wareham 9.1 miles; Weymouth 14.7 miles

West Lulworth boasts some of the most dramatic geological features on the Jurassic coastline and arguably the most photographed locations in the UK. Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door sit at the heart of this area and really are a must see. Lulworth Cove has many little café’s and beachside shacks serving local seafood, ice cream and other delights, as well as several restaurants and pubs from which to choose. There is an Lulworth estate information centre which offers an insight into how the cove and Durdle door were formed and Jurassic history of the region. If you tire of Cove and cliff top walks then Lulworth Castle is a short drive away and offers another glimpse at some more recent history, along with Tyneham Village, and Corfe Castle. This is a really special area and the village retains a lot of it’s thatched cottages and has a real air of a rural retreat.
