Little Ivy

We enjoyed our stay at the cottage.

A small kitchen with all the basics. A lovely shower over the bath, though the temperature is sensitive between hot and cold. But after a couple of uses. You find the sweet spot. Comfy sofa and chair. Dining area is a little snug. I personally prefer a softer bed, but my partner was comfortable. The main entrance is at the back of the property, away from the main road. With an entrance gate shared with the main house ( ivy cottage). Both cottages have their own fenced off garden and individual garden entrances with gates. All nicely enclosed with their own patio and chair areas. The gardens are safe for both children and dogs. There is a central gate between the gardens should a larger family rent both properties and want to open up the access. The parking is a great asset. Yes it’s tight and only suitable for small/ medium cars . We had a Dacia Stepway and anything bigger would struggle. My partner chose to reverse into the driveway to make leaving easier, as the road is busy during the day. To reverse out , someone would have to be on the road to watch traffic. There are many natural walks you can pick up close by. All with steep inclines but you are rewarded with fantastic views. There are many nice places to visit close by in the car. The pub next door is friendly. No loud TV or music. Serving food daily. I can recommend the pizza and lamb sausages with mash and mint gravy. We stayed here in a heat wave with temperatures between 30-35. Not all the windows open in the cottage. The single bedroom window does not open and there are no fans supplied at the cottage. We would happily stay again, but definitely bring a couple of fans.

Little Ivy’s living area was most uncomfortable.

Settee was lacking support, dining table and chairs too heavy to move and squeeze into between other furniture! It made more sense to eat meals on my lap. A smart TV would be a good investment. Especially as through our visit nearly every channel was football, tennis or horse racing!! Most shocking, I felt, was that half way through a 2 week stay, I had to ring up to ask for a change of bedding, towels and tea towels! No spare bin liners were provided? Washing machine is useful. But providing pegs and no washing line in the garden is not? And please get a frying pan!! Who on a self catering holiday doesn’t like a fry up?? Signs showing which parking space belongs to which cottage would be helpful. When we arrived Ivy cottages guests had two cars blocking our access. As did follow on guests. We ended up parking up past The Castle Inn on the side of the road!!

Perfect cottage for us! Location is brilliant for exploring the Dorset coast - we would definitely come back!

We had such a lovely stay at Little Ivy, it is a cosy little cottage with great access to Lulworth Cove and the coastal path.

Perfect for walking the dog and getting some fresh sea air. The local cafes and restaurants were excellent. As others have already mentioned, parking is a bit of a tight squeeze and requires good spatial awareness, but we found it was fine. One thing to note for the owner is that the built in time clock on the central heating boiler does not work properly and the CH switches on and off seemingly at random & certainly not when the time clock says it should. This wasn’t a problem for us after we realised what was happening and we had such a lovely time, we hope to visit again.

Unsuitable as mobility issues.

Parking space was difficult to access.

Thank you for providing tea, coffee, milk and so on.

The cottage has a nice atmosphere, is a bit dark on the ground floor, though. It is really nice to have the enclosed garden. Some cushions for outside seating would be good, and we also think that the wash basin in the bathroom is a bit small. Beautiful location.

Lovely garden, very safe for dogs.

We had an issue with the bathroom but it was sorted promptly. Very clean and lovely to have milk, tea coffee sugar and wine for our arrival

Getting into and out of the bath was difficult without a grab bar (being elderly) Hand basin the width of a toothbrush was ridiculous.

Was very surprised that there was only a basic tv, even without a set top box. There was no CD player as advertised. Our selection of cds were obviously unused. Very disappointing.

Loved our stay at Little Ivy.

Very comfortable clean and the little extras were a lovely touch. Bottle of Prosecco biscuits filtered water and dog biscuits and poo bags. Lots of little touches like washing up liquid tea & coffee. Beds comfortable and location next to the pub suited us perfectly. Great enclosed safe garden for the dogs. Everywhere super friendly and dogs made very welcome. Would of liked a larger sink in the bathroom as quite difficult to use especially with the shelf right above it and more storage/shelves in the bathroom would be nice but it didn't affect our stay and I would definitely book again.

This is a lovely little cottage but it really is ‘little’.

It was spotlessly clean with lots of welcoming extras including a bottle of wine. The garden is good for dogs. Our main problem was the size of the wash basin in the bathroom. You can’t even clean your teeth without spilling water everywhere, never mind try to wash. If you had a small child it would be really difficult.There's room for a normal size basin so please upgrade it, as it is, it really lets the property down and is the reason for our low rating. Parking was fine as there was only one other car but I wouldn’t like to be there when 6 people are in the cottage next door. Please also check out the mirror on the road, it’s useless and you absolutely must have someone guiding you out.

We loved the cottage it had everything we needed and great having the garden opposite for the dog.

The only thing I would suggest is to get the light outside the front door working it would be most helpful for dark evening for letting the dog out for his last wee

Beautiful cottage in a wonderful location.

We had a lovely stay and whilst the cottage was OK and met our needs, just a few little things could have been done to make it much better. A bigger size mirror in the bathroom would be helpful and the organisation of the kitchen cupboards was very haphazard. If they were tidied and things put in a logical place it would not have taken us 2 days to find teaspoons. There is ample room but was not tidied at all. The dog pooh bags and torch were very welcome but again took us a couple of days to find as they were randomly hidden amongst other things. Lastly the dining table is too big for the space allowed and hard to use. A smaller more lightweight table and chairs would be lovely. We couldn't find any cushions for the garden furniture which would have been nice. Overall it is perfectly adequate, although needs a few small updates.

The only criticism I would give is that the bed was too small.

I am a tall man and sleep in a king sized bed at home but this was a standard double. Everything else was spot on and we couldn’t have had a nicer stay. Cottage is lovely the neighbours were friendly and it is in a great location in the village.

And lovely garden to sit in. Key safe bit temperamental might need looking at. Little shelf in bathroom radiator side could be helpful.

Lovely little cottage, the sofa was very uncomfortable, think the bottom had gone on it , needs replacing, kitchen utensils were limited, no egg Turner for frying, tray for oven was full grease , but it was we appreciate was only a kitchenette, overall we enjoyed our stay , and would use Sykes cottages again

This cottage was divine!

I can see that it’s has been brought up to a fresh standard and really enjoyed my stay there. It was a perfect location for travelling from. Welcoming Milk and biscuits, the cottage was definitely a 10/10 Thank you.

Lovely location, ample parking, lovely garden.

A short walk to Lulworth Cove, a pub directly next door and a good place for exploring the pretty part of Dorset and it's attractions. It is such a shame that this pretty thatched cottage is grubby and poorly maintained inside. I understand that a listed building comes with it's problems but much could be improved. Little Ivy has had many positive reviews and there are many who may accept the condition it is in. It would be so different if it was mine.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful village, we were surprised that there wasnt any provisions like milk etc, i know it isnt compulsory ,but it would be a nice gesture when we arrived,also washing up liquid would be great too, but this cottage is such a great base for the area.

Just a few things we would like to mention but overall a lovely cottage and fantastic location.

The cottage really needs a power shower and a thorough clean throughout, the cottage was clean enough when we arrived but the sofa and chair could do with a clean/freshen up. The beds were too high and duvet too heavy. The garden I believe was advertised as private, as pretty as the garden is, this is not private! I would recommend the cottage but obviously point out the shower and garden situation and also the parking is very narrow but understandable considering the width of the village

Very quiet clean and the goodies that we had when when we arrived where an added extra. Parking was tight but the couple in the larger cottage parked in the pub car park. Beautiful walks and plenty to do

Lovely little cottage, nice and comfortable had everything think that you could need.

Maybe the carpet could do with changing or carpet washing, just a few stains (does happen when there is pets) Could do with an extractor fan in the kitchen, I’m not the best cook but I don’t burn everything but the smoke alarm kept going off

Just returned from a lovely weekend at Ivy Cottage - 2 of us and 2 dogs.

Great location for exploring the coast on foot straight from the door. Lovely cottage and the milk, biscuits, loo roll etc much appreciated. The pub next door was very welcoming - worth booking for food as it gets busy. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Beautiful cottage and garden set in a picturesque village with a lovely pub next door, and walking distance to corner shops.

We have just returned from a week at the Little Ivy Cottage, had a fantastic time.

The cottage was beautiful, very spacious for 2 people with a dog, lovely enclosed garden, comfortable beds, warm, plenty of hot water and was nice to wash and dry our clothes before returning home. Was not expecting a bottle of wine, bottle of milk, tea, coffee, sugar, dog biscuits, cooking oils, washing up liquid, hand washes, toilet and kitchen rolls to be provided as a welcome package, very very thoughtful. Would definitely return to this cottage.

Totally delightful cottage.

Very clean and well equipped for our visit .We we’re nicely surprised by the provisions that had been supplied. A very thoughtful touch. I was pleased to have a separate garden area, gated and fenced off from the neighbouring property, as we both had dogs, so it was reassuring that we were able to keep them separate and safe. We had the most enjoyable stay, lots of walking and plenty of hot water for the soak at the end of the day. We loved staying at Little Ivy.

Nice cottage, feeling of damp did not help my arthritis.

Dehumidifier had to be emptied quite a bit. I should imagine it is better in the summer. We did have an enjoyable stay in this beautiful village. Great pub food everywhere although slightly pricey. Great place for walkers.

A lovely cottage, we had a great holiday, it was a perfect base to explore the area.

A couple of small observations- the smoke alarm is is so sensitive it went off every time we used the oven or toaster, and the boiler seemed to struggle to provide hot water on some occasions, despite it being re- set twice.

Generally we could not find fault with the cottage apart from a few concerns.

1.The small key safe is fiddly to use.It needs to be modernised. 2.The latch on the inside of the door needs to be larger.It takes quite an effort to raise the latch once in the down position.3.The small rugs "creep"across the carpet and it is very easy to trip up as they form ridges.4.The most worrying aspect of the property is the entrance and exit from and to the very busy road outside.The traffic speeds along the road .Reversing in is difficult with the heavy traffic.Coming out the mirror opposite is too small.Cars can be seen if they have side lights on but blend into a dark background without lights.

Beautiful cosy cottage in chocolate box village, super clean with great bedding.

For us a shower was missed and would be a great addition to the bathroom. Really good location close to a great local shop and the beaches.

Cottage was very well look after facilities within the cottage were very good. Kitchen well stock with everything you would need over all very good place to hoilday Pub next door very helpful very friendly wonderful food. The village and shops always very friendly and dog friendly.

Love this cottage.

Sorry did not put out the waste bin.We came down on the Sunday was taken ill and left on the Friday.The padlock in front bedroom was open on arrival.The cottage is well equipped.And the area is outstanding.

Despite the inclement weather we were able to get out walking every day sometimes with difficulty with the wind and rain.

Lovely to return to the cosy cottage and the Castle Inn nextdoor.

Could do with a dvd player for those wintery days to watch a good film! Main road bit noisy but we new that, facilities were good Would love to have booked again but we saw your prices went up!

Difficulty with the traffic noise in the morning as the property is right on the road.

I know double glazing may not be allowed due to the age of the property, but some insulation would be good. I fully recommend the pub next door, particularly for take aways, as you can just pop in and have a meal to take home in 20 mins. Very friendly & helpful staff.

We had a lovely time staying at Little Ivy.

It is in a great location, with the beach and other facilities within walking distance. My only negative comment is that a check needs to be done on the dishware and glasses mugs etc after each stay. When we arrived and throughout our stay we found that there’s items were not left clean and with bits of dried food/ stains left on them which was not pleasant to find. Other than that I would stay here again.

A wonderful weeks stay in Ivy Cottage and seeing the sights around Dorset.

Simply idyllic. I would definitely recommend this location and cottage.

A comfortable stay.

The owners have made the most of the room available at this property. It was well equipped. The only downfall for us was the fact that no shower was available. We would have preferred to see a shower unit rather than a bath but perhaps that would be a little difficult for the owners given the area available. The access was not easy but that was conveyed to us before travelling so we expected that. It was great that the back garden was dog friendly and secure so we could leave the back door open to allow him to venture into the garden with reasonable ease. If we chose not to use the car the local bus service was efficient. There was a pub next door to the property but that shouldn't put people off because it was not at all rowdy. We believe it served lovely meals but unfortunately we were not able to book as it was full at the times that suited us. All in all a nice break and the ability to venture further afield, either by bus or car.

The cottage was in a fantastic area to visit all the local attractions.

Lovely cute cottage, stayed a week with two adults.

We felt right at home. Everything you need, and more, is present in the cottage. Loved the area and things we got to do during this week: hiking, trailrunning, visiting nice towns such as Weymouth, West Bay, Bridport, Lyme Regis, visiting Monkey World, shopping in the nice small shops... Showering in the bath tub was totally fine and we slept wonderful in the great beds. We have a small car and thus parking was not a problem at all, but I can imagine with a bigger car and less parking skills, it will feel a bit small to get in. In the cottage we noticed a little "dog smell" coming from the carpet, and a lot of spider webs at the ceilings and in corners (no spiders though ;-)). During our stay we had a power break down, right at the moment our fire alarm got off while cooking. But it appeared it had nothing to do with that: the whole village had no power. Got really nice help from the main office when we phoned. Strangely enough we couldn't get the power working again ourselves (although we tried switching the switches several times during 2 hours), but a really lovely couple of the maintenance crew helped us out. For short: really recomment this cottage!

Little Ivy cottage is ideally situated to be able to visit so many places of interest nearby It is a very comfortable cosy house and a perfect base for a wonderful holiday

A lot smaller than we imagined very cramped indoors.

Lack of Maintenance could not close the outside gate, outside light did not work, inside very grubby carpets and settee suite, generally a lack of housekeeping. (I have photos if needed)

The cottage was lacking a shower - only having a shower attachment connected to the bath taps.

There was no curtain to stop splashes, so this meant running a bath for each of us every morning. There is a shared washing machine / dryer with the main cottage. Unfortunately our neighbours totally monopolised this facility including both clothes horses. We had a Jaguar F Pace SUV - it got easier as the week went on to reverse through the narrow gates and there was sufficient room for our and our neighbour's car to be parked side by side at the back of the property. The cottage was immaculately clean and fully stocked with everything you may need from a flashlight to dog treats to cleaning materials. The cottage was in a lovely location - just a 10-15 minute walk down to the Lulworth Cove. It was handy having a pub next door, although we were not impressed with their limited menu. Both cottages have their own enclosed back garden which was handy for our little dog to safely explore.

Everything we needed was available and we were cosy & comfortable. The lack of a shower (there’s only an over bath attachment) was a slight drawback as was the shared washing machine however these certainly didn’t affect the great time we had. We’d love to return one day. Thank you!

We had a wonderful time at little ivy cottage.

The weather was amazing and the cottage is very quaint and perfectly located. We brought along 2 very well behaved cocker spaniels they enjoyed the small garden each evening whilst you enjoyed a glass of wine. We did wonder how well we might have coped in wet weather the cottage though quaint is a little tight of space and we thought it would be difficult to keep carpets and rugs dry and clean. Perhaps remove the downstairs carpets and replace with wooden / laminate flooring to make it easier to keep clean etc. We would however definitely return again

Lovely cottage in a superb location.

Parking a little restricted if you have a larger car but still able to park. Pub next door not great for food but can recommend the Lulworth Cove Inn a short walk away. The fire alarm goes off when you cook. Standard double bed was a little small for me at 6’3”. Back garden is ideal if you have a pet as it is secure it also gets the sun most of the day. All in all I loved it here and would definitely return.

Difficulty parking unless you have a small car and difficult to get on to main road from property due to passing traffic - Sykes forewarned customers regarding this though.

Comfortable cottage.

Pub next door is excellent but book for weekend evenings. Easy walk down to the cove.

On arrival we were informed there was a fault with the oven in our cottage and so we were upgraded to the larger cottage next door.

The house keeper made the changes very quickly for us and we found her very helpful and friendly .

This was our first cottage holiday and we spent 7 nights in February at Little Ivy with our dog.

I can only describe our stay as brilliant. The cottage was immaculately presented on arrival, absolutely everything you could possibly want was available including nice little touches like chilled bottle of wine, quality packet of biscuits, tea/coffee, fresh milk and even a jar of dog biscuits! The quality of furnishings was excellent even down to the Egyptian cotton sheets and luxury fluffy towels. The whole place was spotlessly clean and felt very inviting, it was warm, cosy and fairly quiet despite it’s roadside position. The Castle Inn next door provided a warm friendly atmosphere with excellent food (especially the Sunday roast). Lulworth Cove was a 15 minute walk downhill and provided great views and other very good restaurants especially Lulworth Lodge Hotel. I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage and would certainly consider going back.

My husband and I spent New Year at the cottage with our two dogs.

We absolutely loved it! The cottage is cosy and has everything you need. Comfy bed, good quality bath towels and as it was Christmas the decorated tree was a lovely touch. We were really impressed by the fenced off gardens for both cottages as this is a huge help when holidaying with the dogs. The cottage is next to a fab pub, friendly staff and great food. Small disco on NYE but great fun! 10 minutes walk to Lulworth Cove through the beautiful village where there are more great dog friendly eateries. We explored so many walks from the cottage without using the car. We had a wonderful week and will definitely be back to Little Ivy, or the larger cottage next door with friends. Parking at the cottage really isn't an issue as some people have made out. We have a Volvo 4x4 and the people in the other cottage had a Land Rover Discovery and it was fine!!

Lovely area, nice walks, good food in local pub, we stayed in December so it was a great time to walk the coast path, however, I expect it would be a very busy village during peak seasons.

Cottage very comfortable, no one next door so parking and garden use was fine.

Really lovely little cottage, very clean and cosy ideal for a family of three, or four if you have a little one needing a travel cot, the owners have thought of everything, there was even a box of towels, a bowl and a lead for your dog in case you forgot your own, some dog treats for the dog and even a treat for us (a nice bottle of wine in the fridge!) Pub nearby was an added extra, we ate there twice, the food was good and no worries about who was driving home! Ivy cottage next door can also be rented and sleeps six we think so you could have two groups of friends or family and take a holiday all together! Would love to stay again sometime. The cottage was beautiful in a wonderful location and everything went smoothly so we could relax and enjoy our break. Lovely little cottage. Room for parking one car. Good size bedrooms and nice bathroom. Nice garden with patio furniture. Is on the main road but was not noisy. Weather cold while we were there so used the central heating. The cottage was warm within a few minutes. All bed linen and towels were lovely. My wife and I loved our stay at Little Ivy - our dog loved it too. It was perfectly sized for us, contained all we needed, was clean, cosy and perfectly situated for our needs. West Lulworth & Lulworth Cove, for us was a perfect place to relax and recharge for a week with our dog. We will be booking again for next year without doubt - stayed October 2016

This cottage was beautiful and better than we expected.Its location in West Lulworth was ideal with a pleasant walk to the cove and its amenities.The attention to detail was unbelievable from the bottle of wine for us, flowers, dog biscuits, bowl & towels to the hand soaps, cling film, tea coffee etc the list is endless and absolutely everything you could need. We chose Lulworth for our first family holiday. Little Ivy Cottage was PERFECT. It was the perfect size for the two of us, our 10 month old daughter and our dog. it felt very homely and comfortable. The house keepers were fantastic and gave us lots of details about the area on our arrival. There was also a dog box with treats, towels and spare leads, a bottle of wine and biscuits on our arrival which was lovely. It was very close to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, which were both excellent places. The location of the cottage was also good to get to coastal beaches and we covered a lot of the coast in our weeks stay. We have booked again for next year as we fell in love with Dorset and we cant wait to stay in Little Ivy Cottage again. Thankyou for making our first family holiday memorable. Stayed May 2017

Little Ivy was exactly what we hoped for, cosy, charming and very clean. The cottage was absolutely lovely inside and the owners had made sure we had everything we could possibly need. It was so helpful to stay in a place where kitchen basics like washing up liquid, salt & pepper, bin bags etc were provided and you weren't having to bring a mountain of stuff just for a few nights. The milk, wine and biscuits were very much appreciated too. It was a short walk to the beautiful Lulworth Cove and from there a stunning walk to Durdle Door. We enjoyed our stay so much and would not hesitate to stay at Little Ivy again. Stayed February 2018
