    "Beautiful property, beautifully furnished."

A great base to go out from but also a great place to stay in and relax. Had everything that we needed to cook and clean. Only one thing that annoyed me, which was when 2 men came to empty the bin, and there was no car on the road or drive because I was in by myself, one of the men tried the front door to see if it was locked or not. When he saw that I had seen him, they left quickly.

Hello Samantha I am pleased that you liked Anchor Cottage and that it was to your liking. Please accept my sincere apologies regarding the men that came to empty the bins. We empty the bins during changeover days which is normally on a Friday because it fits in with our work schedule and if those days alter we fit it in when we can. I will make sure that they are discreet should they empty the bins during people’s stay again. Thank you for bringing this to my attention and once again my apologies. Kind Regards Sue Property Owner

"Anchor Cottage was very clean and well furnished."

The rooms were good sized with a decent back garden and off-road parking. It's in the middle of Portland with some local shops nearby and a frequent bus service.

Hello Stephen Thank you for your good review for Anchor Cottage, it is much appreciated. Kind Regards Sue Property Owner

The property

Anchor Cottage is a traditional Portland Stone cottage built in the 1800s, resting on the beautiful Isle of Portland in Weston.

Ideal for a family of five and their four-legged friend, the home boasts everything you need for a self-catering stay, with handy off-road parking and an enclosed garden with a barbecue.

Step inside this characterful cottage to find a living/dining room perfect for cosying up after a day of exploring; the gas fire can warm the space after a walk along the cliff edges, whilst the dining table for five creates a space to plan the next day's adventure over dinner.

From here, the kitchen is well equipped for your stay, with ample appliances, including a dishwasher to help with the cleaning up and a washer/dryer to keep your wardrobe fresh.

Outside, meals can be enjoyed alfresco in the garden, with a barbecue for the warmer months and a lawn for the children and dog to play on.

Back inside, the bathroom gives the option of a bath or shower to freshen up before heading back out for an evening tipple, meal, or simply a stroll.

Upstairs, choose from three traditional-styled bedrooms, including a double, a twin for any siblings sharing, and a single, for anyone seeking a little more privacy.

When you're ready to explore, you can find a handful of attractions on the Isle of Portland, including Rufus Castle and Pulpit Rock, where some of the most stunning vistas on the isle can be savoured.

Over on the mainland in Weymouth, you can explore the lively Weymouth Harbour and indulge at one of the many pubs and eateries within the town.

Children in the group may enjoy a day at SEA LIFE Centre, or you can get up close to the sea itself at Newton's Cove or the popular 18-mile-long Chesil Beach.

Inland, you can find more hustle and bustle in the county town of Dorchester or explore the beauty of the Dorset National Landscape on foot or by bicycle.

Book your stay today to experience the charm of Dorset and Anchor Cottage.

Weston is a village on top of the Isle of Portland, in Dorset. Right next to the village of Easton and Southwell it forms a key part of life on Portland. Now designated a conservation area and place of special architectural and historic interest it’s a unique place to stay. Portland Bill is a 30-minute walk along one of the many walk paths across the Isle of Portland. Portland is renowned for being a place to see wildlife with owls inhabiting the west cliffs. St Georges Church is a short walk away and is open to the public, where you are allowed to ring its iconic bell. The cemetery has many fine monuments and gravestones, all carved from the finest Portland stone. Portland stone was also used to construct St Pauls Cathedral. Many of the local churchs and buildings have been built using the same techniques and are eye catching in their own right. Portland is most recently famous for it’s role in the 2012 Olympics and the National Sailing Academy is situated in the harbour, the perfect destination for water sport enthusiasts. Chesil beach protects the road to Portland and Portland harbour from prevailing tides and this large stone bank beach is breath taking in it’s scale. Portland is a really special location that is a pure delight to explore.
