Kilnmark Bothy

The house was really lovely and we had a great stay over new years!

Really beautiful location - would definitely come back and would recommend to friends. An improvement would be to leave some instructions in the house, explaining things like how to use the fire place (we really struggled with this one, despite having wood burning stoves ourselves - couldn’t figure out the chimney settings etc) locking up requirements for when we leave (cleaning req. etc) and also instructions re the heating. We actually found that the house was often too warm, which is a luxury of course, but it didn’t seem to make a difference when we tried to turn it down… assume it was on automatic setting? Also, as a group that enjoys cooking, we were really missing having a bigger selection of bowls (both to mix and eat from - there were only tiny ones) and the spatula was shedding plastic, so it would benefit from a higher quality spatula and utensils in general. Communications could also be better - we had lots of questions that we asked weeks before going, and we only got a response the day before heading. We had also requested the beds to be zipped apart via Sykes cottages, which wasn’t done, and we had been told certain things would be in the kitchen that wasn’t there. All in all a very good stay, but some small changes would have made it perfect!

Superb building, landscape to die for.

The peace and quiet was incredible. Very well presented, thoughtfully laid out once you find the cutlery drawer. Spotless. Just a shame about the road to it as there were terrible pot holes. We loved the sheep in the garden

We loved our stay at Kilnmark Bothy.

The property is spacious and the environment is relaxing. Any interaction with the owners or their team was pleasant and helpful. The beds were comfortable and so was the living area. The property is remote but that suited us fine. We took what we needed for food and drink for the first evening, which was just as well because it’s a long way to the nearest shops. Thanks for the use of your property.

Lovely house, roads to get there not so good.

Well equiped, no welcome pack and no information about anything. Couldn't find and nearby footpaths, so was walking on the road(quiet road) could not figure out how to control the heating, so the bedrooms were too hot. Beautiful views! Had a lovely holiday.

Lovely and spacious accommodation.

Very comfortable beds. Very remote but excellent for a complete cutoff from the world. Could benefit from a book with instructions for appliances and how to find the cutlery drawer. Unfortunately we had an unexpected powercut midway through our break which left us with no electricity or water for a long six hours. Because of this and no instructions on how to reset the underfloor heating (and a drop in temperature) we had a few very cool days to end our holiday. Having said all that we did have a good time

A very large property with amazing views and walks straight from the property + a lake nearby.

Plenty of other places nearby to visit. We brought my son's mountain bike and has was able to ride on his own for miles along the roads and explore. We may well visit again or one of the other smaller cottages close by.

Kilnmark Bothy is a beautiful place to stay with sweeping views up the valley.

However, on arrival there is none of the usual local information you expect to get such as maps, suggestions for walks, directions, recommendations and there is no welcome pack - if you need milk for a cuppa you have to turn tail and drive back to Moniaive 15 minutes away. It took us a day to find the cutlery drawer and there are no chopping boards or cleaning equipment like broom or hoover so it's hard to leave the place clean.

It states starter pack for the stove, however this consists of a few firelighters and a Box of matches and newspaper.

Reccomend taking logs as we did if it is cold on arrival the nearest place to buy logs/coal is over 5 miles away.could also do with a fireside companion set as no brush, shovel, poker available if you do use the stoves. Instructions for dishwasher unavailable it's a guessing game to work it. Apart from these few items a resutiful holiday retreat, peaceful and luxurious with beautiful views.
