The property

15/16 South Crescent (2Loos) is a fabulous, pet-friendly terraced house in the charming seaside village of Garlieston, Dumfries and Galloway.

Built in the late 1700s, the house overlooks the sea (with wonderful views from the upstairs sitting room).

The sandy beach is on the doorstep and perfect for building sandcastles, swimming, stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, the harbour is great for fishing and crabbing.

Sleeping six people across three bedrooms, the house boasts a king-sized bedroom on the ground floor, and two double bedrooms upstairs.

The king can be made into two singles on request at time of booking.

There is one bathroom (with over-bath shower) and a separate toilet (thus the name 2Loos!).

The well-appointed kitchen has a large dining table that can comfortably host all your guests.

The kitchen leads to a comfortable conservatory that leads to the enclosed back patio area which is equipped with a lovely outdoor dining area and BBQ.

There is also a utility room with washing machine and tumble drier.

Upstairs there is an open plan lounge with two sofas, a smart TV and stunning views across the bay.

A door leads to a private balcony at the back, where you can relax and enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine in hand.

If you fancy eating out, you are in luck as the house is conveniently nestled between a bar and coffee shop both just 30 seconds walk in either direction!

The Harbour Inn is a very popular local pub serving superb breakfasts, lunches and evening meals.

If a drink in the sun appeals to you, they also have a beer garden.

The Hive is a bustling coffee shop serving tasty lunches and a mouth-watering selection of sweet treats.

Supermarkets and other shops are a short drive away in Newton Stewart or Wigtown, although essentials can be found at the local petrol station.

The location is perfect for those wanting a base for walking and running the trails along the Southern Upland way.

Closer to the house, venture out for a picturesque stroll round the coast to the stunning Galloway House Gardens and the secluded Rigg Bay.

If you are feeling a bit more energetic, you can head a little further through the woods up to the remains of Cruggleton Castle.

Head to Wigtown, famous for its book shops (at last count there were 17!) and go for a fabulous walk along the Martyr's Stake, taking in some lovely views.

The historic town of Whithorn (the location of the first recorded Christian Church in Scotland) is only a few miles away and hosts the Whithorn trust – a visitor centre, museum and full-scale replica of an iron age roundhouse.

Nearby is St Ninian’s Cave, said to be a retreat of St Ninian, Scotland’s first saint.

Also close by is the Isle of Whithorn, a lovely fishing village with a great pub, the Steam Packet (with its very own microbrewery for those who love a tasty pint!).

There are two nine-hole golf courses within easy reach, at Wigtown and at St Medan (a beautiful course, with views over to the Isle of Man and lovely beaches).

In Newton Stewart you can also find a great 18-hole course.

Further afield is the vast Galloway Forest Park, where you can enjoy family walks with stunning views of the hills in Glentrool or, for the more adventurous, a spot of mountain biking at the world famous Kirroughtree 7stanes mountain bike trails.

The park is also Scotland’s first Dark Sky Park, one of the best places in Europe to stargaze.

If an escape by the sea is calling your name, come and stay at 2Loos, in the picturesque village of Garlieston.

Where you’ll be staying

GARLIESTON

Wigtown 8 miles; Newton Stewart 14 miles.

Garlieston is a small coastal village that nestles on the Machars Peninsula, looking out over Wigtown Bay. It was popular as a fishing and cargo harbour until the 20th century, partly due to the extension of the Wigtownshire Railway. Worth noting is the part played by Garlieston in the development and testing of the Mulberry harbours that were deployed during the D-Day Landings. Today, the harbour provides berthing for leisure and fishing craft and offers a shop and Post Office as well as a traditional inn serving wholesome meals. The gardens of nearby Galloway House date from 1740 and offer a superb network of walks through magical woodland that lead towards the sweeping shoreline. Just north of Garlieston is Wigtown, once a thriving port, and now Scotland’s National Book Town. Apart from the attractive scenery and the varied coastline, the Machars Peninsular offers pretty towns such as Port William, still a working harbour, and Monreith, which was the home of writer Gavin Maxwell and offers a delightful, sandy beach.
