A nice walk into Thornhill along a quiet road just under a mile away.

  • "Lovely property good location in its own grounds."

The only problem was it was very difficult to turn the car around as there’s very little space on the driveway and you WILL have to turn as it’s not legal to reverse on to a main road. But it’s a lovely location to use as a base for exploring.

Thanks Remo for the helpful feedback and for staying at the cottage - it was great to host you and we will look into the driveway suggestion (thank you). Next time, please also feel free to bring the car inside and park near the main house as reversing will be much easier and we are absolutely fine with this. Looking forward to welcoming you again :) Regards - Nithbank Team Property Owner

  • "MARVELLOUS Went with my wife and wee Border Terrier, Baxter in September 2025."

Place is fantastic, beautiful cottage and well equipped. A Cockerell and his family paid us a visit every day. It's quiet and secluded, would be even better in the summer ☀️, however, we were fortunate with the weather. 20 minutes walk to Thornhill village which was one Baxter and I did every day for a quick pint in the Farmers Arms. The well stocked hamper left for our arrival was excellent, great produce. This is our 4th Sykes cottage trip, so far Nithbank Cottage comes tops. The other 3 were wonderful, so gives you an idea how far these owners have set the bar. It was exactly the peace and quiet we were looking for. Well done.

Very well located with lots in a short driving distance and lovely walks from the doorstep. The grounds were full of wildlife and lots of hidden features to explore. Sitting by the river at night with a drink watching the fish jump and trying to spot an otter was so tranquil and relaxing.

  • "The cottage and surrounding gardens, and woodland walks were beautiful."

There were plenty of birds and other wildlife visitors to the garden. The owners kindly provided a bird book and binoculars to help identify the birds. The welcome pack was one of the very best we have ever received. They had thought of everything, bread, milk, scones, jam, eggs, orange juice, and even asked if you had a white/red wine preference. They also provided dog beds, toys, bowls and treats.

Hi Andrea, we are soo glad to hear that you enjoyed the stay and thank you for the lovely comments . Looking forward to welcoming you again! Property Owner

  • "An absolute gem of a retreat for two people with the immpeccable cottage set in a stunning woodland setting with short walks straight from the cottage and down to the river."

The welcome from the owner was lovely and we enjoyed the excellent communication. The welcome hamper was beautifully prepared and personalised for us which was a great touch. The closeness to walking in the Southern Uplands and Drumlanrig Castle & Gardens made it a great holiday where we didn't drive a lot. There is so much to do in this area (and we walked a lot in stunning scenery) if you can drag yourself away from watching the variety of birds and wildlife around the cottage! The art installations of Striding Arches by Andy Goldsworthy and Crawick Multiverse by Charles Jencks are within a short drive and we enjoyed exploring those on our break. A perfect escape.

Thanks Davy and Bernadette for the lovely review - it was great to have you both as our guests and we are looking forward to welcoming you again Property Owner
