Beautiful setting in quiet location. Comfortable and well equipped.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Stables.

The cottage was in a lovely peaceful rural setting. It was spacious and clean, with excellent facilities. The beds were very comfortable. We had our own back garden too. Emma, the owner, was really helpful and friendly. Unfortunately our car broke down, and Emma called round local garages for us. She even gave us a lift into Dumfries the next day, so we could hire a car. We have a really enjoyable break and would certainly recommend staying there.

Delightful property.

Comfy beds, plenty of seating in the spacious lounge. We had difficulty finding it because some clown had made a signpost for Penpont on the A702 point in the wrong direction! Not your fault at all but very inconvenient. Back to the accommodation itself - Only minimal amounts of crockery and cutlery were provided, so we had to wash up frequently, even mid-meal! A few extra place settings would have been appreciated.

The stables had everything we needed for a relaxing week away.

The large sitting room with the elevated view across the river with the hills in the background was exceptional.And the large kitchen with aga and central isle worktop was superb. The area is peaceful and a treat to get up in the mornings and go outside and listen to the birds with no traffic noise at all. There is a huge field to let your dogs run right from the front patio doors with supervision as the river runs along the bottom.There is also a large lawn to the rear so plenty of space. The woodburner is terrific and heats the large living room with ease. The owners are lovely people and are there if you need them. We are not people to visit a cottage more than once but but we enjoyed our stay here so much we would return without question.

The Stables is a real hidden gem!

Tucked away in beautifully maintained grounds it is quiet, secluded and feels truly special. Highlights for the adults - fishing rights on a beat of water right at the bottom of the garden. The beat which runs from the Keir Hills into the Nith is prolific with Grayling and even has a few brown trout. Great for fly fishing! My wife loved watching the sunrise by the wood burning stove and reading her book while hearing the kids play and spying on me in the river from the patio doors. A stunning backdrop! For the kids - my daughter enjoyed collecting apples from the orchard (with permission) and making crumble on the Aga stove, apple crumble just tastes better from an Aga! For my son it had to be ‘The Death Swing’!! An adrenaline rush for any kid only 10 paces from the cottage, within the grounds he also loved going into the woods and exploring. Emma, Roddy and her children are wonderful hosts, welcoming and thoughtful. It was lovely to have a hamper of snacks on arrival and milk in the fridge for a brew. We also greatly appreciated the books, games and home comforts. All the things you would normally forget are here and we felt at home from the moment we stepped through the door. We are already planning our next visit!!

Received a lovely warm welcome from Emma who with her husband Roddy has provided a perfect environment for a relaxing stay .

The cottage shares its beautiful gardens with the owners . It was well equipped and lots of little extra touches that provided the lovely relaxing base for our holiday. The river at the bottom provides a gentle background noise to add to the beautiful surroundings , everything you could want and delivered at such a high standard . One of our party was a wheelchair user and Emma sent me a lovely email the morning after we arrived suggesting walks that we would be able to manage and suggested dog friendly places to eat . Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.

A beautiful cottage in beautiful and peaceful setting.

Lovely cosy cottage in a quiet location; walks on the doorstep, Drumlanrig castle only a few miles away and hills and beautiful countryside just nearby; we were made to feel very welcome by Emma and Roddy and we had a lovely time.

We highly recommend this cottage.

Wonderfully peaceful location, and comfortable well appointed cottage set in a beautiful garden.

The view from the lounge over to the river and the hills is also special, great to sit with the sun setting and the wood burner flickering away. Also really appreciated the comfort of the beds and how well equipped the kitchen is - no dull knives or burnt pans here! Roddy was welcoming and made sure everything was ok, and there is lots to do and see in the area which is also great for cycling or walking. Wouldn't hesitate to book again.
