  • "This was our second time back to wagtail, we love the place, it’s great for the dogs, sort walk to the beach & shops not to far away ( within walking distance) the house has everything you could possibly need, a nice little home from home, there is everything you need, if you want to explore, or just walk dogs on beach area & the chill, I dare say we will probably be back."

The property

Wagtail Cottage is a charming single-storey cottage located in the lovely seaside village of Southerness, boasting fabulous views over the beach.

Offering high-quality accommodation for 4, Wagtail Cottage has views out over the sea.

You enter Wagtail Cottage through the kitchen and all the accommodation is on the ground floor.

The fully equipped kitchen leads into a living/dining room with TV, with access to the conservatory that provides those gorgeous views out across the beach and the sea.

It’s a wonderful spot for a breakfast cuppa or an evening drink after a busy day sightseeing or on the beach.

There are 2 generously sized bedrooms, 1 double and 1 twin, both decorated in a beachside style.

The family bathroom has a walk-in shower, WC and basin.

Outside, there is off-road parking for 2 cars, along with a seaside garden featuring a large patio and garden furniture.

There is also a small seating area close to the beach, and although there is no direct access from the house, you can reach the beach in just 30 seconds.

The beach at Southerness is a vast expanse of sand stretching around Southerness Point, offering views over the Solway Firth.

Spend time exploring the dunes, visiting the lighthouse, or enjoying fish and chips by the shore.

For nature lovers, the surrounding area of Dumfries and Galloway offers three nearby nature reserves.

Golf enthusiasts will also be pleased to find four courses within 10 miles, including two links courses at Southerness close by.

Wagtail Cottage makes a fantastic base for those looking to enjoy the great outdoors by the coast.

Castle Douglas 19 miles; Dalbeattie 13 miles; Dumfries 16 miles.

Southerness is a small coastal village established in the late 18th century, which looks out over the Solway Firth, and forms part of the Colvend coast, one of the finest stretches of coastline on the 'Scottish Riviera'. Home to three pubs, two village stores, and two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes, rock pools and Gulf Stream warmed waters, and one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland, built in 1748, it has everything you will need for a relaxing holiday. The nearby Criffel Hill rises to 569m, offers wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary below, and provides great walking opportunities. The Southerness Championship Golf Course adjoins the village and offers panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District to the south and the Galloway Hills to the west. A great location, with something to keep everybody occupied.
