Contents a little basic but that's how we like it.

Beds had comfy mattress toppers. Everything we needed in the kitchen. Plenty of grassy areas for the dog, he loved it. Fibre Internet with good speeds although the wi-fi signal got a little weak in the lounge and especially in the kitchen due to the thick walls. Overall, we had a great time

Lovely accommodation, very homely.

Having the fire on made our evening so cosy. Stunning location too, we had a brilliant time there.

We’ve just returned from another absolutely wonderful stay at this charming little cottage in Scotland, and once again it exceeded all expectations.

From the moment you arrive, you’re greeted by breathtaking views that never get old - whether it’s your first visit or your second like us. The cottage itself is beautifully kept, cosy yet spacious, and thoughtfully equipped with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing getaway. It truly feels like a home away from home, with lovely touches both inside and out that make your stay extra special. What really makes this place stand out is its surroundings. There are plenty of scenic walks right on your doorstep, perfect for both the kids and the dogs, who absolutely loved every minute of it. There’s no shortage of things to do, yet it still manages to feel peaceful and tucked away from the hustle and bustle. We genuinely couldn’t fault a single thing. It’s rare to find somewhere that ticks every box, but this cottage does just that. We’re already counting down the days until our return at the end of summer!

A homely traditional cottage set in quiet countryside.

When we were there (over Christmas) there was very little traffic on the lane outside, mostly the farmer going back and forth. Kirckudbright is just down the road and well worth a visit, lovely bike rides on the lanes round about and some great beaches and coastal spots such as Rockliffe, Auchencairn bay (follow the No Through Road sign from the village) and Kippford. And the log burner works very well, soon got the place toasty warm even in winter time.

This property let us down, it needs a re vamp.

The cost was over the top for what we got. We have booked holidays with you many times, but I think this will be the last time, we will be booking with a more reliable company

A very cozy and comfortable traditional Scottish cottage.

It was deceptively spacious and well equipped. The location was spot on for those of us who enjoy isolation with ready access to civilisation. And for those who don’t know Dumfries and Galloway, Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas offer the epitome of this under rated region. Lots to see and do locally and accessible for both Northern England and Central belt Scotland. We plan to visit again.

Oven needs a professional clean as dirty.

Duvet (double) heavy and lumpy. Kettle leaks (I don't know from where). Central heating is on a timer with no means of putting on constant when cold. Owner recommends using the wood burner for heat but only provides enough coal for one night which means buying and lugging bags of coal, kindling, matches and firelighters. Contents of the property are tired and shabby as is the garden furniture outside. No washing liquid/powder provided and minimal amount of soap. No working vacuum cleaner just a dustpan and brush (I like to keep a rental clean whilst I'm there particularly when the owner demands a £100 'bond'!). A disappointing overpriced stay where the property was concerned which has put me off using Sykes in the future. Wi-Fi correct password is in the booklet not the owner provides on the site. no kitchen roll and 1 toilet roll. Please provide this information so the guest know what to bring.

Lovely cottage in a peaceful location but only a short drive from Kirkcudbright.

Everything you could need for a relaxing break, very comfortable bed, great shower, WiFi worked fine and the gardens are perfect for sitting out in the sun. Lots to do in the area and walks from the doorstep. We saw red deer, red kites, hares, foxes and an abundance of birds all from the garden.

On arrival the porch area did smell fresh and clean but as we walked in to the property it didn't appear to be as fresh and clean it was tidy in appearance, log burner great, comfy bed peaceful surroundings other than the odd tractor going buy disappointed about no WiFi we tried to reboot it but to no avail, ironing board needs a new cover, Really narrow drive but we managed it, but hedge needs regular maintenance

The property is in a very quiet area surrounded by lovely views.

It is also quite spacious. In the good weather we were fortunate to have we made use of the garden furniture.

The cottage is old and quirky but comfortable.

The garden area was a real delight and we were lucky enough to have red kites hovering overhead and blue tits using the nest box close to the door. We really enjoyed our week in a very quiet, peaceful and tranquil location. The surrounding area is beautiful and we are definitely considering a return trip.

It's such an amazing place, beautiful sweet cottage with wonderful adventures on the doorstep.

Some bits are a little dated and need tlc, but overall, it is comfy well equipped with what you need . Great for dogs/kids as the garden area is brilliant.

We loved our stay at Camphill, the cottage is lovely.

Very clean, well equipped n cosy. It has everything you could need, and is set in beautiful surroundings. The garden was a huge success with our 2 dogs, and we had spectacular starry nights too. The lane is great for quiet walks, no traffic, apart from the odd tractor. All in all, we can't fault it. N would love to return. Thankyou.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at camphill.

One of the nicest places we have stopped at. The cottage is a lovely place to stay, clean, tidy and the kitchen has everything you need for your stay including an air fryer! The beds were the most comfortable we've had whilst on vacation. The gardens are more than enough for our four legged friends, and the lane outside the cottage is fab for morning and night time walks.

We loved the cottage, its location & the garden was perfect for our 2 dogs, can't wait to return

It was a lovely cottage set in an amazing location.

Everything you needed was available in the cottage and the main bedroom bed was so comfortabe we wanted to take it home with us. We will be coming back and staying again in the near future.

We wanted a secluded and remote cottage and Camphill delivered our expectations.

We had a lovely holiday it was Christmas so didn’t expect the weather to be great but we did get out and about the cottage is in a lovely area peaceful and quiet near to shop.

Camphill is the most amazing getaway.

This is a lovely place to stay in a quiet situation.

Easy access to the many places of interest which D&G has to offer. The house is clean and very well equipped. This was our third visit and we hope to come again.

Gorgeous little cottage with everything we needed for a relaxing (not-quite) spring holiday.

Particularly liked that the garden was fenced fully so that the dogs could enjoy supervised time outside, and the living room was very cozy with the fire lit after a good day walking. The owner was very helpful and accomodating, including good suggestions for walks and beaches.

beautiful location. All clean and tidy. I don't wish to list everything,but some upgrading of decor and new furniture/mattresses/kitchen equipment etc. Wouldn't go amiss. Also control of the central heating for guests would be great.

No holiday home is perfect, but Camphill comes very close.

Everything you need for a home away from home. If you're looking for total peace and tranquility, this is it. The neibours ( cows in fields surrounding cottage) are very friendly

Fabulous cottage.

Cosy but spacious. Had everything you could need. Loved having an entrance where you could hang coats, leave shoes and dry a wet dog! Garden was great. So much to do in the area.

We loved our stay, great holiday. Off the beaten track and quiet and secluded . Luckily the lovely owners of a neighbouring cottage were able to direct us to the cottage as our sat nav couldn't find the cottage.Supermarket was easily found in the village of kirkcudbright, which has a lot of shops and cafes that we were able to sit outside with our dog and we were able to get all the provisions required for our stay. Thanks to the owners recommendation,we went to brighouse bay beach where lucy our border collie loved the waves. Cottage had everything we needed with a large garden which we and our dog enjoyed. Decor inside and outside could do with a refresh but it's a great little place and we hope to be back in the future.

A beautiful cottage in a beautiful area!

Facilities in the cottage were perfect. It was the most peaceful place to unwind for a week. The garden was a real bonus, and a joy to sit out and enjoy the countryside. It was also completely secure for our 1 year old Lurcher who had a great time! In answer to an earlier review the parking is not a problem. We have a Land Rover and reversing up the drive to park every day was fine! Kirkcudbright was only 10 minutes drive away, and is a lovely little town with plenty of dog friendly places to eat and drink. Granted we had one of the hottest weeks in Scotland on record, but we will definitely book the cottage again outside of the summer months. All in all, cannot recommend too highly! Jeff and Di

We had a lovely stay.

The cottage was excellent, in glorious surroundings; it was very well equipped. I was made to feel very welcome by the owner when I spoke to her beforehand. The collection of books gladdened my heart. We certainly hope to return, and wouldn't heaitate to recommend it to others. perfect cycling country, which my husband enjoyed, though I was unable to join him due to my recovery from a broken wrist. The local walking was a delight, and we loved the coastline nearby. Very sincere thanks for a thouroughly enjoyable holiday.

If you want a holiday to get away from it all Camphill hits the spot, Surrounded by beautiful countryside Large secure garden all facilities dishwasher,washing machine,wi-fi,etc,spotlessly clean,this was our second visit and would highly recommend

Very secluded cottage off the beaten track.

Seemed to take forever after leaving the A75. Although the directions are clear be aware the post code is not accurate, so better following the supplied instructions. We turned into the drive thinking there would be a turning point unfortunately there was not and we needed to reverse out, not easy has the edge on one side was very over grown, and low dry wall making it difficult for either the passenger or driver to exit. After that we reversed in very slowly, even with a camera was a little tricky. I should point this a medium size car, Land Rover or other type and size of vehicle would struggle. On entry the property was clean with all the normal features, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave etc in the kitchen with dining table, a roomy lounge area with Sky TV. WiFi was provided, but it was very slow, not really the owners fault, probably due to the distance to the exchange. I did use my mobile data alot. Both bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. I found our bedroom very warm at night. The shower was excellent, with constant hot water. We tried to keep the place tidy unfortunately there was no vacuum, so with a dog the carpet became quite messy by the end of the week. Overall, the interior was OK and comfortable. But looked a bit tied, could do with a refresh. It should be noted in colder weather only one days worth of logs are proved, and need to provide your own. This did not apply to us as the weather was outstanding. Outside the garden was lovely with a nice table chairs and parasol, around the corner another part of the garden. The garden was the best feature. Lovely location, but the single track road was quite busy with farm traffic and you need to extremely careful. I had the joy one morning of both a hare and red deer running down the road. The town of Kirkcudbright was about 3 miles away, make sure you take a left from the property, not right that my SatNav sent me along a single track road with no passing places. You can pick up most of your supplies from there as takeaway food. The town its self is very beautiful. We had a great holiday and loved the area.

We considered that there was an insufficient number of mugs in the cottage, so we purchased some and left them in the cottage for others, along with table mats.

Cottage was comfortable, but times of the central heating would need to be increased in early spring, winter and into the autumn. We had no control over the timing of the heating coming on, which we found to be unusual. We had a very pleasant stay. Thanks

This property has a lovely, homely atmosphere in a beautiful, tranquil setting.

While we appreciate the many interesting places to visit it is the peace and quiet that really appeals.

If you are looking for a perfect cottage to get away from the stress of real life then this is for you.

A lovely peaceful location and a nice cottage, which was well equipped, the only downside was it was quite cold even with the heating on, so if we stayed again would visit when the weather gets warmer.

The cottage was a comfortable base to visit coast and countryside.

We really appreciated the quiet location. A inside door mat at the entrance door would be good to help keep the floors clean. There is a large puddle outside the entrance door after rain. To keep the cottage cosy we needed to put the thermostat up to 25°C.

The house is spacious and comfortable, but the main attraction for us is the peace and quiet.

the cottage was amazing inside the gardens wetre fab i am sorry but i cant fault any thing except thier was no phone signal but thats ee,s fault fantastic time had by all.

Although the cottage was lovely and the area great we did have a few niggles with the cottage there was never enough hot water for a decent bath could only put in apprx 3" deep till the hot water ran out the kitchen window was very badly fitted and let in a very cold draught throughout the cottage this was also not helped by the badly fitting doors we had to put towels down to use as draught excluders the rubber in the washing machine was disgusting and was full of mould no dvd player as advertised we wanted a nice quite break to watch dvds read etc but could not unfortunately we had to go home early the woodburner was easy to use and gave out a lot of heat some coal was available but thought one log for it was a bit tight The owner asked for details of the issues but never got back to us regarding these We do not really want to put the cottage down as was lovely and if the niggles were put right would be even better

This is the second time we have stayed at the cottage and no doubt we will visit again next year

Booked for 3 weeks in 2018 for wedding and honeymoon and the snug was listed then, when we arrived no mention of snug being out of use.

Picked up two lots of dog poo, the dog toilet next to bike shed was inaccessible due to brambles and nettles and the area where the washing line was, had foot high grass. Three days in the toilet started to back up and needed the engineer. Microwave needed cleaning when we arrived, freezer needs defrosting and mould around the rim. Had to buy cleaning spray for the kitchen and bathroom. Sun room dirty and damp covers. Bought games from charity shops for when the weather was bad. For three days we waited in for cleaner who was supposed to drop of the towels and every time we rang her the number was unavailable, eventually 2 sets of towels but no kitchen towel which we ended up washing it was dropped of. This cottage is only suitable for one week and in all the years self catering we have never experienced such a bad experience. Thankfully all the problems with the cottage did not spoil our wedding and honeymoon!!! Never again will we book with Sykes!!

Lovely homely cottage.

Very roomy bedrooms. Nice secure garden for dogs. Great location, really peaceful, yet only 3 miles from Kirkcudbright and 5 from the bigger town of Castle Douglas.

We had a lovely family holiday here with our two dogs.

A cozy homely cottage in an idyllic peaceful countryside location. Great to be able to walk the dogs out the door without a lead; the only traffic was the occasional tractor.

The best place we have stayed in twenty plus years of visiting D&G.

When we arrived at the cottage the cooker was not working because the timer was still set.

We rang the local caretaker for the cottage but she could not help us and was unable to come to our assistance. She suggested we rang the owner, which we did. We left a message but we did not hear from either party for the duration of the holiday. Fortunately after some time we managed to get it working. If there had been a manual for the cooker this would have been helpful. On a more positive note the peace and tranquility was second to none. The cottage was spacious and comfortable and met our needs.

The peace and tranquillity of location was great.

A return to true human quality existence, if only for a week. If I had the money I would make an offer to buy, it was so good. Touring the Solway Coast is wonderful, little road traffic and beautiful places to visit. The excellent weather did of course help.

Moderately irritated.

Garden unkempt. Four lots of dog muck on the lawn. Garden seat rotton and broke under me. Cold. No heating instructions: had to ring up caretaker. Cold overnight: double glazing very drafty. Sitting room rug absolutely filthy. What few instructions were in the folder were mostly out of date. It could be a nice holiday cottage but it has been left largely uncared for, except for the caretaker's weekly clean, which we had no problem with. Lovely location.

A really beautiful area, the gardens, towns and countryside was so well looked after.

So many lovely walks to do (several leaflets in the house) and easy to download from Walking Scotland app. Excellent Wi-fi in house. Dogs welcome everywhere except in The Ark in Kippford. Scottish people so friendly, excellent Coop in Kirkcudbright and Tesco in Castle Douglas. So easy to park anywhere and no car parking charges. Camphill was a very comfortable house to stay in, one of the nicest we have rented. Bed, chairs and kitchen all excellent. We would hope to go back one day but the journey from Hampshire is a long one.

We had a quick, friendly and helpful response from both the owner and local lady who cleans when we reported an issue with the heating, and it was speedily resolved.

We saw that some guests were concerned by the narrow drive but we reversed our 4x4 in without any issue. Will definitely stay again

Camphill cottage is lovely very clean and well equipped the owners have thought of everything.

The location is so quiet we could hear owls in the next field at night time. The garden is great and our dog loved having a play in the morning before we headed out for the day. There are lots of places to visit that are not too far away. I would recommend a trip to see the Red kite feeding station at Bellymack hill farm watching the Red kites coming in to feed is an amazing sight. Kirkcudbright town is really nice and we found all we needed there the tesco was handy for essentials and polar bites on the harbour do fab chips. I would say Camphill is a great base and very welcoming to come back to of an evening, I wouldn't hesitate in booking again. We will certainly be back as we felt we needed a longer stay to see all that the area has to offer.

Clean tidy and secluded

Camphill was in a wonderful and quiet location on a lane with not much traffic passing ,mainly the odd tractor.

The cottage had everything we required to make our stay comfortable. The surrounding area has some wonderful woodland and forest walks which we enjoyed before heading back to relax in the garden which our two dogs really loved and were perfectly safe as it is well fenced and gated. All in all just what we needed.

Althouh the weather was not great, it was nice to come home at the end oftbe day to a cosy cottage that allwed us to take our dogs.

We have had to save hard for a year to affrd that weeks holiday, pitty about the weather as we cannot afford to have a otherholiday. We have ued sykes cottages before our circumstances have now changed but a great company to find that lovely break Regards Debbie gilbert-swale

Fabulous location for a peaceful and restful holiday.

Very comfortable cottage providing us with the perfect home from home . We LOVED it

Very nice cottage in a very quiet, peaceful location.

One minor downside was the lack of logs supplied for the wood-burning stove; however we worked around this by placing a order with The Galloway Wood Shed, based locally which supplied us with a week's worth at very short notice. Overall very happy with the holiday experience and would recommend this cottage.

Lovely cottage in a great location.

Owners are very nice, and accommodating. We saw bats, and several birds of prey whilst enjoying tea in the garden. A great place to get away from it all, and relax.

Have just booked again in October.
