  • "This was our second stay at Vine Cottage, nestled in the charming village of Castle Hedingham and within easy walking distance from the castle (5 minutes max)."

Vine Cottage is the perfect base from which to explore the area, particularly if you have an event at the castle (which is why we were there.) Dan is a considerate host and we had all the info we needed beforehand. The bottle of wine and choccy biscuits were a much appreciated addition to our stay - we're very much looking forward to our return later this year.

  • "Vine Cottage is warm, clean, comfortable and spacious (apart from the quite tiny bathroom) with a large and comfortable bed and good quality linen."

The distance from the road to the cottage was longer than we thought from the description and a bit of a pain with lots of luggage. The village was busier than expected but even so we always managed to park on the road close by. There was chilled wine waiting for us when we arrived along with lovely biscuits and a bottle of milk. Overall we had a peaceful and comfortable stay and the cottage is great value so we would certainly be happy to stay here again.

  • "I enjoyed my stay at Vine Cottage, The place was warm and had everything I needed to be comfortable."

I didn't want to go home. I've been trying to arrange to come back in December. The owners (Dan and Juliet) always have the best interests of the guests at heart and are always on call if I need anything, even if it isn't house-related. Dan was so kind to give me helpful advice on my car whilst I had engine trouble. The whole week was a magical stay and I'm so glad to have visited such a wonderful village. The people are so welcoming. I would highly recommend staying at Vine Cottage, it's a good price, nice and private for a peaceful getaway. Thank you, Dan and Julliette, Hope to see you again very soon. :)

  • "A fair description of the cottage, etc is satisfactory."

All the basics are there and functional. Can't complain in that way and definitely for the price, it seems fair. The living room, bathroom etc aren't pretty but then they're clean and functional. Though compared to other places we've stayed at, small changes like more board games (the box present had many missing parts), a newer TV that's smart, better shower etc could make a difference.

Excellent location, cosy cottage, very warm, and had everything you could possibly need to make it extra special. Owner was very helpful and thoughtful. A bottle wine wine in the fridge that we enjoyed with the meal we cooked in the evening. There were individual teas and a big packet of chocolate biscuits. A thoroughly relaxing holiday, just what we were looking for. Would highly recommend. Thank you Sykes, and a big thank you to owner Dan. Well done! Louise and David

  • "The cottage was ok and had all we needed."

The bed was very comfy but the sofa and chairs were really uncomfortable. We never even met the owners. We had to cut our holiday short, leaving on Thursday due to our son having an horrific accident and being in hospital. I tried to contact the owners but had to leave a voicemail. I was really surprised not to get a call back. They didn't even check with us if everything was ok in general. I found this a bit rude. They could have called us. I also found it a bit much asking us to strip the bed before we left. Things like that are why you pay so much to stay in these places. A hotel would have been cheaper

  • "Really helpful hosts, nothing too much trouble."

They go out of their way to ensure all is well for you. Parking is just outside on the street but you can always find a place and it was quite safe. There is a hairdryer in the cottage by the way which is always good. The cottage is in a pretty village with a volunteer-run shop which sells everything on your doorstep. A lovely church is around the corner and you can just hear the bells. The village also hosts the Colne Valley Steam Railway which is worth a visit.

The lavender was too much full of bees and very close to the front door so the kids were a bit scared. Other than that would definitely stay again .

It was as quiet as could be, just the occasional quiet aeroplane passed overhead. Very comfortable bed and the cottage was centrally heated and kept us nice and warm. I was concerned about the on street parking, but there was no problem. Just the path leading to the cottage was a bit rough, but really no problem. Plenty of local places to visit. The only thing that marred our visit was the weather, but we made the most of it. Overall we would certainly recommend this cottage for a comfortable place to stay.

Only slight problem was that we could not work out how to operate the shower and had to ask for help from the owners. It seems that the shower controls had been fitted upside down which explains why we could not make head nor tail of it without some assistance. Would be useful to have had some instructions..

There were lots of little extra things if we had needed them. First aid kit, sewing kit, books, DVD's etc. The owners had tried to provide for all needs. They even left a jug of milk, some tea bags and a packet of chocolate biscuits for our arrival. I was impressed with the quality of the sheets too and the bed was comfortable. We enjoyed our stay.

Dan - the owner - met us on arrival and was very nice and friendly: on leaving, he was not there, so we could not say goodbye. Vine Cottage is a purpose-built holiday venue (that is comfortable and immaculate) in a lovely village with a great, ancient local pub (The Bell Inn) and a handy volunteer-run shop, both within 70 yards. Two (very small) minuses are that the tiny bathroom sink is situated opposite the mirror rather than below it, and the TV could be larger. I would wholeheartedly reccommend Vine Cottage

The bedroom has soft carpeting, subtle decor and a super king-size bed along with an en-suite shower room.
