Located on the western main hub of Mersea Island, a multitude of watersports can be enjoyed such as sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and kitesurfing, as well as fishing and crabbing opportunities aplenty.

There is also bike hire available in the village, ideal for exploring the island on two wheels.

Refueling is easy with the wonderful selection cafes, pubs and restaurants nearby and you should definitely aim to try some of the famous Mersea oysters, grown by local families for generations.

The island is also ideal for those with a keen interest in the outdoors, with wonderful wildlife, walking and cycling to be relished in abundance.

From the east of the island, during peak times, you can also catch a ferry to Brightlingsea to sample some of the famous fish and chips on offers and marvel at the rainbow-coloured beach huts.

There really is so much to do on this beautiful island and you’ll want to return again and again to this wonderful holiday cottage.

Head over to the beautiful beach and spend a day paddling in the waves, or why not check out the scenery of Cobmarsh Island and Sunken Island with a riverside walk.

Countryside walks can be found within the beautiful Dedham Vale AONB, Hamford Water National Nature Reserve, and Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape, whilst the historic city of Colchester houses several museums, many quaint shops and cafes, and Colchester Castle.

Around seven miles square, beautiful Mersea Island is one of the most easterly islands in the UK. The island enjoys an abundance of wildlife and is ideal for walkers, bird watchers and watersports lovers alike. The east of the island offers unspoiled, remote locations, filled to the brim with wildlife and home to lovely beaches, whilst the west enjoys a wide selection of shops, cafes, restaurants and watersports opportunities. The island is famous for its oysters, to be bought from huts or enjoyed in the local restaurants and is situated just nine miles from Colchester, a lovely town offering a castle, museums, a zoo, excellent sports and leisure facilities, a cinema, great shopping and good restaurants. A little further afield is Ipswich, with an excellent shopping centre and interesting places, including Christchurch Mansion, museums, galleries, and the trendy Waterfront marina with wine bars, restaurants and river boat trips.
