We managed to cook some tasty meals, using the one pan method on the hob, not having an oven meant less washing up. Everyone we met while out walking was sociable, including the dogs. The Hideout is ideally situated for dog owners with a lovely green opposite and fantastic beach walks in both directions and walks on the sand when the tide is out. Our hosts, Carol and Steve, made sure we had everything we needed. It would have been a little easier if parking was available on site for unloading grocery shopping and general convenience but there was ample parking out by the green.

Carol’s (the owner) attention to detail is unbelievable - from the well presented booklet explaining the area and all the normal items you would expect plus torches, vacuum flasks, fan, beach and deck chairs just about everything you would need and more. Well maintained and everything we needed was to hand. With a quirky seaside theme it really hits the spot setting the atmosphere for that break by the sea. The courtyard garden was a most restful place to sit with a brew or a beer and just listen to the sea only yards away. Our hosts had left us with detailed information of interesting things to do and places to visit. With the beach a stones throw away a morning swim or an anytime swim in the sea was most invigorating. We found the local's the most friendly bunch we have come across in a while, happy to share and inform on the beautiful peninsula. We would recommend this place for restful and relaxing stay where you can do as much or as little as you like.

  • "A superb small, but perfectly formed, hideaway located on the headland at Selsey."

I spent a magical week exploring the coastline directly outside the property and further afield - Bracklesham Bay/the Witterings are only a short drive away. I went further afield to Bognor and Worthing as well as into Chichester. It was quite heavenly being able to hear the waves crashing from inside The Hideout and I spent many hours photographing the enormous and quite magnificent skies! I met some very friendly locals who were always keen to stand and wax lyrical about living in Selsey. It was so lovely to be able to take one of the beach chairs, left for ones use by the property owners, with a blanket and a book and sit on the beach until it was too dark to see and not have to make the effort to make a long drive home just a 30 second walk back to the property! Carole was friendly and kept in touch by text as we kept missing each other in person until the last day! A lovely bottle of rosé and some milk and water was left in the fridge which was a nice touch. Top quality linens and towels with extra blankets and enormous beach towels available as well. One minor point I hadn't quite cottoned on to is that there is no oven, but good quality hob and microwave to use if you need to cook. All in all, I'd definitely go back for another week of beach heaven.

The hideout was lovely, we had everything we needed and more. The extra touches were unexpected but fab. The only criticism we have is when the weather is unsettled and you have a smoker there's nowhere to stand under outside the property. The other thing that could be a good idea is a stable door, so you can keep the door open on a hot night but keep your dog inside?? But on the whole we had a super stay. Thank you Carol and Steve for checking in on us throughout our stay xx

It was immaculate and fully equipped with everything we needed. The beach was right outside, (perfect for an early morning swim) and the waves could be heard from the garden which was very private and so relaxing. Carol and Steve were so welcoming and such happy people, which is understandable living in such an idyllic place. I walked early every morning with my dog and often saw the sun rise, it is a very dog friendly place and walks did take a long time as everyone wanted to stop and talk. We had meals at the Lighthouse Inn and would recommend it, friendly staff, good food and a lovely garden. Another must is Paddy's Plaice, the fish and chips were delicious and recommended by all the locals. The beach near the Hideout is pebbles but there is also a lovely sandy beach in West Wittering (that allows dogs) that is a short drive away. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to relax and 'get away from it all.' A big thank you to Carol and Steve it was a brilliant holiday. Julie and Martin...and Bert.

We were very upset and sorry to hear that you were disappointed. We do state that the space is compact. We'd hoped that the photos would show the scale of the space, when seen against a standard kitchen unit or chair. Regarding your issue with the internet, I can only presume that you logged onto another network, as we have a fibre optic broadband connection with two available networks for the property. It's a shame that you didn't mention this when you were here, as we could have pointed you in the right direction. About the location

SELSEY

Chichester 8 miles; Pagham 10 miles; Bognor Regis 10 miles; Goodwood 11 miles; Arundel 15 miles; Portsmouth 23 miles.

Once an island (Selsey means ‘Seal Island’), the town stands at the tip of the Manhood Peninsula and Selsey Bill, the southernmost tip of West Sussex. The beach at Selsey is one of the best in Sussex and makes for a perfect family day out. Whether sailing, swimming, beachcombing or just paddling in the sea, this lovely coastline can be enjoyed all year round. Perhaps fishing for the famous Selsey crabs takes your fancy, or there are plenty of restaurants serving this local delicacy in the town. Selsey has a full and varied past, once a haven for smugglers and vagabonds, this part of the coast is now a quaint town with plenty of fisherman's cottages, cafes and sandy beaches. Another reason for holidaying in Selsey is the dark sky; as most of the street lights are turned off at midnight, you will see the sky light up with millions of stars, which is why the famous astrologer Patrick Moore made his home in Selsey. Only a short drive from Selsey and you can be walking the lanes of historic Chichester with its harbour, where you can browse around local shops, or enjoy afternoon tea after a trip to the cathedral, before an evening at the theatre. If racing is more your style then make for Goodwood, with three big events each year, and dozens in between. Also within reach are Fishbourne Palace and Pagham harbour, and scuba diving and horse riding can be enjoyed in the area. Whether you are looking for a quiet, relaxing break or a holiday full of adventure, Selsey is an excellent destination.
