Mallard

This was our 2nd stay at Phocle lakes and 1st in the Mallards.

Whilst Phocle lakes has changed hands nothing has changed with everything you need there for you from great bathroom products, shampoo, conditioner etc to tinfoil, dishwasher tablets and even spa slip on’s. Cooking utensils and knives perfect. It was rising into 30 degrees and the Mallards was perfect having sun on the terrace first thing in the morning and at end of day, but in shade for hottest part of the day. Needless to say we used the hot tube a lot! It is also set completely away from skylark and kingfisher so really great if you want your own space. For my husband the fishing was really good - he averaged 7-10 carp catches a day and all 7-13lb. Even had a double landing as both rods screamed off! He even caught at 12-2 but they fought hard and had a few hooks spat out! So good sport. Ross on wye is literally 6 mins down the road along with loads of places for culture to kids. Highly recommend.

Mallard is perhaps the best lodge on the little Phocle Lake.

It is set a little apart from the others and has a very pleasant view of the lake. The hot tub was also a nice extra. The shower controls in both bedrooms are stiff to operate so need some attention. There is some road noise due to location, but still quite a peaceful spot. Lodge was well equipped.
