"Stayed at Afton Barns for a week."
Easy booking via Sykes Holidays and great communication from the owners.
The cottage was exactly as described on the website. It was clean and functional and great for us with our two well behaved cavaliers.
The cottage had everything we needed for our stay including kitchen cleaning products.
The cottage is in a great location, ideal for walks across the fields to Freshwater Bay, down the Causeway to Yarmouth and near to the Red Lion, one of our favourite pubs on the island.
Ideal for a couple, very pet friendly and we would recommend.

"Lovely cottage, perfect location ."
A bottle of wine had been given to us on arrival which was much appreciated. Tea and coffee was provided and some condiments. Shared parking , not very clear where to park as we had two vehicles with us . Park outside number 4 garage which is located in the third garage block on the left hand side as you are driving in. Property was not the cleanest we have stayed in, several cobwebs behind bedside cabinets and ceilings but appreciate some areas maybe difficult to reach. One of the dining chairs was wobbly and loose , but can see this has been mentioned on a previous review . There is one main bathroom for the property with a nice shower. A pretty little enclosed garden which was well maintained, so I did a spot of watering during my stay ! The geraniums looked lovely. We had an issue with the dishwasher during our stay but this was dealt with promptly by the owner. The owner was easy to contact . Would stay again and recommend to others .

"We had an excellent time."
The cottage was wonderful. So well equipped.
The only downside was our entry into the cottage. We were due to gain entry at 4pm on a Sunday. The confirmation email gave a telephone number to call for the entry code. No answer could be obtained from numerous attempts. Calling Sykes directly was no help either with it being a Sunday afternoon. Would it have made sense to include the entry code in my confirmation email?

"This is a lovely property, quiet and in a perfect location for people who want to stay in West Wight."
The cottage itself is lovely, the kitchen is one of the best equipped I have ever experienced in a self catering cottage, and the bathroom was lovely and clean. However, the whole place would benefit from a bit of money being spent on it. It feels a bit tired decoratively, and some of the furniture is quite worn, for example, the leather look sofas in the living area are worn and tatty looking, one of chairs round the table was rickety and did not feel safe to sit on, and the mattress in the single bed room was wafer thin. The shaver point in the bathroom didn’t work.
Having said that, we loved staying there, found it mostly comfortable, and would definitely stay there again.

"The property was only surface cleaned there were large cobwebs through out particularly around the front door inside."
The bathroom sink and bath took a long time to empty as though there was a blockage somewhere. In the kitchen there was no plug for the sink neither was there washing up bowl which would have negated the need for a plug.
It would have been useful for there to have been an information package for telephone numbers for local doctors, vets, nearest hospital etc. Also there was no visitors book so that we could see what other people thought.
On a positive note the cottage was in a nice rural area the bedding and towels were clean and The Red Lion Pub within walking distance had great food and friendly staff all of which I would have put in a visitors book.
I have one health and safety issue the master bedroom has a step up into it, when exiting the room it looks flush with the landing, on the first night my partner went to the bathroom, missed the step(which looked level with the landing) fell forward and hit his head on the facing wall suffering a large gash on his head and badly bruising his foot. There needs to be better lighting in this area and the step needs to be identifiable when exiting the bedroom

"Lovely setting and location - ideal for walks right from the door to explore the local area."
The home had everything we needed (and more!) and the welcome card and gift left by the owners was very much appreciated and a nice touch. Really accommodating and helpful when we had one small issue, which resolved itself. Highly recommend!

"Front door sticks at bottom when opening, could do with an outside light in the small garden."
Grumpy man from No. 3 complained on our first morning that we left the outside light on which kept him awake, might need a small sign warning not to leave light on overnight?
Apart from that a lovely cottage in an ideal location, clean, tidy with all the facilities that we required, had a lovely stay. Thanks.

"The Barn is sited in a pleasant space and is basically Residential and quiet."
Overall it was generally very clean ie Cooker and Microwave exceptional, bedlinen spotless; likewise towels. Bed in main bedroom very comfortable. I would suggest that a Bath sheet and a Bath towel be provided for each adult along with a hand towel. Also a squegee blade for cleaning the glass shower screen. Shelf / mirror set up over wash hand basin bit of a hazard for banging your head on!
Likewise, in the kitchen a supply of hand and tea towels be provided as one tea towel is insufficient for a week's stay.
Kitchen has a good array of pans and dishes, it would be good if a few smaller oven proof dishes could be provided when it is only a X2 person occupancy. Some dishes are difficult to reach on the top shelf.
A Polypropylene chopping board (Dishwasher safe) as opposed to glass, as glass blunts knives, all knives in the drawer proved this.
Understairs cupboard difficult to access for Hoover and mop & bucket, slight damp smell.
Sofa's difficult to get out of and are very low.
Patio garden could be very pretty but is showing signs of lack of maintenance. Fencing / gate and weeds.
A ring binder would be an asset for guests to have all information in one place. Leaflets on places of interest and entertainment, places to eat etc and your refuse/ re-cycling system instead of being in drawers / Notice Board. Also useful telephone numbers of Dentist, Vets etc.
Overall a good stay and I hope that the above comments / suggestions are taken as meant, in a constructive way.

"The website indicates parking off road for 2 cars."
It appears there is only one specific space allocated outside the garage for No 4. It may be possible to park a second vehicle on a first come basis.
Following an upgrade to the TV there is no DVD player.
The cottage itself was very good and well equipped. The location was ideal and both the owners and the on-site lady who cleans the property were helpful.

"Disappointed that nobody was at the property to let us in at 16."
30pm. After 2 calls to the given number a text was received saying one of the owners was unaware of the booking (from Sykes) until that morning and had been away, then in a work meeting, unable to respond. If we had not spoken to a neighbour at the development, who coincidentally was the cleaner to the cottage we were booked into, we might have been waiting more than the hour we spent trying to gain access. Unimpressed. The cottage was comfortable and clean with everything needed for our 5 day visit. Bathroom door lock needs attention. 1 toilet roll for 2 people seemed a bit frugal!

"Very quiet comfortable accommodation, probably the best equipped kitchen I have ever stayed in."
Only comment I would make is the lack of stair carpet which made the stairs slippery for my elderly mother going up and down to the bathroom .
Would definitely stay again .

"A very comfortable cottage with plenty of space in a great location for exploring West Wight."
The cottage was very well appointed with plenty of kitchen utensils. Having good outside space and convenience to great walking for the dog was also excellent. My only observations were that the sofas were 'well used' and could be firmer. I am reasonably fit and struggled to get up from them. The B3399 is quite a busy road so we did notice quite a lot of car noise but all in all, a very comfortable cottage.
