  • "The house itself is a lovely property and location."

    Stunning views from the garden. But as a holiday home it is seriously lacking. On arrival, after stopping at the local shops for provisions, we found that the ovens were filthy, ingrained with grease and baked-on food on the oven, racks and baking pans. Also, the ice compartment in the fridge was completely frozen over and thick with ice, which was mentioned in the visitors' book by previous guests, so nothing had been done about it. The property needs a thorough deep clean. There were a large amount of cobwebs on the patio window with dead bugs in them, and the glass was dirty on both sides. Particularly noticeable in the evening sun. Clearly it had not been cleaned properly for some time. Moving on to the garden, a warning for people with young children or animals. There were a number of dangers. In particular, an old shed with a door missing and sharp hinges sticking out with screws in them. Also lying on the floor was an open bag of compost, together with a tin of fence stain and other items. Clearly if my dog had chewed on either, he would have been seriously ill. Also a large amount of metal objects and chicken wire sticking up by the shed. Dangers for dogs and children. I would not stay there again and feel the property is not worth the considerable cost we paid.

    Dear Christine, I am sorry that your stay wasn't all you had hoped. As you know we responded to your concerns about the oven and the cleaning team returned the following day. We did, in the end, engage a company to deep clean the oven. I am sorry that they may not have arrived during your stay. Certainly the ovens were safe to use, but I understand that people have different standards of cleanliness. I am sorry to hear about the other dirt and cobwebs you describe. It is slightly confusing as the cleaning team asked you if there was anything else at the time that needed to be addressed and this was not reported. I can't think why the cleaning team hadn't responded to the messages about the ice box in the fridge, but did you happen to see the large freezer in the utility room, next to the washer and dryer? Hopefully, that gave you enough space for your frozen goods. The gardener, who comes weekly, has since put away the items you mention in the shed. I am sorry if you felt your dog at risk. Thank you again for your feedback. It is important that people know this is our home and might have the odd rough edge, but it is exactly how it is listed on the site. We will always do everything we reasonably can to help people enjoy their stays. Property Owner

  • "A homely property in a nice rural but not too rural setting."

    Everything you need, especially in the kitchen. This has obviously been a much loved family home. Some fixtures and fittings are a little worn and shabby but it's a very comfortable stay with excellent sized rooms and a great garden. The view and all the birds & wildlife are lovely. Would stay there again.

  • "This is a really good property, we rented it for a family holiday and it didn't disappoint."

    We found it to be in a good place to see everything we wanted to see. The kitchen is fantastic, we spent most of our time in there, very well stocked with everything you would need if you were going to cook. We hope to visit again.

  • "Beautiful house."

    Very well stocked. And the most amazing kitchen. We didn’t sit in the lounge as spent all our time in here. Lots of games and books which we enjoyed. Really huge garden with seating and a bbq. We had a lovely family holiday and very handy for local walks and carisbrooke castle too

  • "We really enjoyed our stay, the cottage was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed."

    The location was convenient. During our visit, the adjoining property had a couple of loud parties with lots of people over and we did find some beer cans in our garden. This may have just been a one-off, but worth noting if you’re looking for total peace and quiet. Overall, though, we had a pleasant stay.

  • "Frosthill Cottage made for a perfect holiday with the family."

    Good size rooms with a large garden that the grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed. Great array of kids garden toys, games and indoor games for the whole family. Well equipped large kitchen. Overall a great place to stay. We can highly recommend this property for a family holiday. We are likely to stay again in the future.

  • "Located in a country lane, the photos are what you'll find."

    3-4 cars can park on the drive. Toys are available inside and outside which was great. Lovely to wake up to horses, sheep and rabbits in the fields daily. Great outdoor space. You will feel like you're participating in an escape room in the kitchen at first if you don't read the book to locate the cutlery drawer but the hob remained a challenge to get the desired temperature settings as we aren't used to an induction hob. We did have to Google instructions for use as none left. Utility room great for drying things. Given the price paid, the cleanliness could have been better in terms of dust and the bbq. The folding doors out onto the garden are lovely but with no blinds, it's sure to be hot in the summer.

  • "We had a lovely week in this very well equipped house."

    Great kitchen/living space. Fantastic garden and bbq area. Perfect for our two young granddaughters and our pet Labrador. A lovely peaceful setting but within easy reach of visitor attractions and beaches.

  • "A lovely spacious cottage with a large garden."

    Ideal for a family holiday, we loved the toys, games, art provisions and baking bowls/cutters for the children. There really was no need to go out! We felt that the bathrooms could do with updating as the showers were unpredictable especially when being used together. We were a little disappointed to find that the washing machine had water in when we went to use it but after draining it out it worked perfectly all week. Very clean and the basket of tea, coffee and biscuits was a nice addition.

  • "Really enjoyed our stay."

    Marked down on maintenance as there were nails protruding from the bath panel in family bathroom which had previously been reported and clear glass and no blind in the downstairs toilet. No instructions for Hi Tech cooking equipment. Would definately stay there again. Amazing garden and easy access to the castle.

    So pleased you enjoyed your stay. Bath panel had to be removed recently by a plumber. I have now ensured that all nails are flush. Fingers crossed 2025 will see a new bathroom! Noted about blind in the loo. We will sort that ASAP, although in such a rural location it is not overlooked by anyone. We will beef up our cooking instructions as well.   • "Only one wardrobe with hanging space in one bedroom wasn't really enough for 4 adults, using 2 bedrooms."

    The cottage was a little more remote than we expected it to be. An iron and ironing board would have been useful We had no instructions for either the hob and oven or the other appliances which would have been helpful.

    Rooms were all comfortable, kitchen was so well equipped and everything needed was thought of. We were a family of 5 and the children made use of the toys games and puzzles so thoughtful. Was like home from home thank you ☺️

Frosthill Cottage dates back to 1736 and thought to have been a yeoman’s cottage linked to King Henry 111 and is an ideal base for a family or a group of friends looking to stay in Carisbrooke, and explore the history and heritage of the Isle of Wight.

Best known for Carisbrooke Castle, a point of interest which has been all of an Elizabethan artillery fortress, a king's prison and a royal summer residence, this village is a wondrous base, with a variety of amenities to cater to all tastes.
