  • "A really comfortable cottage that is beautifully modern and tastefully decorated."

Our dog relaxed straight away. Strange entrance to the cottages as you drive through the outside hardstanding of a separate property. Maybe once the outside areas are finished, there will be a dedicated pathway to the cottages. Very quite surrounding area so a peaceful sleep.

  • "Please be advised that the laminate flooring is slippery."

This resulted in going to Dunelm in Newport to buy some runners. I accept that the flooring must adhere to Covid cleaning methods etc, but please be cautious if you are an elder or a dog owner.

  • "Cottage was lovely and clean, and even smelt clean when we arrived!"

The bed was comfortable, but our personal preference would have been for a lighter duvet. The settee and chair in the lounge area were not comfortable, and could have been improved by some cushions, but unfortunately these had been removed due to covid (not the owners fault). On returning home we noticed that the internal cottage photos on the Sykes web site for upstairs and the bathrooms appear to relate to No 6, and No 6 photos relate to No 5!

  • "Lovely location perfect for dogs."

The accomodation is spacious, clean and well designed. Can't think of anything that needs improvement. With the large shower room on the ground floor it's perfect for someone with limited mobility. We will certainly rebook the cottage.

  • "It's a lovely cottage, just not for us because we both have some mobility issues, which made the upstairs bed and the sofa a bit too low for us to get off of!"

we had to manage with the sofa, but spent the holiday sleeping in single beds. it's a fantastic spot though, very quiet and private, perfect for young families. the downstairs shower was great and parking not a problem. we are unlikely to stay again, but it's perfect for family, so I'd recommend ☆☆☆☆

  • "The cottage was lovely - shower and bath taps difficult to use and adjust for heat and using shower head in bathroom."

Location was good for scenic areas of island and Military Road. Investment in better mattress would be good. The discarded toys and other items around the entrance to the cottages did not give a good first impression and was a shame as otherwise could be beautiful. We have booked again for Easter as we enjoyed the island which are truly dog friendly - however some small incidences of intolerance from residents of the island experienced when travelling around the island.

Nice little touches such as coffee capsules, sugar, washing up liquid for us to use. Owner was friendly and helpful. Will definitely recommend to friends and will use again when in the Isle of Wight.

Very minor suggestions - toilet roll holders in both bathrooms, shower curtain in upstairs bathroom, longer flexes on bedside lamps.

  • "Great experience by any standard."

Great people, great location and outstanding value for money. The accommodation was spotless with help readily available whenever required. 5 Yarmouth is reservedly quiet and tranquil. Our boys were extremely happy and pushed for another week of stay. The neighbourhood is outrageously pleasant, and my boys always had local kids to play with whenever time allowed. The young lady looking after the property was exceedingly kind and helpful….I can’t wait to go back.

Freshwater is situated at the western tip of the Isle of Wight and consists of Freshwater Village and Freshwater Bay. Freshwater village offers a good selection of small independent shops, cafes and the West Wight Sports Centre and Indoor Swimming Pool. The magnificent high chalk cliffs, rolling downs and delightful beaches at Freshwater Bay and nearby Compton Bay attract many visitors and surfers all year round. The renowned Freshwater Bay Golf Club, which overlooks the English Channel has stunning coastal sea views from most tees and offers a superb day out for golfers of all abilities, whilst the area is a haven for birdwatchers, cyclists and walkers with many wonderful walks to be enjoyed not only on West Wight but across the entire Isle of Wight criss-crossing over a much varied island landscape. Locally, Afton Down (the location of the famous 1970 Isle of Wight Music Festival), and Tennyson Down are the most popular walks. The Needles Pleasure Park at Alum Bay with its coloured sand cliffs and chairlift to the beach is just south west of Freshwater, plus a little further afield on the north coast of the Isle of Wight is the premier yachting centre of Cowes. Osborne House (the former home of Queen Victoria) is located at East Cowes. The nearby Farringford Hotel on the edge of Freshwater Bay was once the home of the British Poet Laureate, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and many notable poets, authors and painters have been attracted to the area of West Wight over the years. With the seaside town of Yarmouth close by with its busy harbour and pier, shops, inns, eateries and impressive Tudor castle, this is an ideal base for an enjoyable holiday.
