  • "The house was fine, but looking as if it needs a refresh at the end of the season."

The light next to the bed in the top bedroom didn't work, nor did the blind in that bathroom and the cistern in the top bathroom needs attention as the button didn't always come back up and it would waste a lot of water, but these are easy fixes if the owner is aware (I shall send them a text). I also think a toilet brush in each toilet is a good policy, and I would like to have had some recycling facility - we brought our recycling home with us in the end. For the rest, though, the house suited our purposes perfectly, lovely location, quiet situation, beach 5 minutes walk. We would happily go back there again. Many thanks Simon

  • "You describe this property as a "well-presented detached lodge"."

It is in fact an end-of-terrace house with the small garden backing onto a main road. There was no dishwasher (yes I know this was not included in the details, but I assumed this was an oversight); no recycling facilities; lack of serving dishes, knives etc. in kitchen; no mirrors, loo brushes, bins in bedrooms and bathrooms on middle floor. The carpets could do with a good clean and the whole house could do with a coat of paint. the top shower room has mould/damp patches inside and out the shower cubicle which looked very unpleasant.

  • "The property is in a great location for exploring the west side of the island."

The bed we used was comfortable as was the settee in the living room. Some of the pans are in need of replacing but there is everything you need in the kitchen. The property is in need of painting throughout but this doesn't spoil your stay. We stayed for 2 weeks and a change of towels would have been appreciated especially as there is no reduction for the second week. We would have liked to recycle but this wasn't an option as there was only 1 bin. The neighbours are very friendly. We would overall recommend a stay at this property.

  • "Well located but a lack of comfortable 'lounge' seating, dim lighting and being very basically equipped make this something of an uncomfortable place to stay."

There are also previous reviews citing the lack of comfortable seating and this is still the case as of October 2020.

  • "Seating not so comfortable and couple chair legs look if going to break ."

This was mentiomed in the guest book but doesnt look like anything done about it . also shortage if mirrors in 3 bedrooms

Thanks for your feedback. We have added more comfortable seats to the lounge area. There are now seven seats that should suit all types of seating required from comfort to sturdy. Extra mirrors added. Many thanks Property Owner

  • "Lovely property but not big enough for 6 people!"

Couldn’t use the garden - too much traffic noise! Too many ants! Not enough comfortable seating for 6 in the lounge! Maybe could do with another 3 seater sofa. Oven was not very good in the kitchen! And too many ants!!! All over the kitchen - even in the kettle! The bedrooms and bathrooms were lovely and location was amazing!

  • "Great house and location for getting about the island."

A dishwasher and bigger bed on top floor would make it perfect!

  • "The garden was very small - we expected something slightly larger and we couldn't use the outside table and chairs because they were covered in ants."

About the location

YARMOUTH

Newport 12 miles; Ryde 18 miles.

The attractive seaside town of Yarmouth is the oldest town on the Isle of Wight, and its busy harbour is a haven for all kinds of watercraft, with the terminal used for regular mainland ferry crossings to Lymington. Yarmouth’s narrow streets are home to an attractive array of shops and inns, whilst a visit to Henry VIII’s castle is not to be missed. There's great cycling (and a cycle hire shop) and walking to be had along the coastal path. Why not take an energetic stroll at the nearby Tennyson Down and Headon Warren. Sandhard beach is 15 minutes' walk away, with Colwell Bay with its sandy beach and amenities for the family 7 minutes away by car. Yarmouth's pier and sailing club jetty is another good spot for crabbing. Four miles away is Compton Bay, famous for dinosaur remains; head there at low tide and see if you can find the two enormous three-toed feet. West Wight is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Yarmouth is an ideal base from which to explore this wonderful island.
