Port Side

The reason I keep returning is that the location is perfect and the accommodation has everything I need with the added bonus of a great cafe next door.

And nor forgetting the island is very dog friendly! Highly recommended!

We had the best holiday in a long while.

John was super friendly. Great location, with everything we needed. Will definitely go back and recommend.

Lovely setting right on the shoreline.

We’ve been 6 times and wouldn’t change now. The owner is a lovely man and nothing is too much trouble. Recommend.

We had a wonderful week.

Great location with stunning waterside views. Yarmouth 20 minute walk away with some great pubs. We took our four legged friend and lots of walks all on the doorstep. Good sized Tesco’s a short drive away and a great Indian takeaway. Accommodation was just as advertised. Would recommend to anybody.

Lovely location but the unit inside is very tired.

The bed has two mattresses on it that gives you the feeling of falling out and very uncomfortable The chair and sofa have the wrong cushion seats in which do not fit and slide out. Behind the bathroom sink the pipes are full of dust…. You’re paying for the location not the comfort… it’s a shame as they could be lovely inside. I was glad to get home and have a nice sleep on a comfortable mattress And the water is very very hot there needs to be a sign saying this as you can burn yourself on it

Lovely location, couldn’t wish for better.

This was our 2nd stay at Portside. Have already booked again Accommodation dated but adequate and clean, the sofa, arm chair and cushions however definitely past their best - dirty and smelly. Took our own throws this time to avoid sitting direct on sofas. John the owner pleasant and helpful. The cafe next door is fab run by the loviest two ladies.

Portside is right on the beach with a fabulous sea view.

There’s a friendly cafe next door and a gentle walk into the lovely little town of Yarmouth. It’s a really short drive from the ferry too!

Wonderful week staying in Portside.

.! John, the owner showed me around the property when I checked in. Immaculately clean, comfortable bed with cosy bed linen. Very handy outside chairs provided, every thing you could need in the kitchen. Cafe next door, fantastic location on the beach, with soectacular views of the Solent. Have booked with Sykes to come back to Portside next summer ! Thank you.

Our 2nd stay at Port Side, with our 3rd already booked.

Lovely, functional studio apartment situated right on the beach. Level 15 min walk into Yarmouth, where you will find all your essentials from super-friendly shopkeepers. 10 minute drive (or less) to Tesco & Sainsbury’s. Freshwater bay & Military Road 15 minutes drive. The perfect location to relax and take it easy. John the owner is very helpful. The girls in the cafe next door are the nicest people ever. No hesitation to recommend.

Had a lovely stay at portside perfect setting right on the beach lovely dog walks beach side cafe great girls brilliant .

The only thing I would criticise is maybe needs a hit more attention to the cleaning .Apart from that looking forward to going back in future

Enjoyed the break shame about the weather but not your fault.

We have enjoyed 4/5 happy holidays at No 2 Portside.

The situation couldn't be better. Lots to see, do, find on the Island. Bed not the comfiest and furniture tired. John is a friendly, helpful owner.

A few more bits of kitchenware would have been nice, and leaflets for us to look at for places of interest to visit.

Apart from this we had a nice relaxing time and will come back again.

Another fab week at Portside.

Warm and comfortable, lovely peaceful location. The cafe is not open at this time of year. Thank you John, hopefully see you next year

We loved our stay at Portside, you won’t get a better Sea view for your money than here!

You’re so close to the sea, it was perfect! The property its self is basic, but had everything we needed as a base to explore the island, the bed was comfy and all electrical items worked well. Not a negative at all for us, but I feel it should be mentioned for future guests, the books, games/ dvds mentioned in the description, there were none, not a problem for us. The TV is the size of a postage stamp, again not a problem with that magnificent view behind it! And we didn’t realise we needed to bring our own towels, a quick trip to Asda was needed on our way, as we were told this by the owner when calling about key collection, again no problem, all minor things for us! We would most definitely book again!

Had all essential's.

Great location with the beach outside door

A few suggestions: Please provide a jug and egg cups, and a few more mugs.

A bistro set of table and chairs for taking outdoors would also be lovely, as we went with our family who stayed upstairs and we enjoyed sitting outside together. We had brought our outdoor chairs but had to bring the dining chairs outside as well to accommodate everyone. Please note in the info, or on a sign, that the hot water is extremely hot! A loose net curtain with a weighted hem, fixed up over the door, would also be helpful, as we had a bit of a problem with mosquitoes getting in and biting us at night. Other than these suggestions, the bed was very comfortable, the place was nice and clean and the setting was delightful. We would certainly consider coming again.

An apartment in a fabulous location.

Very simply provided for so don’t expect luxury, but a comfortable bed and a comfortable sofa to watch the boats through big French doors. Simple but adequate cooking facilities. A huge success! I have already booked for next year!

Another great week in this beautiful part of the island, in a well-equipped and comfortable apartment.

Perfect for a relaxing holiday!

The studio is basic but wonderfully located and surrounded by excellent dog walks.

The nearest shops are in Yarmouth but the nearest supermarket is in Freshwater. The shop mentioned in the studio details was not open while I was there and the cafe is not open in the evening. There were also no books or games , again as mentioned in the details. A bedside table would be useful as the shelf behind the bed can be awkward to use. Dog owners should be aware that there is a busy, at times very busy, public path between the patio and the shingle shore. There is no barrier to prevent interaction between your dog and many others using the path. Ventilation is provided by a small window and double patio doors. On a hot day it is almost impossible to have a coolish studio and a happy dog as the latter must be restrained in some way. It is, however, a great place to stay and good value for the money.

I don’t think there is a better location for a cost-effective break on this beautiful island.

Right on the shingle beach. Exquisite sunsets over the old jetty and Fort Victoria. Walking distance to Yarmouth and country parks. Studio apartment is functional and tidy. Fabulous cafe next door. Very sad to leave on home day so we have just booked 2 weeks for next summer! Highly recommended.

Excellent location.

Dog walking on the doorstep. Would stay again if returning to the Isle of Wight.

Lovely little studio with great views.

John couldn’t be more helpful. Our third stay at Portside and we will be back.

Property is in a lovely location right on the beach.

We have stayed here previously but on this occasion the property was beginning to look tired. There were cobwebs on the light fittings and hair and dust on and under the bed. The place could do with a deep clean.

This is the perfect location, with a well-equipped apartment facing the sea and a cafe next door with welcoming staff (who also keep my dog happy with treats!

) The place is ideal for relaxing and gentle strolls by the sea, with easy access for exploring the island. I'm so glad I found these apartments, which is the reason I return every year - and my dog loves it too!

What a wonderful location, best we have stayed in on the Isle of Wight, the boathouse was comfortable and met our needs, there two things not working correctly the fridge light did not come on when we opened the door, wasn’t sure if it was working!

The rechargeable torch did not work either. I feel there could be a couple of improvements; a pint of milk in the fridge on arrival would be a nice touch and a television would be useful as the one at the boathouse is a bit on the small side. But overall a good couple of days with lots of walking, two tired humans and a dog when we left.

We had a wonderful 4 nights staying in Port Sde!

Absolutely perfect location and right on the beach. Light and airy accommodation with all you need. Cafe next door which did amazing breakfasts and the staff really warm and welcoming. John the owner of the accommodation was so welcoming and allowed us to move in early on the day of arrival. We absolutely loved our stay and enjoyed walking along the shingle beach and watching the cruise ships at night, you can lay in bed watching the sea via the patio doors. We loved walking into Yarmouth and had a lovely meal at The Terrace followed by ice cream in the beautiful Pier. So much to see and visit including the Garlic Farm , Alum Bay and The Needles. A really beautiful area and Portside is an absolute gem to find and stay in. Highly recommend this property.

couldn't fault it - we went in winter and enjoyed the quietness and the view over the solent.

great little base for a couple with a dog

The location of this apartment was just as described - superb.

The room was lovely and warm and everything clean - all you could need was provided for. We would definitely like to visit again, and hopefully tie it in with the café bistro being open. I would highly recommend and thank John for the right level of hospitality.

Third stay and will be back again.

John brilliant as always.

A fabulous property right on the beach.

Very clean and well equipped.

Great place for a holiday lovely views close to all the routes round the Island, and great cafes next door good breakfast to start your day.

had a great week at the boathouse… had a great week at the boathouse apartment's.

Yarmouth Isle of Wight. the restaurant next-door are very welcoming and dog friendly. the apartment was clean and Tiedey . [ To lite pints the tv is small and to high up with bad signal and the extra-fans in the kitchen and bathroom sill not working ] A great place to stay with a 15-20 minite walk to bus stop will be going back a gane. thank to john and the team for a great stay Date of experience :27 August - 03 September 2022

Fabulous.

Our heaven on earth. Stayed many times. John is such a lovely owner and so helpful. Best place on earth. Sykes very helpful too.

Port Side has all that I need for a holiday, which is the reason I return each year.

I cannot think of a better place for relaxing with my dog, in a well-equipped apartment, enjoying the sea air on our walks and taking in the beauty of this place!

Property location superb, had everything needed for comfortable stay.

Negative was the cleanliness of the property, bathroom sink had to be cleaned before use as it had black tide mark around basin. Bottom front edge of Fridge needed cleaning. Kitchen utensils had to be washed before use. The patio area was great but a dividing wall between it and the next property would be good.

A fantastic property right on the beach, very clean and comfortable.

Would thoroughly recommend Port Side and definitely consider returning. Thank you John for a lovely week.

John the owner was very nice and allowed us into the property early.

It was very clean and had everything we needed right on the beach the position of the property is perfect. Only one problem THE BED it was the most uncomfortable one we have ever slept in. The mattress is very thin and the bed frame creaked and groaned every time you turned over. Looking through the visitor book people have been complaining about this bed since April 2017. Come on John please change it.

It was a lovely spot by the sea the flat itself was fine apart from the bed was rubbish when you moved the noise from the bed was awful and the mattress not fit for purpose.

Also the TV was so small and mounted on the wall it was not good. If those 2 things were put right it would be a great place to stay.

I have used Sykes Cottages for several years to book my holiday in the Isle of Wight.

I'm very satisfied with the quality of the service and the high standard of the accommodation and have no hesitation in recommending them.

Lovely cottage with beautiful view.

Absolutely fab place, heaven on earth.

John the owner is brilliant, so helpful. Very comfortable. Everything you need. Stunning situation. Lovely little bistro attached. Doggies very welcome

Fantastic location .

The bed is really uncomfortable.

A lovely little single story holiday home with stunning sea views across the solent.

A charming little cafe selling good food and drink next door too. This was our 3rd stay here and we've already booked to go back next year

This was my sixth visit to the apartments and my fifth to Port Side.

The reason for returning is the location (5 minutes from Yarmouth), the facilities in the accommodation (which also faces the sea) and the helpfulness of the owner, the warm welcome at the cafe next door (with a varied menu) and the fact that the island is dog friendly!

Wonderful beach location the beach is on the door step Yarmouth only ten minutes walk away ideal base for visiting the Isle of Wight the boathouse was basic but suited our needs the only thing that lets this down is the television is very small and too high to watch comfortably

Easy to park.

Greeted upon arrival by John the owner. Stunning views of the Solent. 10 minute walk into Yarmouth centre. Buses can take you all round the island for a week for approx. £25 pp including the open top which is fab. Felt very welcomed by the owner who was lovely and really wanted us to enjoy our time there. The dog friendliness and superb hospitality we received was outstanding. Newport is a short ride on the bus or by car and has most supermarkets and shops (including M&S) and lots of dog friendly inns etc. The Bargeman's rest on the Quayside for us was brilliant and we got to know a few locals in a very short time. The beer garden to the back of the Royal George in Yarmouth is breath-taking and across the road almost at the Bugle Inn we enjoyed a great Sunday roast in particular. We enjoyed great sleeps in a lovely comfy bed listening to the sea and the apartment was so well insulated that we did not need to put the heater on at all even. Lovely piping hot water for the shower left us feeling good to go. We took the ferry from Lymington to Yarmouth and when we arrived the apartment was literally a few minutes drive away which was an added bonus. Our only regret is that we went for 1 week we should have booked 2 weeks and will do next time we visit. Missing the place already. Thank you to everyone it was brilliant.

The apartment (close to Yarmouth) is well-equipped and is ideal for a restful and relaxing break and also in a good location for exploring the island by car.

The bistro next door is highly recommended (especially the Sunday carvery!) Well-behaved dogs are welcome and the island generally is very dog-friendly where they are allowed in some pubs and cafes.

Your brochures says towels included, you only need to bring beach towels.

However, towels weren't included and so you need to correct your details. The owner, Mr Brady, offered to supply some, but we have family living on the island and so were able to borrow some.

Where the apartment was situated!

! Right on the beach and in a beautiful area. Yarmouth was a perfect place to explore!!

A place to love, enjoy peace, have your dog with you and spend your time right on the beach.

Clean and comfortable. A*

What a way to see new year in BBQ and fire on beach watching fireworks on mainland.

Ideal location

A fantastic beach side retreat.

Peaceful situation, perfect layout inside, with everything I needed for my stay.

Wonderful location ideal for dog owners and for people who just want to chill out.

My husband is partially disabled and found that the accommodation was perfect, and was able to sit on the patio and watch the world go by.

The location of Port Side is perfect for me as I like to fish, couldn't be any nearer to the beach.

There are some good restaurants in the area. WiFi could be better the signal from the Cafe next door was weak.

Incredible location ,right on the beach.

Very peaceful ,the only sound at night being the sigh of waves and the tolling of a bell on a buoy out in the channel. The property was comfortable and warm and very clean. Our neighbours on both sides were lovely, as were their dogs. Our elderly collie enjoyed his morning strolls along the beach and up to the Fort. No need for a lead as no traffic. Wonderful.

The apartment is well-equipped and in an ideal location overlooking the sea and with easy access to the rest of the island.
