  • "This property had everything you could possibly want for a break away from home."

The lovely owners just next door were very helpful and left us with a wonderful box of necessities and a fridge packed with goodies so that we didn't need to immediately pop to the supermarket. Based in an ideal location and just small walk to Shanklin shops and old village. Had a lovely time, was made to feel very welcome and would definitely recommend.

  • "Fantastic little cottage a real home from home."

Everything and more is supplied so you need only yourself to open the door begin a great holiday. Our hosts were really lovely and they made us feel like part of the community we didn't want to leave. Shanklin is a lovely base to stay on this lovely island. We'll definitely be back next year.

  • "We had a lovely holiday and thought the cottage was absolutely wonderful."

It was spotlessly clean and so well equipped. Thank you to the hosts for going to so much trouble to make the stay perfect. The welcome pack was so generous and thoughtful. We inadvertently brought an umbrella home with us which we’ll post back to the owners next week and left some dog food in the cupboard - Rebus says please give to a doggy you know as it’s very tasty!! Thanks again for a wonderful holiday - we’ll hopefully be back next year. Julia, Alethea, Graham and Rebus the dog.

  • "Lovely cottage in a good location within short walking distance of local shops, bars & restaurants, park for morning dog walks, beach (10 minute walk) and bus stop (the IOW has a brilliant bus service)."

The standard is excellent with great attention to detail of everything that you may need. Best equipped cottage we have stayed in and were made very welcome by the owners who provided a lovely substantial welcome pack. It has off street parking which is essential but the downside is that it makes the garden a little small. It was a perfect size for the two of us and large dog but would say that the property would be a little small for 4 adults/2 couples. We would definitely recommend or stay again if visiting the IOW. Thank you Bob, Jacqui and Beth.

  • "May Cottage was just perfect!"

Spotlessly clean, comfortable, perfect base for exploring the island. Jacqui had thought of absolutely everything. The property was so well equipped and had beautiful decor to make the most comfortable week away. We have stayed in many dog friendly cottages and I have to say this has been the best! The welcome gifts for us and our fur babies was greatly appreciated too. Well done Bob, Jacqui and Beth. We would highly recommend and will definitely be returning again next year.

The hosts who live next door are two of the nicest people you would wish to meet. Absolutely everything you could want was provided right down to a very comprehensive welcome pack along with a bottle of wine. This was the most spotlessly clean rental we have had out of many sykes cottages. I will definitely be recommending this cottage to friends and family. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

  • "May Cottage is a first class property with the highest standards hard to match elsewhere."

Everything we needed was thought of and provided. We appreciated the brilliant welcome pack too. The owners Bob and Jackie were on hand for a lovely greeting as well as for info and support. Turned out our scaredy dog couldn’t cope with the wooden floor and they found an extra rug for the kitchen. Otherwise she might have spent the entire holiday on the doormat! And we could not have got through the week without the concern and help from these wonderful owners after my husband and I became unwell. Thank you so very very much.

  • "Beautiful cottage, with space for one car to park off the road."

Very well decorated and so clean. I was not expecting it but enjoyed an extensive welcome pack. Kitchen facilities were above and beyond comfortable so I wanted for nothing. The shower room is on the ground floor. A utility room houses a washing machine and tumble dryer. A cosy sitting room with a television, books, board games and music. The two bedrooms both had televisions, the single room had a toilet and washbasin. Thought had gone into providing facilities for my dog too, a bed for him and feeding bowls, even a welcome pack! There is a gate from the road into a secure courtyard with a water hose so that sand can be washed off any dog before they enter the cottage. (I had packed so much for my dog, that he didn't need!). I hope to return very soon.

  • "The most well equipped holiday cottage we have ever stayed in."

I am really particular about where we stay but this exceeded anywhere we have stayed in before. I was a bit hesitant as I think there was only one review due to it being so new but so glad I took a chance. So well equipped and thought out. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a full dinner if you were so inclined. Husband thought he had found something that they had forgotten but there it was in the utility cupboard, a fan. They noticed that the dog beds would be a bit small for our dogs so another one was bought round. Lovely welcome basket, eggs, butter, orange juice, wine, milk, sure there were other things, as well as a doggy welcome bag for both of the dogs. Cannot think of anything negative. Owners live next door and were very friendly and helpful. There is a park a few minutes walk away for the dogs also just a few minutes walk from Main Street. Don't know what else to say except that we would not hesitate to stay at May Cottage again. On another note can completely recommend the Yarbridge for dinner. Thank you for a lovely stay.

  • "We had a great week's stay at May Cottage!"

Everything was beautifully clean and the cottage was equipped with absolutely everything we could possibly need. Our kind hosts (who live next door to the cottage) had also left some thoughtful extra provisions for when we arrived (juice, croissants, wine and Magnums, as well as the more standard bread and milk) and were very helpful, for example, when we needed to find a local garage. We really enjoyed exploring the local beaches and had fun in Shanklin visiting Jurassic Jim and eating out in various cafes and restaurants (great milkshakes in Cinders, lovely breakfast in the Lime Tree, and a family friendly meal out in Pavarotti's). All in all, it was a wonderful holiday, thanks very much!

About the location

SHANKLIN

The town of Shanklin on the Isle of Wight is a traditional seaside resort, sitting in a sheltered, sunny bay on the south-east coast of the island. Shanklin and Sandown offer all the right ingredients for a great summer holiday, with long, safe, sandy beaches and loads of family attractions, such as a zoo, pier and fairground, plus shops, restaurants, pubs and clubs. The older part of Shanklin, known as Shanklin Old Village, is set slightly lower than the town, where the road winds between traditional thatched cottages, tea shops and charming gardens and parks. Explore Shanklin Chine, a dramatic gorge with a waterfall tumbling through lush plants and mossy boulders. At the top of the cliff is the bustling High Street of shops and the grand Victorian theatre, at the bottom there are cafes, shops and amusements along the suntrap esplanade and sandy beach. Shanklin is great starting point for numerous coastal and inland walks (with the option to return using the local bus network).
