  • "Sykes really need to offer reduced ferry fares - a lot of other companies do."

    Our second year at Topsails and we had a lovely time. Spacious accommodation and of good quality. For the size though it really needs to offer a second bathroom and the kitchen needs a re-vamp although it has everything needed. For the cost of the week I would have thought loo rolls, dishwasher tabs and kitchen roll and towels could have been included. But thank you for the dog biscuits. We couldn’t get the gas fire to light

    We’re so glad you had another nice stay at Topsails. Thank you for your comments, which are similar to those you made when you previously stayed at Topsails last year. We are happy to repeat our previous response: i. Discounted ferry fares are available to all Topsails’ guests as stated on Sykes’ website and via email following your confirmation of booking. We gave you the same information when you left feedback on this matter last year. Other guests have contacted us to say they have been able to secure considerable discounts using the information provided. ii. Every guest receives a welcome pack containing the following: Island roasted coffee, Island tea, sugar, biscuits, prosecco, milk, 4 toilet rolls (2 in each lavatory), hand soap, miniature toiletries, 2 towels per guest (and more provided upon request), dishwasher tablets (we always leave a spare box under the sink), washing up liquid, new dishcloth, scourer, tea towel, oven cloth, bin bags. Topsails is a self catering holiday home and as with any other self catering accommodation, guests cater for themselves, as we politely pointed out last year when you gave the same comments. iii. Any problems regarding the gas fire should have been reported straightaway so an engineer could have come out and fixed it during your stay. This is made clear in Sykes’ booking conditions s19. We had no opportunity to rectify this matter during your stay which we would have done immediately had you reported it. Notifying us for the first time about this in a public review is unfortunate and contrary to Sykes’ Customer Review Policy. Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful stay and were blessed with beautiful weather."

    We were just a stone's throw away from the coastal path, with wonderful walks. We hardly used the car. There are loads of footpaths to explore in the area, which our two dogs enjoyed. The facilities were great, although we did buy a washing-up bowl for the kitchen, and a vanity unit and chest of drawers would be useful in the main bedroom. I just used the spare bedroom, but if there had been more of us, it might have been difficult. Otherwise, a perfect stay and we were sorry to leave.

    . Owners were incredibly helpful before we arrived and appreciated the arrival pack. A very well equipped and spacious property.. just a short walk from the sea. Enjoyed running down to the Needles each morning…

  • "We had a relaxing half-term stay at Topsails."

    The house is clean, well furnished, beds were comfortable, there are clear instructions on heating etc (it was good to arrive to a warm house after a long rainy drive down to the Island!) and excellent communication from the owner. Great location - 100m from the sea - on a quiet road (in October). Swimming from the beach is good (best spot is in the curve after the blue surf shack). Enjoyed lunch at the Smoking Lobster (Ventnor), tea at the Rabbit Hole Bookshop & Cafe (School Green Rd, Freshwater) and dinner at the Hut. First visit to the Island and would highly recommend it and Topsails!

    . In a well situated area ,1 minute walk to sea the views are spectacular, deffinatly will be going back ...the owner was lovely ,did have a small issue and it was delt with immediately. Thankyou for a lovely week

  • "This house is amazing, clean, spacious, comfy beds, and only a few steps from the most amazing beach."

    I visited with my children, husband, sister and parents and there was more than enough room for us all. The garden is wonderful, the perfect place to relax on a hot summers day. My only suggestion for a future improvement would be to add in a extra bathroom. However, I definitely recommend this place, its excellent value for money and I will try to book it again if we ever come back to the IOW.

  • "We had a lovely time in the house and the location was great -1 minute from the beach."

    Comfortable beds, beautifully clean and the space was generous for us all. A couple of things would have been handy, such a sieve and a washing up bowl ( we had a baby with us and could have used one) , but a friendly neighbour lent us one thanks for a lovely stay

  • "Topsails is a great property to stay at."

    Although close to Colwell bay we never had any issues with noise day or night. It has great layout and all the equipment you'll ever never inside and out. The only issue we had was the master bed is very low, the wooden supports need to be screwed down and the mattress needs to be replaced. If these were rectified we would definitely return.

  • "We had a really lovely time at Topsails."

    Despite the amenities at Colwell Bay being closed during our stay, we really enjoyed the short stroll to the beach at low tide, did lots of fossil hunting and enjoyed the beautiful house. It was very homely and had lots of lovely books and games to borrow. The heating was left on for us and a nice welcome pack too, even doggie treats. I think the only thing we missed was a potato masher (it is so well equipped) and we found the tv temperamental. I would definitely recommend this property. Nice enclosed garden for dogs and children and everyone very friendly. We had a great time thank you and would be wonderful to stay here at any time of the year.

  • "We had a wonderful week here even though the weather was not to good."

    The house is spotlessly clean. So many rooms, wonderful dining room, lovely comfortable living room, but the best is the conservatory so much light, lovely and warm when the sun shines we used the room for reading and games and jigsaws puzzles. The garden is fully fenced off so your dogs can go outside without having to worry about them. You have everything you need in the kitchen to make meals. The beach is two minutes walk away. There were only two of us and we used the double bedroom which had plenty of storage I peeped into the other three bedrooms and they were all lovely wonderful for a large family. If you want a luxury home for a lovely holiday choose this house.

Totland Bay is an idyllic coastal bay resting between Alum Bay and Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. The bay is well-known for its sand and shingle beach which offers superb views of the mainland and sunsets, and offers an interesting selection of attractions, including the Warden Point Battery, the Old Lifeboat Station, clifftop walks, The Needles Landmark Attraction and the National Trust Needles Old and New Battery’s. Dining options include fresh seafood at The Hut, British and Mediterranean at The Waterfront Bar & Restaurant, and fresh fish and chips from Totties, while you can stock up on essentials at the well-stocked convenience stores. Within easy reach of the bay is Freshwater, where you will find the further attractions and amenities of Farringford Historic House and Gardens, Dimbola Museum & Galleries, and Freshwater Bay Golf Club.
