“We (my sister and I plus our two dogs) had a wonderful stay in Jasmine.”

What a great place off the beaten track and good walks right on the doorstep. We felt very much at home! Also so much to explore in the area, and the landscape around is really interesting with all its watery history. Fabulous. I hope we’ll be able to come back soon.

This fabulously renovated barn conversion now offers eight guests two lovely dwellings, located on an idyllic, private vineyard, from which to discover the surrounding beauty. Both properties share access to the fantastic double tennis courts, with Jasmine Cottage boasting a woodburning stove and Honeysuckle Cottage offering ground-floor living with an elegant ground-floor four-poster bedroom. If you can tear yourself away from these wonderful properties, venture into the village, where you will find a shop for picking up any essentials, as well as Hunts Hill Organic Orchards for picking up fresh, local produce, whilst a vast array of pubs serving food can be found slightly further afield in the likes of Iden, Stone-in-Oxney and Peamarsh. Alternatively, travel to one of England’s best kept secrets, the town of Rye, and look forward to meandering the cobbled lanes filled with ancient inns, including 11th century Mermaid Inn, where you can stop off for refreshments before visiting the Castle Museum, where you can learn about its varied history and climb to the towers to enjoy the views over the town and out to the river Rother estuary. From here, you can walk along the shoreline of Camber Beach or spend the day in the historical town of Hastings, home to ruins of a castle, a three-mile long seafront, unique double-decker promenade and the pretty Grosvenor Gardens, there is certainly plenty of things to do here. Keen walkers can look forward to exploring the number of walks in the area, including the four-miles long walk which takes in the famous sights of Battle Abbey and the 1066 battlefield or the five-mile walk beginning at Stonegate and taking you through villages, rolling landscapes and parklands. Other attractions include the 14th century Bodiam Castle, Sissinghurst Castle Garden and the Kent & East Sussex Railway. Enjoying a countryside position in East Sussex and located just yards away from the border of Kent is the small village of Iden. The pretty village plays host to around 400 friendly residents as well as a welcoming pub, which serves food and real ale. The village, which overlooks the Rother Levels, also has a church, a hairdressers and a riding school, in addition to the village shop where you can pick up everything from dry cleaning to lottery tickets. As you meander through the village, you will discover the 15th century hall house ’Oxenbridge’ and is by far the oldest building, as well as many typical ‘Kentish’ style brock cottages branching off the main road, making this a truly charming location. With its location in the High Weald AONB, you can don your walking boots and explore the numerous footpaths and lanes taking you across the countryside and down to the Royal Military Canal. Slightly further afield is the small town of Rye, which is considered to be one of England’s best-kept secrets. This well-preserved medieval town hosts picturesque houses, cobbled lanes, ancient inns and a castle, which has a varied history with roles including defence, private home, prison, mortuary and now museum. Be sure to take the time to climb the castle tower to soak up the views over the town and out to the river Rother estuary before heading to the coastline to enjoy a walk along the beach. Camber Sands is located 6.5 miles away from the village and is a glorious two-mile stretch of sand dunes, plus opportunity for watersports. Also within driving distance is the seaside town of Hastings, where you will find ruins of a castle, a three-mile seafront and a town centre packed with amenities and things to do. With so much to do within the area, Iden makes a wonderful base for touring.
