  • "Gingerbread cottage is very comfortable and spacious in a quiet location within easy reach of the centre."

It was immaculately clean and beautifully furnished. Barbra was very welcoming and helpful both before and during our stay. Easily one of the best holiday cottages we’ve stayed in.

  • "This place is well above 5 star accommodation, everything you can possibly think of is there for your stay."

Barbra is the perfect home manager, we had a home made cake, cookies, brownies bottle of wine. Also a cocktail, with even the fresh lemon for twists. Can not fault this property one bit, and we stay in similar places a lot. Will defiantly be passing on recommendation. Well done Barbra for all your hard work, and thanks to the owners for sharing their gorgeous home. Catherine and Russel ~ 26/01/2024

  • "Gingerbread Cottage is simply amazing and one of the best cottages we have stayed in."

We arrived in the dark and the house was lit by some fairy lights on the front door and further Christmas decorations in the garden. We had a cosy feel about the cottage straight away. Inside we were greeted by a welcome hamper consisting of a home-made cake (plus hidden sixpence since we stayed over New Year's Eve), sparklers, a bottle of bubbly and a greeting card. I must say that I have rarely experienced so much attention to detail. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need, the bathrooms (one upstairs, one downstairs) each have a spacious and hot shower, the livingroom has cosy sofas around the fireplace with wonderful views into the garden. The bedrooms are just beautiful and the beds super comfy. The cottage is a 7-minute walk from Canterbury's city centre, but situated in a quiet residential street. I cannot praise the work and love Barbra puts into maintaining the highest standard of hospitality at Gingerbread Cottage highly enough. We can't wait to visit again.

  • "A fantastic Christmas in Gingerbread Cottage!"

We could not have asked for anything more. The cottage was absolutely gorgeous (and immaculate) and so wonderfully decorated by Barbra for Christmas. The tree was incredible! There were so many lovely touches and very generous home made treats which we very much enjoyed. We had such a wonderful, memorable family Christmas and we cannot thank Barbra enough for making it so perfect for us. Thank you! x

Really appreciated all the little extras and Christmas decorations. Spotless property, warm, cosy , decorated beautifully and perfectly located. Really close to the town centre and Barbara was really helpful. We will definitely be returning in the new year.

  • ""Perfect" is the only way we can describe our 4 week stay at Gingerbread Cottage."

The layout of the cottage offered great lighting and comfortable space throughout with easy access to the garden via a large glass sliding door. The very modern kitchen was designed for flow and function. The cottage was immaculate, the rooms spacious, and the large walk-in shower was totally luxurious. Location to everywhere in Canterbury and only about a 15 minute walk to the supermarket and our favorite restaurants. Barbra is wonderful and a Super Host who made sure we had everything we needed including helpful instructions and suggestions which made our stay uncomplicated and most enjoyable. These superlatives just don't feel adequate in describing our experience. We plan to book at least 6 weeks next year and Gingerbread Cottage is one of the reasons we're coming back to Canterbury.

We have not been disappointed with any of them but this one was the best! The attention to detail to make us feel welcome was second to none. The decoration, presentation, cleanliness and facilities of the cottage were perfect. It was very comfortable and provided an excellent base to explore Canterbury and Kent. We would love to go back one day.

  • "Excellent property, very tastefully decorated and extremely well equipped."

Within walking distance of all amenities and the city of Canterbury. If you don't want to use the car, the rail station is only a short walk away - we didn't use the car once! We met Barbara, the Property Manager, when we arrived, and she was extremely helpful; she sorted out our parking permits - please note that you need to contact Barbara and not Sykes Cottages to arrange permits as this was not made clear when Sykes sent us their email. Barbara had also left us some yummy treats which went down extremely well after a long day travelling - thank you so much Barbara, you made our day!! The only complaint we have about the cottage is that we had to leave to come home.

Idyllically positioned in a peaceful cul-de-sac, in the desirable Saint Dunstan's area of Canterbury, in Kent, rests this contemporary two-bedroom holiday home, Gingerbread Cottage.

Boasting a homely and welcoming interior and enjoying close proximity to a host of amenities and attractions, Gingerbread Cottage makes the perfect place for exploring the delights of this sought-after region.

Park up on the roadside and enter this delightful dwelling through its ‘front’ door, located on the right side of this cleverly designed and inviting home.

The hallway, stylishly adorned with Victorian tiles, leads you into the open-plan living/dining room, where you can look forward to gathering together at the rustic dining table to indulge in the fruits of your labour before snuggling up in front of the glow of the wood-burning stove, or settling down for a movie marathon, courtesy of the Smart TV.

From the snug step into the contemporary kitchen, beautifully appointed with an elegant blue décor and full granite worktops, fitted with a range of fantastic facilities including a handy dishwasher and washing machine.

In the warmer months, carry the conversation outdoors with a sociable seat amongst the greenery of your private garden, a truly tranquil spot to soak in the last of the evening sun with your favourite tipple.

When day draws to night, climb the stairs to the first floor where you'll find the family bathroom and two double bedrooms, each thoughtfully positioned under the vaulted ceiling, providing a wonderfully airy ambiance.

In the morning, kick-start your day with an invigorating rinse in the spacious walk-in shower located on the ground floor, or pour in the bubbles for an indulgent soak in the elegant roll-top bath on the first floor.

Take advantage of your central location and follow the footpath leading into the heart of the bustling city of Canterbury, just a short walk away, where you'll find a host of sights and attractions to keep you entertained, including the medieval ruins of Canterbury Castle, the subterranean Roman history museum, and the oldest cathedral in England, dating back 1400 years.

Canterbury has been a site of pilgrimage since Chaucer’s day and as well as Canterbury Cathedral itself there is St Dunstan, which reputedly houses the head of St Thomas More, and the Roman Catholic Church of St Thomas of Canterbury, where relics of Thomas Becket himself are enshrined.

Gingerbread Cottage is also just a stone's throw away from Canterbury West train station to explore further afield!

Test your survival skills at Escape In The Towers, a thrilling escape room set within Canterbury's former city jail or catch a live performance at The Marlowe Theatre followed by a pint of real ale at Canterbury Tales.

Keep the little ones entertained and come face-to-face with the farmyard animals at Druidstone Park, or travel to the coast of Herne Bay where you can expect thrills aboard the rides on the pier or make a splash at the beach.

Jump in the car and journey to the town of Chatham and treat yourself to a spot of retail therapy at The Pentagon Shopping Centre, immerse yourself in maritime history with a tour of The Historic Dockyard Chatham, or charter a yacht and sail along the waters of the River Medway.

The cottage is well situated for a visit to the North Downs, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where you'll find a plethora of walking, hiking and cycling trails, leading you through rolling hills, open moorland and deep valleys.

With all of this and more, choose Gingerbread Cottage as your base to tour the hidden gems of Kent.
