"What can I say!"
An absolutely fabulous stay at Songbirds. There is everything you need from luxury bedding and pillows to the biggest towels I’ve ever used. Every detail is so well thought out.
My daughter and I spent 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time at this little piece of heaven. Quiet, secluded and private with a view of never ending fields and fortunately blue skies knowing the owners could be on hand if needed living in the next field over.
We arrived on one of the hottest days of the year and Carrie had kindly put in a fan for our use which was very welcome.
It’s obvious that the owners put their hearts and souls into the shepherds hut. It is well maintained and the little touches of homemade jam, milk and fresh bread rolls made it extra special.
The gated area for the dog was a godsend which meant we didn’t have to worry about her escaping and a large adjoining field to exercise her in. Local woods are on the doorstop making it an ideal spot for exploring with your furry friend.
Thankyou so much for having us. We would love to return one day xx

"Had a lovely weekend at Songbirds."
The location is great, it's peaceful with wonderful country views but with easy access to shops. It's private, without feeling isolated which is good for a solo holidayer.
Songbirds is full of character, well thought out and comfortable. Carrie and Mike are great hosts, helpful information before check in and a warm welcome when I arrived.
Wow, thanks Anna for this review. It was good to meet you and glad you had a peaceful and relaxing break.

"Both our hosts were friendly and welcoming."
We, unfortunately, arrived during a heatwave, and despite having paid for four nights at the property, were only able to spend one night, before returning home, due to the temperature inside the hut which was unbearable. As it is so small, and despite having a revolving fan supplied, we were unable to sleep, or stay inside the hut for more than a short time, because of the heat. We had to spend most of the day behind the hut to find some shade, and both ourselves and our little Dachshund were in danger of becoming ill, so we reluctantly decided to leave. The bathroom was also very small, with no room to dress, and an unconventional toilet which was rather difficult to use.
The actual hut has been well thought out, with most things you could need during your stay, and the hosts supplied a couple of rolls, eggs, milk and jam to welcome you, which was a nice touch.
Sadly, we doubt we would return to Songbirds, due to the cramped conditions and the very small space, although we enjoyed the quirkiness of the place and the setting was lovely. I'm sure it would be a nice short break during the cooler months, and the surrounding places to visit are easily reachable.
We are really sorry that your stay was tricky and you decided to leave early. The hut is usually cool and in the shade until midday and then yes, it does get hot but there is plenty of shade under the oak trees at the top of the field. There is also a mown area there available for your use and seating. But the weather was exceptional and although the hut cools down in the evening we do understand your concerns. We have tried to use the space as efficiently as we could but apologies if it didn't meet up to your expectations. Again our apologies for your disappointment on what should have been a relaxing and enjoyable break.

"Directions are simple, turn into Swain Road, drive for 1/2 miles and then step off the conveyor belt of life."
Song Birds is such a beautiful and peaceful place to stay.
The weather was very continental during our stay, we never shut the doors or windows the whole time we were there, waking in the morning to the gentle sound of sheep baaring, cows mooing and birds chirping.
At no point was there any intrusion of 21st century noise.
The hut is well equipped with everything you need for your stay and the hosts are very friendly.
I really didn't want to come home
Thanks Colin for this. It made me smile! So glad you had a great time and the tranquility got to you. Have a great summer. All the best Carrie

"I don’t know how to tell you this, but two nights in a shepherd’s hut in the middle of a field has completely ruined normal life for us."
We arrived as functioning adults with responsibilities. We left as feral woodland creatures who communicate exclusively through sighing contentedly at sunsets. The birdsong alone should be on prescription. The hut itself is an absolute triumph — spotless, stylish, warm, and equipped with a hot shower and working toilet (we were so relieved, in every sense). The hosts have clearly thought of everything, right down to details we didn’t even know we needed. Five star glamping perfection.
I was even inspired to download the Merlin App and I have left as an official bird twitcher, sharing our field with blue tits, robins, wrens, wood pigeons, jackdaws, blackbirds…. I could go on!
Thank you Carrie and Mike for being great hosts.

Wow …. That’s a terrific response to staying here. We know this is a special place but really glad to share it with you. I’m not sure I have Ferrell status yet after 25 years here but I’ll try to get there …. Slowly. Glad it got to you as it has for us. Hope to see you again. Sunshine and tranquility await your next visit for a chill session, lambs, cows, hens, songbirds … we can do it all, hopefully

"I had a very relaxing stay at Songbirds for 4 nights."
The accommodation is clean and very comfortable and I had the best sleeps. The hut is fully equipped with everything you could ever need for a relaxing break. The hosts are friendly and on hand should you ever need anything. Carrie had left fresh laid eggs, a roll, butter and homemade jam and treats for the dog which were all delicious. Location is great for visiting the coast, Tentaden town and there is a lovely forest walk opposite. The garden is lovely to sit out in the evenings. I would highly recommend. Cannot wait to book this again.
Thank you for your great review Karen. I’m so glad you enjoyed staying in Songbirds and we hope to see you both again in the future.

It felt like a glamorous camping adventure. The situation is idyllic, with a view over the surrounding fields. There is a lovely field walk to Tenterdon and Rye was such an interesting place to visit.
Finally, Carrie couldn’t have done more to make us feel very welcome.

"This was a fabulous base to explore Kent from."
Carrie was very welcoming and we loved the home-made marmalade and fresh eggs she left us when we arrived. The resident dogs were very friendly to our greyhound, and we really appreciated having an enclosed field to use and the local woods a few metres away for walks. Very useful to have a fan during the hot weather!
Great to meet you both and handsome Seren. I am so pleased Songbirds met up to your expectations and gave you a chance to see this beautiful part of Kent. Thanks for your kind words and perhaps we will see you again on another occasion.

"Really relaxing stay at Songbirds."
I have a reactive dog and the owner Carrie was so understanding. She gave us our space but called to check everything was ok and if I needed anything. The cabin is cosy and really comfortable with everything you need, I haven’t slept so well in ages. The area is lovely and we had some great woodland and countryside walks from the cabin. There is a really helpful book with loads of information about the area, walks, restaurants etc and what a lovely touch leaving some bread, eggs and local marmalade. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing stay.
Thank you for coming Hannah and I am so glad you and Kenny (dog) had a great time. Thank you too for this great review, it is good to hear that your expectations were met and you had such a relaxing time. Perhaps we will see you again for another short break away.

A nice little extra was some lovely fresh eggs, rolls, milk, butter and marmalade.
