Description
Margate is a characterful mid-terrace Victorian house in Cliftonville, Margate, Kent, offering a memorable base for families and friends exploring the Kent coast.
With the beach within walking distance, an enclosed rear garden and two well-behaved pets welcome, the property is well suited to a seaside escape with your four-legged companions.
Find roadside parking before approaching the green Victorian exterior, where steps lead up to a vibrant pink front door.
Cross the threshold into the bold blue entrance hall, where artwork lines the walls and introduces the house’s distinctive personality.
Bold colours, vintage mid-century furnishings and original features continue throughout, creating an eclectic backdrop as you move from room to room.
Step into the open-plan living space and settle onto the sofa after your journey, pull up a seat at the bar with a drink, or gather around the dining table for a meal together.
Move into the kitchen area, where an animal-print rug adds another playful flourish and a range cooker sits within a striking green nook framed by exposed brick.
Fill the fridge/freezer with holiday favourites and start the morning with coffee from the coffee maker, while the microwave, kettle and toaster cater for lighter bites and quick refreshments.
Afterwards, leave the dishwasher to handle the washing up, with a washing machine also available for freshening up clothes after days at the beach.
Continue into the snug at the rear of the house, where a corner sofa invites everyone to settle down in front of the TV for an evening film, with WiFi available for planning tomorrow's adventures.
Doors open directly onto the garden, making it easy to move between indoors and out, while a colourful cloakroom with basin and WC completes the ground floor.
Head upstairs and discover more of the home's confident use of colour.
The bathroom pairs mint-green fixtures with a bath and shower over, so you can rinse away the sand after a beach day or settle in for a longer soak.
When bedtime calls, choose between two king-size bedrooms, one a spacious room dressed in lilac hues and the other a striking pink room beneath a green ceiling, where an ornate fireplace and bay window add to its individual character.
A third bedroom with a triple bunk completes the first floor.
Follow the pink stairs towards the second floor, passing butterfly artwork on the way before reaching a landing and dressing area beneath the roofline.
From here, two further bedrooms are tucked into the eaves, each furnished with a small double bed beneath a Velux window.
Please note that the stairs leading to this converted loft level are steeper and narrower than standard stairs, making them unsuitable for very young children, older guests or anyone with mobility issues.
Once everyone is ready for the day, return downstairs and throw open the doors from the snug to the enclosed rear garden.
Take breakfast onto the deck, sit around the garden furniture with a coffee, or let your four-legged companions stretch their legs while you decide where to explore next.
When you fancy heading out, the shop and pub are practically on the doorstep, while the beach is an easy walk from the house.
Spend a day in Broadstairs, only a few miles along the coast, where you can sink your toes into the sand at Viking Bay, delve into the town's literary connections at the Dickens House Museum, then wander through the characterful streets and seafront as you discover this Kentish coastal town.
In Ramsgate, a little over five miles from the property, stroll beside the boats of the Royal Harbour, head underground to investigate the Ramsgate Tunnels, then uncover more of the area's maritime story at Ramsgate Maritime Museum.
Alternatively, journey inland to Canterbury, less than eighteen miles away, where soaring architecture awaits at Canterbury Cathedral, centuries of history can be uncovered among the remains of St Augustine's Abbey, and a walk through Westgate Gardens offers a leafy change of scene beside the River Stour.
Return to Margate after your adventures, step back through that distinctive pink door and settle into the house's bold, artistic surroundings for another evening on the Kent coast.
