"Cottage location - lovely."
Convenient for town and in a prestigious spot.
Parking to drop off luggage is challenging but it is what it is.
Cottage is picturesque but there is scope to update internally. Crockery and glasses is a bit of a hotchpotch. No welcome pack and no visitors book. House guide is minimal. No recycling bags were provided during our stay. Could include wifi password rather than guests having to look on back of router which the owner tells guests not to tamper with.
Starlight not working and given the stairwell is a safety issue.
Bathroom windows catch is broken. Windows needed cleaning.
Cleanliness could be improved generally.
Bed was comfortable. Sofa uncomfortable and needs replacing.
Bathroom tiles need cleaning and replacing.
Good hot water and heating.
We did enjoy our stay at Lantern Cottage but some improvements and updating is due.
Rye was delightful. One of the best small town high streets seen in a long time.

"We had such a comfortable stay in Lantern Cottage and would thoroughly recommend it."
The cottage was more spacious than expected. The central heating works very well and the cottage quickly warms up on a cold day. There are great views across the countryside towards Winchelsea from the bedroom windows. Everything was clean and tidy. The beds are very comfortable.
Some previous reviewers mentioned the steepness of the stairs. We found this not to be an issue for us, and we have stayed at other cottages in Rye with much steeper staircases.

"The cottage is very nice we have been back twice but the cleaniness wasn't that good ."
There was lots of cobwebs around the windows inside upstairs and downstairs also lots around the toilet. The cottage has lovely comfortable beds and lovely soft towels and it's very quiet but I think some extra cleaning would help .

"Lovely little cottage in a pretty position off Mermaid Street, the flowering lavender attracted attention from bees and tourists alike."
As previous reviewers said: the seating is very low and the stairs very steep, but there is everything you could need, including coffee, tea, cooking oil, eco-friendly loo paper...
Very comfortable beds and luxurious bedding, with superb views from the bedrooms.
Took me a while to work out how to use the hob and some information about recycling would have been useful.
A great place to stay and only a short walk from the railway station and buses.

"Lantern Cottage is in a very quiet location on a footpath in an elevated position in the historic old town, with excellent views over the harbour rooftops towards Winchelsea and Camber Castle."
Comfortably furnished and appointed throughout but attention to a few minor repairs and maintenance would create a better impression. The steps up to the front door could benefit from a handrail, and the internal stairs are the steepest we've encountered anywhere and could cause a problem for the infirm or elderly. Overall, good accommodation for exploring Rye and district.

"The location is wonderful."
Quiet, but right in the middle of town.
The cottage is light and roomy, and ceilings and doorways are high enough not the hit your head when you are tall.
Bed and bathroom were very comfortable, the seating in the livingroom is very low and soft though, so I decided to pile up the cushions to make it more comfortable.
But that would not keep me from booking again.

"Very comfortable short stay in this delightful well located cottage."
We found the facilities well provided, the seating and bed comfortable and the bath/shower arrangement fine. The Wi-Fi was a little unreliable and we were a bit unprepared for the steep stairs, but otherwise, we had a great break, thanks.

"Trading on location!"
More effort needed by owners. eg windows in smaller room leaked (had to put towels on sill during heavy rain), taps wabbled, toilet occasionally leaked from base when you flush, damaged drawers in larger bedroom, no cork screw, ragged wooden utensils, non-stick surface of frying pan damaged, holes in cushion covers, TV remote not working, bins not emptied, shower screen leaked at base as seal has gone, Wi-Fi never worked. Bed in larger room very uncomfortable - sagged towards the middle. And when we booked it was listed as parking nearby, with no charge warning. Parking costs for the week amounted to £60! Parking is £3.20 6pm to 10am, or £5 for a 24-hour period, behind Kettle of Fish by the Wish Street roundabout. 3 minutes' walk from the house.
We are truly sorry for your disappointment with Lantern Cottage. We have addressed all the issues you have raised. We try to action all issues raised immediately, we could have fixed so many of these issues straightaway had you notified us during your stay. There is 24 hour parking at The Cattle Market Car Park accessed via Rope Walk for £2.50 every 24 hours. Parking is readily available in Rye within walking distance of the cottage for a variety of different prices, I'm sorry you were not advised of the cheaper options. Thank you for your comments.

"The cottage wonderful location."
However the seating was not comfortable. Dining chairs like school children’s and not comfortable. The sofa gave us backache and the armchairs very uncomfortable. A number of things to point out :
Kettle does not automatically switch off.
Dishwasher needs rinse aid.
One bed has base misaligned.
No broom or dustpan and brush to be found in case of accidental spillage.
Internet very unreliable.
TV remote control needs new batteries or replacing.
Tea bags and coffee well out of date and no welcome niceity to be found.
Otherwise lovely.

"We were pleased with the cottage in general."
Our only issue is the uncomfortable sofa and armchairs. They lacked any support and were low down which in turn made them difficult to get out of.

"We followed instructions to get to cottage on sat nav for unloading but unfortunately many of the cobbled streets were not suitable for vehicles and we went round and round to try to get close."
We ended up parking in the Strand to unload, at a cost of £7 which we didnt realise gave us just till tea time! more needs to be explained about parking as description does say parking available, yes, as long as you are prepared to walk a distance and pay. We found Marinos fish and chip shop with car park behind, and paid £5 for 24 hours. The cottage was very central, and was fine for two adults, not sure for any more as it is very small and bathroom and seating could be a problem. The sofa was really grubby with stains and spills all over it, we did feel it needed a good clean, however it was comfy. The fridge has broken door shelf and the inner trays were the only storeage area for bottles etc, resulted in leaking milk everywhere as we had to lay it down!. Previous clients rubbish in the dustbin so we couldnt dispose of our rubbish. We didnt cook but kitchen looked ok with utensils, although several mugs have very visible chips in the bases. We were here for just 4 nights and it was enough, more effort is needed to provide a little more than just getting by. Batteries in remote had almost gone, needed replacing, we left a note. Maybe as we have 3 or 4 cottage breaks a year, and have for many years, our expectations are high , no welcome pack {pint of milk} no toiletries, no guest book, little tourist info, We didnt really feel we had arrived on holiday, all cottage owners need to up their game in welcoming guests, we are on holiday!!! must mention, the towells are super and Simply Italian restaurant just down from cottage at the Strand is absolutely amazing.
