"We enjoyed our stay at 24 Elm Grove, Westgate-on-Sea."
The accommodation was spacious and clean. There was a small, internal courtyard which offered a private space to enjoy the outside, as well as access to an open grassy space. The building is cleverly designed to make use of space and maximise light, including a lovely skylight in the bathroom. The building is very close to the railway line and vibrations can be heard and felt as trains pass - that said, we did get used to it and by the end of the week this was not an issue. We also experienced some minor technical issues, which Johanna, our host, was able to fix quickly.

"The house is in a very good location to visit all areas of the Isle of Thanet."
Very spacious, clean and airy throughout. The listing shows that the property has two double bedrooms, but there was one double and one twin. There was no hot water other than from the electric shower, so the bath was not useable. Would have appreciated a pint of milk in the fridge on arrival, rather than the bottled water! However, we had a lovely holiday staying here for a week.

"The house is lovely (especially the bathroom) and is in a great location for exploring Kent."
Canterbury and Deal in particular are well worth a visit. Would point out that the house is very close to the railway line, the trains are quite loud and frequent. We got used to it but probably should be mentioned in description. Property extremely clean and well equipt.
We had a great stay. Thank-you.

"Key exchange could be better."
Only one small table & none on patio. Disable entrance, wide doors & downstairs bedroom. But no handrails, particularly in bathroom. Only one bedside cabinet. No tourist and local information or guestbook to leave useful info for future guests. Shared grass area had mess before and after our arrival. Generally a nice spacious place to use as base for using train to visit nearby places. Slightly overlooked but not too much and we quickly got use to the noise of the trains nearby.

"From arriving at this property to leaving we enjoyed every minute ,it was in a lovely quiet area yet only 5 mins from shops beach pubs and bars and train station."
The property was modern and spotlessly clean, only drawback was the trains went past the property so could be noisy but that didn’t spoil it for us. Look forward to returning to this lovely area.

"We had a very enjoyable holiday with our dogs at this lovely cottage, which had the wow factor!"
Everything you would need was there.Very clean and airy, comfy beds, and an amazing shower room.
Close to village and beach, which were 10 minutes walking distance.
There were frequent trains running behind cottage but didn't bother us once we got used to them.(But do feel that it should be mentioned in Sykes description that cottage is next to the railway line)
Would highly recommend this delightful holiday home.We hope to return one day.

"Perfect location for exploring and relaxing - with scope for walking out the door plus good bus and train services - you could have a great time in Thanet without a car."
Wonderfully near the beaches with cafe restaurants and a good selection of restaurants in the small centre. Very nicely presented accommodation, airy, extremely clean and well equipped kitchen for home cooking. Would certainly stay there again.
Minor point but worth being aware - the opening description refers to off road parking for two cars and then in the property summary it states one; when I checked, just to be clear, it is one but there is lots of on-street parking too.

"This is a lovely 2 bed cottage that is of a high spec and recently renovated."
It had all the equipment we needed and the central heating was warm and kept us cosy. Overall we are positive and we really enjoyed our break. However there were a couple of gripes. Firstly we knew the property was next to a railway line but we didn't appreciate that trains would zoom past well into the night. I think the last one was around 1.30am. It woke me up every time as it was noisy and also the upstairs bedroom vibrates. We did get used to it as time went on but something to be aware of. Secondly the electric (and only shower) was really poor. There was a trade off between pressure and heat. To have it anywhere near hot the shower was a dribble. I ended up sitting in the bath and using that shower (from the mains water) as it was stronger and warmer. Such a shame as the bathroom has obviously just been renovated.

"The property was clean and well maintained, with a cute covered patio area outside the kitchen."
It’s set back from the road in a cul de sac and there is parking directly outside. It’s a few minutes walk to the shops, the seafront and the train station.
Upon arrival we had a few teething problems. We couldn’t find the cutlery drawer, because it’s hidden inside another drawer and it’s not obvious that it’s there. The taps on the kitchen sink have been plumbed incorrectly so the hot and cold water come out of the wrong taps which was initially confusing. The duvets on the beds were 10.5 togs which is unsuitable for summer months, and no alternatives were available within the property. We had difficulty getting the key for the inner door to work. Also there was no indication of the WiFi code.
The owner was very helpful once contacted and swapped the duvets for 3 togs the following day. We suggested that a welcome notice containing the WiFi code and covering the issue with the taps and cutlery drawer would be helpful for future holidaymakers, which she seemed amenable to.
The kitchen is well equipped, but there is no empty cupboard to store your dry goods in.
There is a washer and tumble dryer in the bathroom, but be warned it’s an eco machine which takes much longer than normal to do a wash.
The tv is a Roku box which takes time to navigate if you’re unfamiliar with, we never did figure out how to get ITVX on it !
We thought the beds were rather soft. Mine was also low, as was the corner sofa.
My iPad connected to the WiFi but my sisters phone would not. She had no problem connecting to other WiFi in the area, so it’s puzzling why it would not connect in the property.
We were aware the train line was close by but it actually runs directly behind the property. They are fairly frequent, but we didn't find them bothersome.
Overall we had a pleasant stay in a nice property in a lovely area.

Fabulous location for station, local shops and beach as all in walking distance. Great having a dish washer but limited amount of cutlery meant washing up after every use. Some smaller tumblers would be a great addition to the large hi-ball glasses provided.

"Well presented and generally well equipped property with a super groundfloor bathroom."
Kitchen had good quality fridge, freezer, cooker and dishwasher however there was insufficient cutlery - no tablespoons and only 4 dessert spoons, teaspoons, forks and knives. The groundfloor bed was very comfortable however the mattress on the upstairs bed appeared to be in need of replacement. There was no information pack/book but the owner responded very promptly to our queries and was speedy in sorting out the one issue we had during our stay.
Whilst the reviews of the property mention how close it is to the railway there isn't any mention of this in the property description on the Sykes website and it is very, very close to the line so there is noise from the trains.

"Loved the property and would love to stay again, however it didn’t suit my disabilities."
Unfortunately the downstairs beds were too high for me to get into, I couldn’t get up the stairs to try the other bed so I had no choice to sleep in the chair. The sofa was too low and soft. The shower could have had a grab rail on the wall, which would have helped. This is no reflection on the property and I would recommend it for a lovely stay I only wish I was more able as I would defiantly book again. The property was fresh and clean with nice touches, tea, coffee, sugar. Cleaning and washing products and plenty of toilet rolls. The trains didn’t bother us,

"The location was very very close to the railway line and this was not mentioned in the advert."
Seemingly sites including this one that claim to cater for the disabled, do not actually know very much about being disabled, and the how their needs are affected, by the facilities. This location had very good access but lacked a lot in the daily needs of the disabled. It was a lovely stay, and just as good as most we have experienced, but none have been truly first rate.

Wi-Fi password was also a bit of a secret at first, but both soon rectified by the owner.
The bathroom is a dream, wonderful walk-in shower, one of the main reasons we booked this property, although may I respectfully suggest that a grab handle would be a valued addition, as not all those who are less mobile/disabled are wheelchair -bound.

It was very clean and is well maintained. Home from home with everything we needed for our stay. The bed we slept in was comfortable. Apart from the odd train passing by (which didn’t bother us) it is very quiet.
The location is great, set a few minutes walk into the small town which has some lovely shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. The sea front is also a short walk away and you can walk all the way to Margate which we did. We also used the local train station (a 5 minute walk) to visit Canterbury and Herne Bay. It is a fabulous location for exploring Kent.

"Lovely cottage and we enjoyed our stay in November 2024."
Location: I really liked the location- lovely to be able to walk to the sea front in a few minutes for nice walks. Good attractions nearby- we walked to Margate one day and drove to Whitstable another day. The restaurants, bars and cafes of Westgate-on-Sea are also on your doorstep, and a small cinema is nearby.
Cottage: It was impeccably clean and clearly well maintained. I would flag (as the listing doesn't mention it) the property does abut the train line. It didn't really bother us (we live near a train line at home), and there aren't overly frequent trains, but for some people it may cause bother. Apart from the trains it is a quiet area. Nice range of kitchen items (although perhaps could have done with some more cutlery). The cottage was nice and cosy, and the Wi-Fi was fast and fine for us and able to cope well with video calls etc.
Overall I would definitely recommend.
