Skiber Coombe

Absolutely loved Skiber Coombe.

We were there with our son and his family and the cottage comfortably accommodated 6. Location was beautiful with complete peace and quiet. Beaches and attractions are on average 30-45 minutes away. The pool was a big hit with an excellent timetable pre prepared to allow a fair share of time for both cottages. Adi is a great host and a pleasure to chat to and the lemon drizzle cake was beautiful and very welcome. Overall we recommend this property for anyone looking to spend quality time with family and hope to return soon. Oh and the beds were amazingly comfortable!

I accept that people have different opinions.

We have stayed in many cottages so Id like to think I give fair and honest reviews. Our family booked this cottage together with skibber long for 1 week during the summer holidays. From the start the owners Adi and Sue were helpful with great communication. We travelled down from Merseyside. The drive was approximately 6 hours. Once off the main road, its is 10 mins or so down very thin (overgrown) paths which left a few marks on the car. Be mindful that these paths are not unusual for Cornwall. First impressions on arrival...the view, WOW. We are from a built up area and I crave the peace and tranquility. This did not disappoint. The only noise I could hear was the odd sheep from a distance and the smell was beautiful. Upon entering the cottages, we were gifted a lemon drizzle cake, a card and a small milk in the fridge which was a nice touch. I do think there could have been a little more in terms of a welcome pack. Especially considering the distance we had travelled, the amount of money we had paid and the fact that the nearest shop was 10-15 min drive away (We had arranged for a Tesco shop to be delivered, this didn't arrive until 8.30pm, it was hard to judge a time for delivery incase we hit any traffic). The cottages were well presented, both had good amenities, they were clean and the beds were comfortable. N.B we always bring our own pillows as we've learnt over time that generally the pillows that are provided are a bit rubbish. The instructions on how to recycle and dispose of rubbish were good and well organised. We did find that the cottages had a damp smell, more noticeable in skibber coombe's downstairs bedrooms. Upon closer inspection the wooden beams had mould on them and the paint on the wall was flaking off due to damp. We also found black mould on the wall in Skibber long on the adjacent wall outside the main bathroom. Obviously, this was a concern with the health implications of breathing in mould spores. We tried to have the windows/doors open as much as possible but there was a hornets nest located in Skibber Coombe's cottage wall between the patio doors and kitchen doors. My daughter was hysterical when one flew inside. We understand that these cottages have a more earthy/traditional feel but there are some areas that need attention to bring back upto standard. The ensuite bathroom in the main bedroom in skibber Coombe is a little tired. We spent most of our time on day trips or enjoying the pool and play area...one word...FANTASTIC. For me, this was the main selling point. The children absolutely loved it, the pool was well maintained and the toilet/shower area was clean and tidy. The games and additional pool toys were much appreciated and the table tennis was a big hit for all the family. We also ventured down the path to the stream, it is a 15 min walk downhill and across a couple of fields. Lovely. Just bear in mind, the walk back is not so pleasant, uphill with moaning children, lol. As a mum, it was good to have use of the outdoor laundry facilities. There are seperate washers and dryers for each cottage. As we rented both cottages it meant I got all the washing done in no time, so no dreaded pile to work through on our return home. Overall, we did enjoy our stay and we miss the beautiful views and peace. The pool area and games room was excellent. Would I stay again? probably not. I think the accomodation needs some attention to bring it back upto standard and some general maintenance of the grounds.

Adi and sue were wonderful hosts. The cottage was comfortable, spacious and had everything we needed. It was lovely to hear the birds and farm animals , see the swallows feeding their chicks in the eves . The pool was a lovely bonus and lovely and warm. The views all around were amazing and the peace and quiet, just what we needed. We would definitely come back.

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Skiper Coombe.

The house was clean and well presented with all the facilities needed. They even provided a lemon drizzle cake on our arrival. Delicious! My family enjoyed the swimming pool and had a few games of table tennis in the games room. They also walked down to the river. The house was in a remote farm area with wonderful views - we had to drive on single track roads to get to it but that wasn't a problem. Also we had entertainment in the living room - swallows were nesting in the eaves and they were very busy flying in and out - very hard working little birds. Great place, very comfortable and the owners were very friendly and helpful.

Lovely lemon drizzle cake when we arrived and we finished it all over the days we were there. The farm is in a wonderful location with the most amazing pool that the grand children spent many happy hours enjoying. Very close to many places to visit like Looe, Adrenalin Quarry with its amazing zip wire, the Cornwall at War museum and many others we didn't get to. Grandchildren want to go back next year so that is a good indication how good it was. Overall we enjoyed the place immensely and had a wonderful stay.

The property has been beautifully designed, and it's clear that a great deal of care and effort has gone into its restoration and renovation.

It offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the mountains and the valley—one that you could admire for hours without getting tired of it. The tap water is exceptionally fresh and delicious, even better than many bottled mineral waters. The rooms are a bit damp, which is likely due to the region's naturally high humidity. Facilities such as the indoor swimming pool are a wonderful addition and make the stay even more enjoyable. Finally, special thanks to Adi for his kindness and warm hospitality. His genuine friendliness and welcoming smile made our stay even more memorable.

Incredible, idyllic and inspiring.

Thank you to Adi and Sue for creating a wonderful slice of relaxation. The location is fantastic, a working farm nestled amongst cornish countryside, the only nosy neighbours are Adi's sheep and lambs who trot over to say hello. We (Me, my wife, our 4 year old and 6 month old) stayed in Skiber Coombe and the converted barn is finished to a high standard. It is clean, modern with traditional features and decorated with a nod to the rural charm of the county. The immediate grounds also feature an indoor swimming pool overlooking fields and a valley, games room for kids with table tennis, table football and a mini snooker table. There is a wealth of activity, history and sites of interest within a short drive and Adi and Sue have curated a folder full of suggestions. There are wonderful walks, pubs and places to eat nearby or source food to cook back at the place. Speaking of whom, they go above and beyond with the personal touch, from the homemade lemon drizzle cake (using eggs from the chickens on the farm!), to sharing insights on cider, to Adi knocking on the door and inviting us to come and watch the the two lambs of the final Ewe to give birth for the year, walking shortly after being born and seeing their first steps. It was magical. Our only regret is not being able to stay longer. Cheers Adi and Sue and we will be back.

We had a wonderful stay at Adi & Sue's cottage.

The home-made delicious lemon cake on arriving was a lovely touch. The cottage is very well equipped. The beds are comfortable. The log fire was perfect for the cooler evenings. And the swimming pool and games room were brilliant. My grandson made extremely good use of them every day, at least twice a day. Our hosts were welcoming, friendly and helpful. A 10/10 ***** holiday

Lovely accommodation with games facilities and use of an indoor heated pool, great for wet weather.

Everything that you need for a great holiday, lovely area and very friendly host. Welcome included a lovely lemon drizzle cake.

This was a beautiful cottage in idyllic landscape.

We felt welcomed (cake and flowers in the kitchen), warm, comfortable, and impressed with the attention to detail (eg pure wool throws everywhere). We were delighted and plan to return.

Would recomend skiber combe to any one

This is a great place to stay for exploring north or south Cornwall.

It’s a very quiet location in beautiful countryside down some very narrow country lanes. The accommodation is comfortable and well appointed. The games room and Swimming pool is an added bonus. An absolute luxury to be able to swim a few lengths in the heated pool before breakfast. If we are ever holidaying in the area again, Skiber Coombe will be my first choice.

We really enjoyed our stay. So peaceful and picturesque. The swallows, swooping between the trees and the farm; a delightful sight. The owners are very welcoming, but respected our privacy though they were friendly and there if we needed them for local information. The scrumptious lemon drizzle cake, made with their own eggs, was a big hit with our grandchildren….and us! Skiber Coombe is tucked away between hills and is a particularly safe environment for children to play freely. Our grandchildren loved the swimming pool, games room and the football area in the field. Plus we all enjoyed the river walk. General opinion was, we’ll be back!

Gorgeous setting, hidden down narrow country lanes, we used Skiber Coombe as our base to walk the Tamara Way.

Very comfortable house, it was lovely to come back to towelling robes and a dip in the swimming pool! Well set up kitchen, comfy beds, and nice lounge area. Adi and Sue were friendly helpful hosts and we were sorry not to spend more time exploring the area.

The holiday home is set in beautiful countryside.

It's spacious, well furnished and equipped and clean and tidy throughout. The pool and games rooms are a valuable added extra, and our children very much enjoyed chopping logs in the yard for the fire, which warmed the living room really well. We enjoyed our stay at Skiber Coombe very much. Adi & Sue were always on hand, when we needed anything, and were sorry to have had to leave earlier than planned to attend to a major burglary at our home. We will try to book this accommodation, when we visit Cornwall again.

Absolutely lovely place to visit !

Very quiet,clean and tidy,lovely comfortable beds too! Bonus was the swimming pool, plus games too,not forgetting the delicious lamon drizzle cake left for us.Adi was very helpful , he was on hand to help any way he could ! Great place to stay !!

Had a wonderful time in this tranquil and peaceful setting.

Away from any noise and distractions the pool was excellent for teaching my children to swim. Having it to ourselves for large parts of the day was a bonus. The cottage itself has been sympathetically restored to a high standard. We loved our stay and made some great memories with the family.

Beautiful cottage on a beautiful farm.

The sheep and lambs were adorable! Adi was kind enough to allow us to see the tame lambs which was amazing. Our children absolutely loved the swimming pool. Turning up to the cottage to find a fresh baked lemon drizzle cake and milk for our tea was a beautiful touch. (Cake was lush too!) A suggestion from us would be to maybe share a pin for the location of the property or use the what 3 words app as we found it difficult to find the property at first.
