  • "An outstanding property."

Plenty of space for four people. Would definitely recommend.

Thanks for this lovely feedback, hope you come back and get better weather next time. Property Owner

  • "The ONLY very minor quibble is that, from the master bedroom, the noise of an outside boiler from one of the other apartments can be quite loud at times."

Otherwise, it is so peaceful that this noise can be distracting, especially early in the morning. Ideally, the grey squirrels would be eliminated as well. :) Other than that - Norton is absolutely fabulous!

Thank you for your feedback and glad you have had a great time. Hopefully that boiler will be replaced soon. Working on the greys! but lots of lovely reds to see too. Update March 24, that property has a new and quieter boiler now :) Property Owner

  • "Loved the property, great location, great views."

Well maintained. Much of the glassware was plastic, I appreciate this reduces breakages but would have preferred glass. Some covers for the outside table and chairs would be good as I had to give them a good wipe down before we could use them. However the standard of the music system, TV, WiFi was great, didn't need them really as we had wall to wall sun but for a rainy week would have been a real bonus.

Thank-you for your lovely and helpful feedback and we are so pleased you had a good holiday. Covers for the outside table and chairs would be good, will see if we can find some that would do the job. We are puzzled by the comment about the plastic glasses- there is a set of these so they can be used for picnics etc but there is also a full set of glass tumblers and wine glasses, maybe they were in a cupboard that you didn't find. • "We had a lovely stay at Norton-it’s in a lovely location, quiet with great views across the valley yet close enough to Keswick-we walked it Ona couple of days."

The cottage is excellent and very well equipped. Lovely airy kitchen and dining space, cosy living room and good sized bedrooms. The gardens of the house are gorgeous, with space to sit out and explore. We saw two deer and were lucky enough to see the red squirrels in the garden. The neighbours who look after the squirrels were lovely too. We hiked from the door up Skiddaw and Dodd and did lots of other hikes, runs and activities in the north lakes. Norton had lots of space for hiking gear storage, loved the utility room and second fridge as well! The only thing we’d recommend to add is for some child-sized clothes hangers in one of the wardrobes, for children’s clothes. A really excellent cottage-we’ve booked another holiday here already!

We are delighted you enjoyed your stay at Norton and hope the weather is good for you next year too. Thankyou for the lovely feedback. Some hangers for children's clothes would be a good and easy addition so will find some. Property Owner

It is very comfortably furnished to a high spec and the kitchen is very well equipped. The views across the the fells are stunning. As toiletries are not provided at the property, with the exception of hand wash, it would be good to advise clients of this in the brochure.

So pleased you enjoyed your stay. Thankyou for your comments. Property Owner

  • "The property is well appointed and nicely furnished."

However, there were a few things which spoiled our enjoyment of staying there. We were surprised at the lack of cleaning materials, a surface cleaner, a small amount of washing up liquid and 3 dishwasher tablets. In addition one small cloth. When we took this up with the Property Manager we were told that this was to get us started. When I showed surprise she said she would feed our comments back to the owners. The patio furniture was dirty and we were trying to clean this with wet wipes which was not that easy. The patio area was in need of a clean. The pathway to the patio was overgrown and needs cutting back. The outside areas of the property generally need a tidy up. The lounge has skylights and when it was hot we could not sit in the lounge. The property would benefit from a fan. Having paid a high premium to rent this property I still cannot get over the fact that we had to go and buy dishwasher tablets which we have had to take with us for the rest of our trip. There were a few other examples of penny pinching i.e. one toilet roll in each bathroom which I would not expect when having paid the amount we did to rent this property. We would not book again.

Thankyou for your comments which we will carefully consider. There are blinds on the Velux windows in the lounge to help with the sun, but It was an exceptionally hot week and the fans are a good idea. We will talk to the housekeeper re the outdoor furniture, and the other issues, there should have been some cleaning materials and more than 1 toilet roll for each bathroom, apologies this was not the case. • "It was a lovely property - very comfortable and well appointed."

In a great location. The choice of duvet is a good idea as the seasons change. 3 minor niggles. The sink in the en suite is too small to be useful- you can't do anything with it without getting water/toothpaste all over the floor. The garden furniture was really dirty with caked on bird poo that we couldn't remove. We managed to clean up 2 chairs enough to sit on but it would have been nice to have been able to have used the table. There were no cleaning products to keep surfaces/toilets clean - some items would be useful - a spray/bleach/ sponges. We bought our own and took them home with us.

We are pleased you enjoyed your stay at Norton. Thank you for your feedback. We have spoken to the cleaning team about the garden furniture and cleaning items. The sink is quite small as design options here were limited. We hope you had a wonderful holiday in the Lakes. Best wishes Property Owner

  • "Property was excellent and in a great location."

Only minor issue worth mentioning was the bath plug, which wouldn’t open fully using the knob on the side and you had to pull out the plug by hand to drain after a shower. Didn’t impact our stay and would definitely use the property again.

Apologies for our delayed reply. Thank you for your kind comments. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Norton and hope you had a very enjoyable break in the Lakes. Thank you also for taking the trouble to give helpful feedback in relation to the bath plug. We will make arrangements for this to be sorted out. Best wishes Property Owner

  • "A fabulous place to stay."

Set in lovely grounds with great views over Derwent water. The cottage has a very modern feel, but nice quirky features too, and all the facilities you need. Great showers, comfy sofas, superb latest spec TV, very clean throughout. The wood burner was fab, really easy to use. The only slight comment to make was the size of the sink in the en-suite, so small that it was almost impractical. That aside superb cottage and would highly recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to give your kind feedback. We are very pleased that you had a good break and enjoyed your stay at Norton. We understand your comment that the ensuite sink is on the small side. We thought very carefully about design but in view of the need to work inside the existing parameters of the property there were only certain solutions that we were advised would fit everything in including plumbing etc. Best wishes and we hope you may come back sometime in the future. One very minor comment to make. It would have been useful to have been told to bring our own logs for the wood burner (or even, some provided). This aside, an excellent property that is tastefully decorated and furnished.

Thank you for your kind feedback. We are very pleased that you had a good break and enjoyed your stay at Norton. We will ask Heart of the Lakes to let people know about logs in advance in the future . Best wishes and Happy Christmas Property Owner

This former coach house and stands next to Applethwaite County House on the southern slopes of Skiddaw and boasts fantastic views over the Borrowdale over Derwent Water. The main house was once owned by Dr Wakefield, a member of the ill-fated 1924 expedition to Everest led by George Mallory and the residential properties on the grounds are named after the mountaineers, this one in particular being Edward Norton.

Arriving at the property, a designated parking space invites you to leave the car and begin your holiday in your home away from home for the trip.

Step into the cottage and climb the stairs straight up to the first floor to enjoy your living quarters.

Settle down for the evening in the sitting room to watch the Smart TV as the woodburning stove creates a gentle warmth through the space.

From here, take advantage of the well-equipped kitchen/diner, home to a Juliet balcony allowing plenty of fresh air into the space, and an electric oven and induction hob so you can whip up meals for the group to enjoy at the dining table as you plan your day's events. When sleep calls make your way downstairs to the bedrooms; the ground floor hosts a super-king-size with a zip/link feature for a flexible sleeping arrangement and a king-size with a sleek en-suite bathroom.

Completing the ground floor is a handy utility with a fridge/freezer, along with a shower room and a first-floor cloakroom.

Outside, you can savour the summer months in the garden with a glass of wine on the patio, or perhaps prepare a picnic to enjoy on the share two-acre grounds.

If you don't fancy cooking, head out to The Pheasant Inn for a delicious meal with your loved ones in the characterful 17th century pub.
