  • "We very much enjoyed our return to No."

    9. We have stayed in several Greta Side apartments but Oak View is our favourite. We had a short 4 night birthday stay and the bottle of wine was much appreciated on the day! The apartment has been pleasantly updated since our last visit and was spotless. We agree that the king size bed is too big for the bedroom but it is very comfortable. It didn't impact on our break at all. The compact kitchen had everything we needed. The toaster has a very short flex and it is a shame that the heat from it has warped the cupboard door above. I pulled it out from the wall as far as I could to avoid further damage. We ate out each day and can recommend a walk to the Coledale Inn at Braithwaite via Portinscale for lunch and a visit to the wonderful Pheasant Inn at Bassenthwaite, a short walk from the X5 (Workington) bus stop at Dabwath. We hope to return to Oak View on our next visit to Keswick.

  • "A lovely property, in a perfect location."

My husband had a bit of trouble getting in and out of bed, as it is very close to the wall, the bed is too large for the small bedroom, otherwise perfect.

  • "This was my second stay at Oak View and I may well make a third or fourth!"

Ideally situated in the centre of Keswick and handy for all its amenities. One thing to take note of, which I think I mentioned last year, is the front door handle is loose, the bottom screw on the inside will.not tighten up. Otherwise nothing but compliments, and thank you for the fizz!

  • "Location was excellent right on the river and a short stroll into town."

My only gripe was the noise from the extractor fan in the bathroom and the weight of the duvet. The duvet has got to be the heaviest I have ever experienced and I struggled to sleep due to the weight. I could imagine in the winter when the weather is cold it would probably be very welcome but it was a nightmare in the summer. Overall these did not distract from a lovely break.

  • "The flat was very clean and well-equipped, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

Thank you. There was not a lot of space in the bedroom and a tree obstructed my view of the cricket, but there is not a lot you can do about either of these things. We were very grateful for such a pleasant visit.

  • "This was our third holiday at Oak View and we enjoyed it tremendously, as usual."

Probably the best thing about it is the location - so close to the main street yet quiet and secluded. The views from the lounge and bedroom are lovely, and it was also lovely to sit out on the 'balcony' looking down into the town. Free parking was an added bonus. Yes, it is very compact! It's a shame there's not a little more room at the far side of the bed. Nevertheless, the bed was very comfortable and everything we could possibly need was provided. Thank you very much for another lovely stay. We have already booked again for next year! Joan and Ian Gibson

  • "This is a nice apartment, comfortable and well equipped."

It has pleasant views over the river and the park. There are seats outside in which to sit and watch the world go by, weather permitting. The off road parking is a welcome bonus. The apartment is in a great location: it's quiet, but you only have a 5 minute walk to shops & bars. As other reviews have mentioned, the apartment is quite small. The kitchen only has room for one person at a time but this was not a big issue for us. Where the lack of space was an issue was the bedroom. This is described as a 'king-size bedroom' - this is misleading. It is a king-size bed in a small bedroom. There is practically no room at the bed side nearest to the wall. A double bed would fit better, allowing more room at that side. In the bathroom, the extractor fan is quite noisy whenever you switch the light on (there is no window), and the apartment could do with a deep clean as there are cobwebs in the corners and on the ceilings. These little things didn't spoil our time at Oak View, and overall we had a very pleasant stay.

  • "Stayed at no."

9 (top floor to the right). Lovely views from the lounge and bedroom across Fitz Park and the hills beyond. And also of the town from the front landing where there are two chairs and a table. So you can sit and enjoy that morning coffee, or an evening glass of wine (it catches the sun for practically all of the day). All facilities are there, the location is ideal, right in the centre (so handy), and never had a problem with the free parking in all of our three visits we have now spent here. That's a sign of how good it is, so yes I would recommend, a big thumbs up.

  • "Thank you for a lovely, comfortable and relaxing stay."

A very clean and cosy bolt hole with beautiful views over River Greta and Latrigg, directions to the property and key collection were easy and straightforward. The local guides and instructions for appliances were really helpful too. We made use of the electric hearth as the weather was quite nippy, maybe an extra blanket could be handy, but overall it provided the perfect escape right on the doorstep to Keswick. The biscuits and the wine were also a thoughtful touch, thank you - we can't wait to come again!

So we weren't looking for a flat that offered luxurious and lavish accommodation as we were going to be out all day. We wanted something clean, compact, comfortable, well equipped and well located. Flat 9 within the Oak view complex delivered just that. I would point out that the kitchen is small and for one occupant at any time. This wasn't obvious from the photographs on the website. This wasn't an issue for us as our intention was for simple cooking and the kitchen was perfectly adequate and well equipped for that. We had a great time staying there, even with all of the rain!

  • "A lovely place to stay."

Access is not the easiest, with several flights of steps because it is a second floor flat. But we were aware of that because of the accurate description, and the slight disadvantage was worth it, because its situation was perfect. It's living room and bedroom overlooked the River Greta, and leaving our bedroom window slightly open on a night allowed us to be lulled to sleep by the sound of the rippling waters. Beyond the river is the magnificent Fitz Park, reachable via a nearby footbridge. This offers lots of opportunity for watching the world go by, or activities of various sorts if preferred. As does Keswick itself, and the Lake District beyond. We made do to our perfect satisfaction with the beauty on our doorstep. The flat itself was clean, compact and cosy. Also very well equipped. The shopping centre is literally just a couple streets away. Car parking is provided on the doorstep, a huge bonus. Our vehicle stayed put for the week we were there, but others came and went without any apparent difficulty. Another welcome feature was a balcony which was sunny in the afternoons. We loved our stay.

Well appointed and equipped - and with, amazingly, a kitchen knife that actually cuts! It was very relaxing falling asleep to the sound of the river flowing past. All in all a very pleasant, if damp, week. Two minor thing to point out; 1) the front door latch is loose. I tightened it up several times during my stay. Maybe that's why there's a screwdriver in the drawer! 2) there is a crack by the kettle spout which caused a dribble when pouring hot water out.

It is also ideally situated for the centre of Keswick and the surrounding hills. We were a bit surprised at the 4pm check in and 9am checkout. On arrival we found a notice on the bed asking that the bed linen be stripped off and put in the bin bag provided, also towels to be put in a separate bag, the reason being covid. This was all a bit of a rush on the morning we were leaving and having to be out by 9am. Surely this shouldn't still be necessary when all covid restrictions have been lifted. The location of the second-floor apartment is perfect, with views of the Greta and the park from the back, and the town from the front. We enjoyed listening to the river from our open bedroom window, and sitting on the peaceful balcony in the evening, using the thoughtfully provided deckchairs. The apartment was so handy for all the shops, cafes, pubs – and the bus station. The designated parking space was much appreciated, as we left our car there all week and used buses to get to all our walking-destinations. Inside was spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished, and very comfortable. We appreciated the books and maps, the lovely scenes of the Lake District on every wall, and the lovely little touches such as beautiful clocks and ornaments. The Wi-Fi also worked perfectly – once we had worked out how to connect it. There was also plenty of wardrobe and drawer space, and spare bedding should it have been needed. We were impressed by the high quality of the bedlinen. We were amazed at how cleverly everything was contained in such a relatively small space – especially in the kitchen. The small freezing-compartment in the fridge was perfectly adequate for us, and every utensil one could possibly need was provided. It was clear to us that the owners have put a great deal of thought into sharing their love of the Lake District with their guests, and in making the apartment a real ‘home from home’. We can’t thank them enough. We have already booked for next summer!

Firstly we called the call centre as we had no water and they had up to date information that there was a fire in the local area and the fire service had diverted supplies. Obviously this was beyond your control but was great that the information was immediately available. The next day we had a problem with the electricity tripping and no hot water. We went to the local office on Saturday morning and they arranged an electrician to come out that day who sorted the electricty ensured the shower was working and heting its own water and arranged for a plumber to come on Monday to replace the element in the water heater which was causing the issue. We received an Email update and a call on Monday morning to confirm the plumber was coming. The 2nd issue may well have been caused by the initial water issue but was solved as soon as possible and we really appreciate that. Things to break down but we feel that Sykes went above and beyond to put it right as soon as they realistically could. There is an issue with the bathroom door that it appears to have swollen and needs some attention as it is very hard to shut without slamming. This is awkward at night and potentially may annoy the neighbours. We are sure we will return to 9 Oak View, small and compact but everything you need for a holiday in the lakes and brilliant location overlooking the Park.
