  • "We stayed at Rivendell to celebrate my 60th Birthday and it was perfect."

The lodge is so cosy, a real home from home with everything you could wish for a self catering holiday and the view straight over to Latrigg was amazing. Lovely quiet site and a short distance to walk into Keswick, approximately 15 minutes for me and my dog Millie to reach town. We loved it so much I've booked a week for May, looking forward to coming back

  • "Great property."

The second time I've stayed in the last 7 weeks. Very comfortable bed and couches. This time I noticed when the sun was shining in there were some areas which obviously hadnt been dusted for a while. Would have preferred simple on /off bedside lamps rather than ones you have to keep tapping and holding to get a constant white light. Apart from that a great stay once again.

We changed the bedside lights after receiving positive feedback for them in our other cabins. Perhaps there is a knack to them - I find if I just hold down for a second or so the light comes on straight to white? I will pass on your comments to the cleaner. Property Owner

Warm and comfortable in the autumn. Chalet had everything we needed. Thought the Locksafe was much better than keys. Only slight quibble was the blue LED light of the radiator was too bright for the bedroom. Look forward to staying again.

Thank you for your feedback. Not sure that the LED light can be turned off but perhaps we could cover it? Property Owner

The lodge was clean, well looked after and had everything we could ever want and need. The locksafe system was great and as we visited during a heatwave the locking 'window cages' were appreciated and used daily. Only slight criticism was the bed - this was quite uncomfortable and only a double, a king size would have been perfect. Thank you for a great stay!

Glad you had a good stay. We don;t feel that the rooms are big enough for king size bed, but we have just updated our bed and it now has an Eve Deluxe Hybrid spring and memory foam mattress. Been a busy week as we have completely rebuilt all the front decking as well! Property Owner

Glad you had a good time and got out and explored the area. It is a great location - 15 min walk into Keswick, and just by the A66 for routes to other parts of the Northern Lake district. Property Owner

  • "Great location and lovely views from the Lodge."

Accommodation was in good order and we liked the Locksafe system. The only minor disappointment was that there was no external table on the decking - just 4 plastic chairs which meant we couldn't enjoy the outside area as much as we would have wanted.

Thank you for your feedback. We have just replaced the plastic chairs with a cast aluminium table and four chairs. Property Owner

All was as it should be and comfortable. We were particularly impressed with the heating system and are looking to install similar in our home. Thank you

Glad you had a good stay. We would highly recommend the heaters and have installed them in several lodges. You can also control them via an app on your phone so never have to arrive home to a cold house! Sadly the freezer part of the fridge had not been defrosted, for weeks I would say, as that was my first task as we had a small amount of frozen products and needed to use it. The owners emailed to say it was faulty, once I had cleaned it, no problem. A heavier tog duvet would have been nice as it was a bit chilly, and as we found the instructions for the heaters very confusing, but then we are both well into our 80's so no surprise there !! Overall a lovely week and would recommend and would love to return. Would have been very smiley faces but for the above mentioned hiccups.

We have now changed the fridge so hopefully there will be no further issues with the freezer compartment. Property Owner

Outside areas, patio & windows, need cleaning

We regularly stay in our property and look to update to ensure a comfortable stay. The shower is an electric shower, but as there is low water pressure to the lodges it is definitely not a power shower, however it is still working as well as it did when it was new. Will pass on to our cleaner that the window cleaner needs to come more regularly. Property Owner

The lodge had everything you would need to make your break comfortable. The location was ideal, short walk to the local pub (Pheasant) which had great food and also close to shops for supplies. The mountains Latrigg and Skiddaw could be viewed from the lodge which was lovely to view with a glass of wine after a days walking. Would highly recommend a stay at Rivendell Lodge, just wish now we'd have booked for longer.

Could never get warm the lock on.door were put code in is terrible take ages to open.the rest wast bad Brenda Rourke

I’m sorry that you found the beds hard. Everyone has different sleeping preferences. We stay in the lodge frequently ourselves and have no problems sleeping, and we inspect the beds regularly. The mattress is a Tempur mattress. The fire in the lounge is on a thermostat which cannot be adjusted. The lodge heaters are also controlled by thermostats. We have three common settings of 7, 18 and 22 degrees which we find cover most eventualities but you can adjust if required- the instructions are in the lodge booklet. We have looked at the lock details from your stay and can see that you entered code details correctly. The instructions tell you to wait until the bar moves across before trying to open the door. If the door isn’t firmly shut the bar cannot move. Property Owner

  • "Overall an excellent stay."

Some absolutely fantastic views from the veranda. Makes you feel you are in the heart of the Lakes. Cleanliness was very good generally. The only thing that let it down was some food residues left on cooking utensils, cutlery, etc. This meant we felt we needed to run everything through the dishwasher before using, just to be safe. But other than that, the cleanliness was superb. Maybe if the cleaner had been paid for just 15 minutes more, they'd have had the time to sort out this one issue? The cabin had excellent facilities and was nice and warm, even during the cold and blustery storms we had. 15-minute walk into central Keswick, so fairly well situated. Note that facilities on the site were a little lacking. No recycling at all, which is pretty much unacceptable, these days in our opinion. so we ended up bringing all of our plastic, tins, and glass back home with us, as it didn't feel right to just bin it. Also, be aware that no shop or other facilities on site. If you are after a property that is comfortable, warm, well equipped, with great views, you will not be disappointed.

Thank you for your feedback Unfortunately the site refuse is not within the control of any of the lodge owners, however commercial waste does have some sorting after collection. We do include details if the recycling centre in Keswick. Property Owner

It certainly was home from home. Very cosy on cold days with the most amazing views to Lattrigg and Skiddaw. We were sad to leave, but will definately return for another visit. Just a short walk into Keswick, and with The Pheasant pub just down the road, we had a delicious meal there. The only negative point I would make is having to vacate the property at 9:30 am. The property listing actually states 10:am. On that note we decided to pack up and leave the previous afternoon, as didn't want to rush on the morning of departure. But thankyou to the owners, this is a lovely, well equipped property, and our dog had a great time too.

Very good washing machine/dryer and dishwasher and excellent range of dishes, glasses etc. Loved the view from the raised decking area. Main issue was the fairly thin mattress in the main bedroom. As a result, my husband could feel the join in the base through the mattress. We did manage to overcome the problem by using some extra cushioning between the mattress and base but something to be aware of. There was also a bit of dust on the towel rail and on some of the glasses. I did have to wipe down the front of the fridge on arrival, as this had been missed. Overall, a very enjoyable holiday.

Thank you for the review. Whilst delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay, and of course the view, we are sorry that you found the mattress not to your liking. We shall pass this on to the owners and advise that it is checked. Noting a few areas of the lodge had been overlooked by the cleaner, please accept our apologies - It is most unusual for this lodge and we would like to think a one off. That said thank you for letting us know and we shall pass this on to the cleaners. On a more positive note, we are so pleased that you otherwise had a very enjoyable holiday at Rivendell, it’s a great lodge and a fantastic location. We do hope we welcome you again soon.
