  • "We had a lovely stay as a family of 4 here."

Centrally located so ideal for exploring the town. Warm, clean and spacious with all the required facilities. We found the utility space excellent for hiking gear. The only downside was parking the allocated space and access to it as it was too difficult for me to access in a slightly larger than average car meaning the car had to be left on a nearby long term pay and display instead. That said we loved the cottage and would love to go back.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay at The Cat's Bield, we try to make it everything you need after a day out and about - warm and comfortable, with space for wet gear(and dogs!) to dry out before relaxing for the evening. We agree that the car parking space has its limitations, but we hope our suggestions of other options may have helped. As we have said to other guests, having a car parking space in Keswick is a considerable bonus. We look forward to your next visit. Jim, Deb, Safa (our border collie) and the three not-so-wild cats. Situated close to all amenities in Keswick . The Yorktown attic sitting room was a lovely surprise! It is great to have a parking spot , however getting in and out of ideas challenging! But a great cottage we loved our stay.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Cats Bield. We agree that the Climbers' Loft (Yorktown attic room?) is a bit of a gem. The parking spot is considered a bonus in Keswick, particularly so close to the town centre. Many of our guests decide to park up for the week and use local buses and explore on foot. Our guidance for parking, displayed in the kitchen window, has had good feedback from other guests. Thank you for choosing to stay at the Cats Bield, we hope you can come again. The cottage was very well equipped, it was super clean and wonderfully warm and cosy. On arrival we where greeted with wine, biscuits, dog treats, Christmas crackers and lovely Christmas tree all of which where lovely touches that we very much appreciated. The cottage has a great location with simple access to all that Keswick has to offer and the parking space behind the house is a real benefit. We had a great New Years holiday here and will be booking to return again soon as we can. The Cats Bield really is perfect in every way. Lovely cosy living room, huge kitchen diner with the added bonus of a utility room for drying off the dogs and muddy boots. Beds super comfy, fab power shower. The glass shelf above the small sink makes it virtually impossible to wash your face as you can’t lean over the sink. Would be nice if it was moved to the side. And the extraction fan in there was very dirty. But otherwise a great property, fab location and excellent facilities and comfort

Thanks for your feedback - we appreciate your honesty as we try to make our cottage perfect for everyone. We will address the issues you have raised immediately and will add some improvements to our maintenance schedule. We will also investigate the options for repositioning the shelf or replacing it with something that would allow better access to the basin. • "Cat’s Bield is a lovely property."

A lot of care and attention had been given in order to make the stay as comfortable as possible from the lovely welcome gifts to the comfortable beds and bedding to the provision of everything that we needed in the kitchen and keeping everything clean. It had a very home from home feel. It was worth going to look at the parking space, as recommended, before trying to park. We had 2 cars with us and managed to park the larger one but didn’t move it all week. The 2nd had a roof box and wouldn’t fit under the arch at the side in order to get round the back, which might have been a problem if we hadn’t checked it beforehand. It did mean we had to unload from the car park at the Co op. We didn’t have any problem finding street parking a little further out, although we are familiar with Keswick. All in all we had a great holiday and would happily return and stay there again. Thank you.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Cat's Bield. It's lovely to get feedback as we do try our best to make it a relaxing, comfortable place for our guests. We will look at rewording the arrival instructions to make details of the archway clearer, thanks for bringing this to our attention. Property Owner

Several takeaways within 2 mins walk along with quite a few pubs! The cottage was very clean - nice to have 2 bathrooms. Slight downside - can be busy as you are on the main road into town. Also the parking space is fairly tight (behind the cottage) we have an XC40 which was ok - not a problem for us as we leave the car - walk or catch the bus!

Thanks for your feedback, we are glad you liked our cottage. The central location is great as you say, as you can leave the car and walk or catch the bus, and the delights of Keswick are right on the doorstep. We appreciate that the car parking space can be a little awkward but we see it as a bonus to be able to park free of charge in central Keswick. Not aloud to leave the dogs unattended at any point even to go straight over the road to the shop for 2mins without receiving complaints, almost as if we were being watched. Car parking was not as described, need to be confident manoeuvring your car or the parking situation doesn’t work to well specially when other are staying in the neighbouring cottages. Nice views from the cottage and conveniently placed with access to many shops, restaurants and walks.

Dear Mr Hollands Thankyou for your feedback – it helps us guide what we do. We like to go the extra for our four-legged guests (it’s their holiday too!), hence the made up beds, doggy-towels and treats at no extra charge. The shared yard, which is common to houses in this part of Cumbria, is now used primarily for parking. This is why we recommend the grass area by the Rawnsley Centre - just across the road and half a minute away. It is ideal for a final stretch of paws and a check of “wee-mails” before bed. Not living at or near to The Cat’s Bield, we can only recommend that pets are not left alone. Having been involved with training search dogs and their handlers, we appreciate that dogs left alone in a new place can get stressed. This stress can manifest as barking, which can disturb neighbours in surrounding holiday rentals, or frustration, which can be taken out on fittings and furnishings and leads to additional charges. We have looked at the entries for parking on our Lakelovers listing and have made some tweaks to avoid misunderstandings in the future. To clarify, we have a private, off-street parking space in the shared parking yard – no others are allowed to use it. With on-street parking increasingly difficult to find in Keswick, we consider ourselves fortunate to have a space. We recommend reverse parallel parking into the space and there is usually plenty of room to do this manoeuvre. Thank you for commenting on The Cat’s Bield's convenient location to all that Keswick has to offer. We hope the “niggles” you encountered did not tarnish your stay and that you will visit our lovely town again soon All the best Deb,Jim, Safa and Wrags our Wildcat. Property Owner

We found the house had everything we wanted and needed inc a dog bed, treats, milk and a bottle of wine. The shower is amazing in the en suite, the bed comfy and the living room relaxing and the kitchen all you need and a relaxing place. The living room has a gas fire which was nice. We had a really relaxing time and enjoyed the house as did the dog. I think new holiday makers would benefit from a diagram of the parking including instructions before arriving, the current ones are vague which causes confusion and Coop car park is usually full post check in time. The information LL supplied all stated 10am check out (as other companies have reverted back to the original times) but inside had a covid note stating 9am which lead to us packing whilst the owners arrived. The traffic noise from the main road is quite bad, the deliveries across the road at Coop and load cars going past all night. Tbh we didn't realise when booking the house directly on the main road. As a two bed house you might struggle if more than 1 car, the overnight parking at coop doesn't kick in until 9pm and the rugby club is not very secure for over night use. I would say the house could do with a Keswick parking permit either for an extra car or drivers who are not confident on getting into tight spaces or indeed bigger cars. Overall a very good house, everything you need and more and very dog friendly

Dear Mr Griffiths Thank you for the feedback, so glad that you enjoyed the small touches that we hope made the Cat's Bield a welcoming and cosy retreat for all who stay, including four-legged guests. We have been in touch with Lakelovers regarding the check-in/check-out times that were put in place during the early stages of the C-19 "end of lockdown".  Based on their input we are returning to the pre-Covid check-in and checkout timings. We still intend to continue with our enhanced cleaning and sanitising regime however. One of the consequences of having such a central location close to Keswick's amenities is the proximity of the street.  Despite this, previous guests have commented on how quiet they have found the house.  We will however look at what can be done to improve both thermal and acoustic insulation as part of our annual maintenance period. Many guests find it a bonus to find somewhere in Keswick with any off street parking, and as you suggest we will update the arrival instructions with a clear diagram of how to approach it. With only the one parking place we are always open to suggestions to add to our list for parking for second cars. To this end we will look into the feasibility and logistics of acquiring an Allerdale Borough Council parking permit. Stay safe and thanks once once again for staying at The Cat's Bield. Everything was provided, biscuits, coffee, milk, even hand wash and gel, strangely no hairdryer but it is a well appointed cottage. Unfortunately the outside space was hugely disappointing, it is a communal area for car parking and bins. Dog needs to be on a lead from the second the back door is open. The parking was challenging, and as our neighbour had an estate car even more so.

Dear Mrs Thomson We are glad you enjoyed our cottage. We try our best to make sure that our guests have everything they need to get their holiday off to a good start and we especially try to make it dog friendly. Currently we are following COVID guidelines with regard to removing items such as books, maps and indeed the hairdryer.  Hopefully these will return soon. The outside area is as you say, just an area for parking and bins.  Some years ago the the external space in the yard was traded for the extension which houses the utility room on the ground floor(dishwasher, washing machine, place to store outdoorsie kit) and main bathroom on the first floor. We advise guests to reverse parallel into the parking space and advise liaising with guests next door (it is a shared parking area).  Currently we are looking at giving suggestions for alternative parking options close by.  We aim to make our descriptions of The Cat's Bield on the website as accurate as possible. We think having a private parking space in Keswick is a bonus, even though a little bit of a challenge. The length of the parking space we have in the yard is determined by the width of the Cat's Bield which, at 5.1 metres, is longer than the guidelines issued by The Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (4.8 metres).  If the guests next door park with consideration (they usually do) there normally is a good 1 metre for parallel parking manoeuvring.  With parking spaces in Keswick at a premium these days, we consider ourselves fortunate to be able to offer off-road parking for a medium sized car.  We hope that the issue you had did not tarnish too much your visit to either The Cat's Bield or our lovely town of Keswick.  Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our stay, its hard thinking of where to go and worries about the pandemic are certainly on our minds when travelling."

We found the accommodation reassuringly clean and booking was super easy. Keswick as a town have good control lots of hand sanitiser in the shops and restaurants, staff very reassuring and clear when explaining covid rules and many eateries had outdoor covered tables, even the market had a one way system and so we as tourists felt safe and that we were keeping the locals safe. Would visit again and book with lake lovers plenty of outdoor activities and fresh air so easy to feel safe and comfortable in these very uncertain times. If you're debating whether to book with the lake lovers do not..just book you won't regret it.

  • ". We loved The Cats Bield - beautiful cottage in a fabulously central position. Making access to all of Keswick, really easy"

. The only downside was that we took our dog on his first holiday but the yard wasn’t enclosed so we had to keep him on a lead each time he needed to go out. It would have been good to have known this on the listing. The parking is tight but very secure with the ability to get close to the back door to unpack.

Dear Mrs Yates Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback. Unfortunately the yards boundaries are out of our control and we only have a right of parking and access. We advise guests to exercise their dogs in the wide grassed area a short walk away next to Rawnsley Centre, though we appreciate that this isn't enclosed either. We are looking at the wording of the listing to reflect the yards primary use these days, that of parking. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Cats Bield soon. Yours sincerely Jim, Deb, Safa and Wrags (our very own Wild Cat) Property Owner
