Was well equipped & cleaning kitchen & bathroom stuff provided. Washing machine & dryer in shed. Owner friendly & checked if we needed anything. Beach path access nearby. Turn right outside cottage and first right at corner. Bigger entrance across from big grassy area 5 min walk further along. These beach areas had less rocks than along at lighthouse. . Lovely well maintained enclosed garden & dog safe. Enjoyed Sunday roast meal along with dat Paul jones hotel. Went to couple parks with dog in Dumfries.

  • "We had a lovely stay here at Mardan, property was very quiet and very clean, had everything we needed for our stay."

The beds were comfortable and we slept well. The beach was a 2 minute walk away, which our dog loved. Its based next to a Parkdean caravan park, so there is a well stocked shop a couple of minutes away also. The garden was fully enclosed, which pleased us as sometimes our dog likes to take herself for a wander, but she didnt/couldnt get out. Washing machine and tumble dryer also provided in the shed outside. Very large fridge and freezer so we only had to do one food shop whilst away as these held everything for a weeks stay. Its about half hour drive from Dumfries and 1 hour from Moffat. Also a golf club a few minutes away. In all we had a lovely stay and the owner introduced herself and was lovely also. Thankyou.

The bungalow is ideally placed close to the beach, the village pub and the chippy. Everything was clean and tidy when we arrived and the enclosed garden was perfect for our Terrier. We had beautiful weather (always a bonus) and can thoroughly recommend this bungalow. The friendly owner even popped by to check everything was ok. Fantastic.

We went off season so the area was quiet which was what we were after. The garden was fully enclosed which was ideal for our wee terrier and he just loved curling up in front of the log fire in the evening. We even got to sit outside in the garden one day when the weather was kind to us. The beach was literally a two minute walk away. There is a small shop, pub where you can take dogs and a fish and chip shop. A seaside resort but with the essentials for a holiday. Thank you for a lovely break away and we would highly recommend this cottage to other people.

Stayed for 3 nights and had a very relaxing break. Weather lovely for time of year. Only thing missing was a little welcome pack which we have had in al other properties but this could be due to the covid restrictions Only little think that I feel would improve the property would be a paved area in the garden for the chairs. We sat out but found that the chairs started to sink slightly due to ground being a little uneven. Not a big problem though Appreciated owner checking in on day or arrival to check all ok Dog friendly and milo loved his break too Will be happy to return

  • "The cottage was really lovely - cosy and with fresh decor and ample space."

It was well equipped, clean and comfortable. One drawback for us was that at nightfall the road into/out to the cottage was pitch black with no outside lighting so remember to take a torch - this wouldn't be an issue at other times of the year though. The cottage was closer to the caravan site than we expected but at this time of year it was very quiet. Unfortunately for us, the weather was terrible but we didn't let it spoil our break. Kate the owner came to check with us that everything was OK and that was a nice touch. We thoroughly enjoyed our break at Mardan.

  • "Overall this was a lovely wee cottage."

The garden was Great for my grandson and the dog (no escape routes) we went for a quiet break in January and nothing was open apart from the pub which is to be expected. You can get a delivery from tesco etc from dumfries which is very handy. Kate the owner is very nice and on hand if you need anything. My son and daughter in law came down for a couple of days and said they would love it in summer when everything is open. It's next to a large caravan park and it's open to non resident so it's great for a family holiday. Beach is 2mins walk and plenty things around for everyone, ie, history walking and of course loads for the kids.

  • "Mardan is a lovely cottage in a beautiful setting, close to the beach in Southerness."

Ours was an autumn/winter stay (December) so Southerness was very quiet and peaceful, which we really liked. Mardan was well equipped, warm and cosy, and close to the beach, which was fantastic from a walking and wildlife perspective. Kate, the owner, was very helpful to us too; she gave us local holiday and nearest supermarket information and ensured we had plenty of wood for the lounge stove all week at no extra cost which was really nice of her. We found Dumfries and Galloway enjoyable too from the big and beautiful beach at Southerness to the villages and towns like Rockcliffe, Kippford and Kirkcudbright, which we found to be really enjoyable and within easy driving distance of Southerness. We have no hesitation in highly recommending Mardan and should we come to Southerness again we would definitely try to book.

Thank you so much for your positive feedback on our cottage, and glad you enjoyed your stay, look forward to seeing you again. Property Owner

Southerness is a small coastal village established in the late 18th century, which looks out over the Solway Firth, and forms part of the Colvend coast, one of the finest stretches of coastline on the 'Scottish Riviera'.
