  • "We had a wonderful holiday and thoroughly enjoyed the property."

    The mountain views were stunning, the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was excellent. That said, our experience would have been even more positive had there been a more generous provision of basic essentials such as washing tablets, washing-up liquid, and toilet paper. The limited supplies felt somewhat restrictive. We also found the process of attempting to reschedule our holiday through the company to be frustrating, as it was very difficult to speak directly with someone. However, once I was able to connect via WhatsApp, the representative was extremely helpful. Finally, we felt that the company’s communications placed considerable emphasis on leaving the property in a clean condition—which we fully respect and would naturally do—rather than focusing on ensuring guests have the best possible holiday experience.

    We are very pleased that you enjoyed the cottage and had a lovely stay and thank you for such a good review it is really appreciated. We’re sorry you felt there could have been more supplies left but the cottage is self catering and the supplies we do leave are merely meant to be a starter pack consisting of essentials to help guests when they first arrive. Unfortunately while we do supply some dishwasher tablets we don’t supply clothes washing tablets due to potential allergies and leave this up to our guests to provide. We’re also sorry to hear about the issues you had rescheduling with Sykes and will flag this with them as this should be a straight forward process.   • "We had a gorgeous stay at Squirrel Cottage, the weather was awful but from the minute we walked in Squirrel Cottage was cosy, warm, clean and comfortable."

    Everything you could need is provided, the location is perfect, only a few minutes from Keswick and surrounded by beautiful views. We love this area and will most definitely be back to Squirrel Cottage.

  • "The cottage is well positioned far enough to be quite and off the beaten track, but within a short drive of Keswick and sorrounding places to walk or cycle."

    A short walk to the Gallery and cafe is recommended, where you find some stunning paintings of the locality and good refeshments. The view of Skidaw from the window was amazing, the entrance is a bit tight and needs care both entering and exiting the property. Any one booking this property will be satisfied with the location, the local bus stops just outside.

  • "There is only one word required for this review, "Perfect"."

    However, it is only fair to say more. The cottage is very well equipped for a comfortable stay. Modern, yet traditional. The location is perfect for all that the Lake District has to offer. The views of the Lake District hills from the windows of the cottage inspires one to get out and walk, no matter what the weather. There is even a bus stop across the road linking one to the north and south of the National Park. Thank you for a memorable week

  • "Lovely property in a ideal location to explore the northern fells, Keswick and further afield."

    Bus stop just outside the cottage to either explore Cockermouth the coast or Keswick onto penrith etc, if you want to give the car a rest. Unfortunately thornthwaite only as a gallery/ cafe for pubs Braithwaite is only a mile away Unfortunately on arrival we found the property had not been property cleaned the ground floor needed to be swept and crumbs were all over the table and under the mats the key safe was actually still set to the door code! We contacted signature housekeeping who offered to send someone out to re clean the property but we'd done it already. We also reported a problem with the tv remote which amazon delivered a replacement the following day. Squirrel cottage is one of the best equipped cottages we've stayed with a very comfortable bed and great bathroom. It's lovely to sit infront of a roaring woodstove after a days exploring and easy parking compared to other cottages in the area. Only criticism would be that there wasn't much cleaning products provided and the washer was a bit noisy when spinning. We would not hesitate booking Squirrel cottage in the future

  • "Very nice welcoming cottage."

    Well laid out accommodation. Fabulous views and I was lucky with the sunshine. Bus stop at the door if you needed it. Regular service to Keswick. Bedroom and bathroom very comfortable. Would like to return soon.

  • "The holiday property was of a high quality and very clean, parking spaces were ample."

    Only downside is the fact that if you take a dog with you there is no safe space to let them out unattended which isn’t a big problem really just after be careful. I would use the cottage again and still take my dog. Only complaint I have is the fact that it’s almost impossible to talk to an agent from Skescottages about any issues prior to travelling to your destination. But other than that, everything else was pretty good.

  • "The small but quaint cottage was perfect for us and our dog."

    We booked the cottage for a mini moon following our wedding, and had a really lovely stay. The location was great for getting to places like Buttermere, Ullswater and more. We also climbed Skiddaw which we could see from the window. We'd definitely book again

  • "Had a great time at squirrel cottage."

    Location was perfect and views were incredible. The cottage was equipped with everything you could possibly need and was immaculate on arriving. Only issue we had was when we went to light the log burner and realised there was a bird trapped in flue, managed to get it out and free it but be aware to check before lighting the fire, left a note suggesting the owners check the top of chimney to make sure there is a grate to stop birds getting in. Doesn’t distract how much we enjoyed our time there. Will definitely recommend and return

Sitting at the foot of the Whinlatter and Thornthwaite Forest and between the magnificent northern lakes of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite, is the village of Thornthwaite. Thornthwaite boasts a contemporary art gallery exhibiting many local artists and its teashop and the Church of Thornthwaite St.Mary with its origins dating back to 1240 The beautiful Comb Beck runs alongside the village into the nearby lake. Thornthwaite affords fantastic views towards Skiddaw and access to both leisurely strolls and challenging fell walks from the doorstep. The beautiful Newlands Valley is close by and is great to walk or cycle, especially if you like to stumble across pubs and tea shops and its ‘buggy friendly’! The whole of the National Park is accessible from Thornthwaite but close by are Keswick, Braithwaite and attractions like Derwentwater for its sailing and kayaking, The Whinlatter Visitors Centre with its ‘Go Ape’, mountain biking and children’s play area, Mire house, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the lake and Armathwaite Hall for luxury afternoon teas.
