• "Our family had a great stay in April with the sun shining all the week."

  We really enjoyed the welcome basket plus lovely local flowers. The owner was very responsive using Whats App when we asked for the heating to be increased for the comfort for my father who feels the cold easily. Everything is super high-quality (e.g. The White Company toiletries, towels and bedding) and that was much appreciated. The star of the show is undoubtedly the magnificent views which can be seen from all bedrooms and all the upstairs rooms as well. That alone is definitely worth making a booking for Bank Barn. A trip in April is particularly good with stunning tulips and the gambolling lambs just down the hill. Bank Barn location makes it perfect for hikers walkers as just off the Ullswater Way. A couple of the highlights of our stay was the Sunday lunch at the Horse and Farrier in Dacre, which needs to be pre-booked plus attending the local Dalemain Annual Marmalade festival. Bank Barn is in a great location for Ullswater as well to nip across to Keswick as well as Penrith. Overall, this is a extremely well equipped cottage with a great kitchen. We enjoyed the fact it was a proper full fridge so we could see everything at a glance and good pantry space. We would not hesitate to return again in the future.

I love the fact they dip the sheep an orange colour, for the event. The marmalades are fabulous. Last year's winner was Pear and Yuzu which is a firm favourite with me. • "We recently had our second stay at Bank Barn Wreay and, just like last time, loved every minute of our stay."

  We are annual returners to the Lakes and have stayed at numerous cottages in different parts of the Lakes and this one is hard to beat. The sheer comfort of the place cannot be properly conveyed but the beds, ensuites, kitchen, sofas and equipment are all luxurious but it is the comfort of the atmosphere that makes it a perfect holiday location - it is warm, homely, welcoming and immediately relaxing. All photos are accurate, including the wonderful views across Ullswater. There are nearby walks and pubs with great food as welll as shops at Glenridding. Wendy, the owner and host, ensures everything is perfect for your arrival - we'll be back again!

• "We have recently returned from a week long holiday to Bank Barn as a family of four with two young children and will absolutely return."

  From the moment we arrived we were so impressed, the space is wonderful and has been so carefully thought through. It’s a very peaceful location and I spent endless hours sat at the window seats in awe of the view, which seemed to change every minute with the change in light. Even on wet days it’s absolutely stunning. The kitchen is very well equipped, everything has been thought of and we absolutely loved returning to a traditional kitchen setting. Across the rest of the house, again, everything had been thought of and there are some lovely toiletries. The garden was perfect for the children to play and the animals in the field at the bottom of the garden were an added bonus. Bank Barn is in a wonderful location for many lovely walks around Ullswater, but also only a short drive away from Keswick and an easy drive to the central and southern lakes. It’s a few weeks since we returned from our stay at Bank Barn and the children are still talking about it. We stay in The Lake District a few times each year and this is by far the best house we have stayed in, the photos don’t do it justice, it’s a very special place. Finally, it’s worth noting that the owner was super helpful, both before arrival and during the stay.

• "We have just returned from the most amazing week away at Bank Barn and can confidently say this is the best house we have ever stayed in."

  Bank Barn is clearly a much loved home, and this shows from the moment you arrive. The house is just stunning, with every creature comfort you could want. The bedrooms are so cosy and comfortable (the beds are amazing) and loved the little touches such as an electric blanket! Bathrooms have both baths and separate showers which is great and we appreciated a good selection of towels and face cloths. It’s an upside down house, so bedrooms on the ground floor and the living space is upstairs - and that is most welcome so you can enjoy THAT VIEW, which is absolutely spectacular - you can quite happily whittle the hours away sitting in the snuggly window seats and looking out at the rolling fields down to the lake and the stunning hilly backdrop. No photo could ever do it justice! The living room has an open fire, and plenty of logs, and there is also a separate snug space/room which would be great for bigger groups so you have different spaces. Beautiful big dining room - very grand - and the kitchen has everything you need. Aga, over, hob, microwave, an extensive selection of crockery, cutlery and glasses and a multitude of other pieces of kitchen equipment. We enjoyed a couple of cosy evenings eating dinner in there, which had even had festive touches added, in addition to various festive touches all around the rest of the house. Wendy, whose home this is, is absolutely amazing! I have never felt so welcomed and well looked after. She is amazingly responsive and left some lovely personal touches for us, including a bottle of fizz as we were celebrating our anniversary. It almost feels as though your friend has kindly lent you their home! The area is so beautiful, fabulous walks, you get that in the middle of nowhere blissful quiet, but there’s a pub about a 10 min walk away and both Penrith and Keswick are about a 20 min drive, not to mention some of the smaller beautiful villages which are close by. We could have stayed indefinitely, but real life means you need to go home! However, we will most definitely return next year and we recommend Bank Barn to everyone (although maybe I shouldn’t incase we can’t book it!!). Hands down the best place we’ve ever stayed (and we’ve travelled)

• "We had a marvellous stay."

  The accommodation was 5 star in every way from its location, the stunning views, the immaculate set up and a kitchen that had everything you could possibly need. • "We are visitors to the Lakes annually and have used Lakelovers for years but this was our first stay at Bank Barn Wreay."

  The photos are all accurate but they fail to convey the immense sense of warmth and homeliness which often escapes larger properties. It has been charmingly converted from a cow barn and the size and comfort of all the rooms can't be over emphasised (sofas and beds all very, very comfortable) and yet it is definitely a home: warm, welcoming as well as spacious. The views are magnificent, you can see a whole stretch of Ullswater through every front facing window not just a glimpse through one. Glenridding provides good choices for basic food fare and it's a short drive to the A66 to get to Keswick and Derwent water or, in the other direction, a beautiful drive along Ullswater and over the Kirkstone pass to get to Grasmere, Ambleside and Windermere, not to mention all the walks available around Ullswater itself! What more can you possibly wish for? We'll definitely be going back!

  With far reaching views across farmland to Ullswater and the hills beyond it was a pleasure to sit and watch the ever changing scenery. We had a wonderful stay in a peaceful, relaxing and obviously much loved home.

• "I cannot recommend Bank Barn enough - it is simply phenomenal."

  It is the most welcoming home, with breath-taking views & amazing interiors, as well as having literally everything you could think of! We were all saying how well equipped it was, from the luxuriously comfortable beds & bedding, to the softest towels (& face cloths, a personal favourite of mine!) and a kitchen that has every bit of equipment you could think of. As someone who works in hospitality management, I appreciate the dedication you have to Bank Barn & can feel that it isn't a house, it is a very much loved home. The communication that we had through the host Wendy was fantastic, so very thorough, polite & had all the answers to any questions. My mother has severe asthma, when I mentioned this to Wendy, she graciously removed the reed diffusers as they could affect my mother, this simple notion was so caring & it really meant a lot. I should also note, that the house was spotlessly clean, the fire ready to be lit (unfortunately, in a way, we didn't light it as it was so warm!) and a really decent amount of logs to be used. The welcome pack was gorgeous, with fresh bread, eggs & a local Lakes magazine. So very thoughtful. I was honoured to spend my 40th birthday here, with my closest family, and felt so welcomed by you Wendy. It was a weekend I will never forget, and look forward to returning. Thank you for allowing us into your home.

• "It is the most beautiful house I have ever stayed."

  This was the anniversary of joining our medical school in 1982. The house is a spectacular setting "Gods Own Land" - we created lovely memories for life. The house had all the facilities and I can see that each corner had been decorated with care. It had a good mix of luxury and cosiness. Wendy hats off to your for creating a wonderful atmosphere.

• "We had an absolutely wonderful week."

  The sun was shining for us and I can’t think of a better location! We walked in the fells, went paddle boarding and swimming in lakes and a tarn, we even managed to fit in a spa afternoon. We loved Bank Barn, the perfect base, a beautiful home and it was immaculately presented, with everything we needed for our stay. Book it now! Highly recommend.

• "Our stay at Bank Barn was magical."

  It is a beautiful property that is obviously well loved by the owners. The bedrooms and bathrooms are luxurious and the kitchen is fantastically well equipped. The owner adds a lovely personal through her messages and app and the team that help guests and clean are all lovely and very responsive if you need them. The views are spectacular. We were really spoilt staying at Bank Barn and were very sad to leave at the end of our two weeks. It is, quite simply, the best property we have ever stayed in.

• "This is an exceptional holiday home - Wendy has generously and carefully created a place to relax and enjoy the spectacular Lake District scenery with Ullswater easily visible and accessible."

  The Barn is really well equipped and exceptionally clean - and the welcome essentials were much appreciated! It was great to have space for six adults to enjoy family time together, as well time reading or relaxing in quiet spots around the house and garden. Nearby pubs, restaurants, walks, mountains, ice cream and lake made for a perfect week! The beds are comfortable, the garden is beautiful, and the birdsong is delightful. You feel a million miles away from the stresses of everyday life! We hope to come again one day. Many thanks!

• "We had a fantastic stay over the Bank Holiday weekend."

  The location is amazing, beautiful views from the barn and the garden. The barn is huge and very impressive, very well thought out, comfortable beds and beautifully styled. The kitchen is extremely well stocked with any appliances you could possibly need and is so cosy with the Aga on. There is a lovely pub about 10 mins walk down the hill where we had an enormous Sunday Roast This is one of the best places we’ve stayed in over many years of self catering in the UK
