  • "Super property."

Have stayed here 7 times now!! Small concerns though. Hoover did not work well when used just before we left and it smelt of wet dog!! In the upstairs big bedroom king size bed never has a bottom sheet that tucks in the top properly. Bedside tables far too big so cleaners must struggle to make the bed. Frying pans apart from one, all old and have lost their non stick finish. Are booking it for next year!!!! X

  • "Loved the holiday and loved the Old Police House for location, size and stunning views."

Only two points to make it perfect. The floor outside the main bathroom needs fixing, the first time I stepped on it, I thought that I would go through the ceiling. Secondly, the courtesy light on the landing needs adjusting, five minutes is too long; 30 seconds would be sufficient.

  • "Beautiful house in a beautiful location."

It was comfortable with all the amenities you need. The only niggles were that there is only one bin for the property and when we arrived it was three quarters full so we were having to take the rubbish elsewhere until bin collection day which was towards the end of the holiday. The property would benefit from the downstairs lounge being upgraded, it's quite worn and not in keeping with the rest of the property.

  • "The old police house was brilliant; perfectly situated in Grasmere."

It was exactly as described on the web site, and we would certainly think about booking it again. We did Silver Howe, Alcock tarn, Helm & Calf Crag and Easedale tarn all from the front door. A few things: 1. The mattresses are all very soft; not a problem but if you are prone to sciatica/bad back just be aware. 2. The front garden wall is quite low (which is great for the views), but the property does get lots a admiring looks from the many walkers passing by. 3. You should visit Sam Reads book shop, possibly the best independent book shop in the lakes. 4. Do not believe the BBC weather forecast; it said there would be a lot of rain the week we were there but, during the day, it hardly rained.

The house was immaculate and great stay. Feedback: *Please provide stairgate for children as this is a family setup and would help on stairs. *The automatic light in the hallway upstairs - how can this be switched off as does potentially wake up sleepers. *Heating was very hot - needs turning down at points but locked?

Beautiful views from the picture windows. Warm throughout. The position was quiet up a road off the main square. All in all a perfect place to spend a week. I had hoped to see red squirrels around Grasmere but as always they proved to be elusive!

We always love staying there. As we get older, we spend more time in the house, as our walks get shorter. But sitting in the upstairs lounge looking out at the fells is very satisfying. Thank you.

  • "A lovely house in a great position."

The beds were very comfortable & nice to have a couple of rooms to relax in although the top room with the great view was the most popular. When we arrived (22nd December) we found the bin to be almost half full so had to leave some boxes & Christmas bags in the kitchen (as raining outside) for the cleaner to dispose of as we couldn’t get them in the cars to take home. Also, the ceiling light in between the two single bedrooms which automatically comes on was far too bright if visiting the bathroom in the night. Maybe one in the socket as in other areas would be better & not so bright. We would definitely stay there again if we were having another family break. Thank you for providing such a lovely home to stay in.

Thank you for taking the trouble to leave us some feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed your time at the house, and apologise for the bin being half full. We will look into any options to encourage clients to remove as much rubbish as possible prior to the bin being emptied on Thursday. The light that comes on at night is a requirement to meet fire regulations, but we will explore the possibility of making it a less bright light. Thank you again for booking The Old Police House. • "We had the most fabulous holiday at The Old Police House, thank you for allowing us to experience your beautiful home amid breath-taking scenery."

We arrived on Friday 1st December to a frosty landscape. We were overjoyed to wake up on Saturday morning to a veritable Winter Wonderland - perfect as it was my 40th birthday celebration! We felt we were on the set of "The Holiday'! The heavy snow continued all day and we had to abandon plans to drive for lunch to Ambleside, but never mind, as we were accommodated at The Wordsworth Hotel in the village, which was delightful. The evening was spent making snowmen in your front garden, feeding the birds and having lots of fun! We loved the location of the house, such a short, easy stroll to a fantastic selection of cafes, pubs, art galleries, shops, co-op. The toy shop in the village has to be the best toy shop we have been in, our children loved it! We also enjoyed exploring the wider area by car (once the snow had melted), some fantastic countryside. Now to the house: we appreciate the high quality of the build and décor. We have had everything we have needed, from crisp white bedding and fluffy towels to a superbly equipped kitchen, bathrooms etc. We have been warm and found the downstairs lounge particularly cosy. Great selection of DVD's, books, games. The children in our party (13, 5 and 2 years) have loved being here. The eight of us have had plenty of room to spread out over the different lounges. The house was extremely clean and smelt clean. We met your cleaner, she is lovely and an asset to your team. We appreciated that all furniture well maintained and comfy. To have made the stay even better, we would have liked a dining table that seated all 8 of us in the party, so that we could have shared meals together. Two did sit at the breakfast bar, but an 8 seater dining table would be welcomed. Some hooks in bathrooms to hang up dressing gowns, clothes etc would have been helpful and a welcome pack (milk, few teabags, biscuits etc.) would be a nice touch for guests. Thank you once again, Graham and Caroline for a fabulous stay. We will definitely recommend and hope to return in the future :)

Thank you for your feedback, it is always welcome. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and all that the house offers. The dining table is designed for 8 people, and there are 8 chairs, although these sometimes get removed from the dining area to the rest of the house. We will try and ensure that the chairs are returned to their correct location if they are moved. We hope you will return to The Old Police House soon. Property Owner

Fabulous location for all that Grasmere has to offer. Only niggle ( a very small one) is lack of privacy in front garden. I would raise the fence height by 2 feet, either by fence or shrubbery, as there is no privacy when sitting outside and the lane in front of the garden has many walkers using it. And because it is such a beautiful house, everyone cannot help but look at it!

Only problem was the cleanliness issues. The fridge drawer full of crumbs. Freezer was the same. Downstairs bathroom had lots of mould around shower bottom and bath taps. It could have been easily washed off. Under the furniture in Downstairs bedroom there was sweet wrappers. In the upstairs double there was a dirty tissue behind bedside drawers. Nothing that spoilt the holiday but things you'd not expect or want to find in your holiday home.

  • "This is a beautiful property in a beautiful and convenient location."

Having uninterrupted views to Silver Howe lifted all our spirits. So many possibilities to walk from the house was great - a few minutes on the flat to the village for those with mobility problems and many possibilities to hills and tarns for those who wanted to explore further to hike and wild swim. The layout of the house is great with everything we needed and ground floor space for my elderly Mum. The kitchen is very well equipped. We filled the bird feeders and enjoyed watching the birds, sat on the patio or opened the upstairs living room trifold doors and watched and waved to the passers-by. Two things that would have made it even better- we washed pretty much everything in the kitchen before use as it hadn’t been cleaned properly in the dishwasher and so had food residue on it - can’t believe people put stuff away like this but maybe the cleaners need to check this? Put instructions on the dishwasher about rinsing food, leaving gaps between things, not blocking the rotating arm? - took us a couple of washes to get a wash where everything was clean and didn’t need re washing by hand. We found the thermostats set too high and though they are easy to reset, the timings meant getting up after going to bed to reset them and waking up in the morning overheated and resetting them. Consider some adjustment to the programmes and just overall lower temperatures set to avoid this. The house is really well insulated so not sure why the temperatures need to be set so high.

Thank you for your kind feedback. It is lovely to hear that you enjoyed your stay, and the views. We take all comments on board. We hope to welcome you back. Property Owner

The property has been well designed with great views and pleasant evening sun. The only issue we had is around the comfort of the single beds in both of the twin rooms. We would love to rebook for next near BUT need some assurances that they single beds in the twin rooms and need mattress toppers (which are NOT expensive) as our teenage daughters could feel the springs from the mattresses. One of our daughters complained of sleeping badly each night which I find unacceptable at this price bracket quite frankly. Everything else felt like a home-from-home so ideal! PLEASE FIX SINGLE BEDS!!

Thank you for the feedback. We are sorry that the single beds were uncomfortable. We have four new beds on order to be delivered in early November. We do hope that this will encourage you to book The Old Police House again. Property Owner

Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District.
